I can't understand why you were criticized for this comment. MAAR's name combines like 4 very common Muslim names. So yes, it is surprising that he attends Catholic Central because he's probably Muslim. There was nothing xenophobic about what you said ("doesn't matter though"). It was just an observation, and you have nothing to apologize for.
For other posters; calm down.
1. "Bc of his name!?!" - Are you not aware that Muhammad, Ali, Abdur, and Rahkman are very common names for individuals who practice Islam? Where did you grow up? Muhammad Ali = Muslim, Shareef Abdur-Raheem = Muslim. I could keep going...
2. "Bc everyone who goes to Catholic Central goes into priesthood?" - Way to use a wild superlative. That is a weak analogy, and an ad populum fallacy. While a small percentage of CC students go into priesthood, I'm willing to bet that an overwelming proportion are at least Christian. There are Islamic academies too. This isn't discriminatory.
3. "Worst post you've made" - Seemed perfectly reasonable to me. He didn't insult anybody, or make any religious comments.
In conclusion, welcome to the team MAAR. Doesn't matter what his religion is. But it is uncommon for a (presumably) Muslim student to play for Catholic Central and I also agree that it's interesting.
Nothing like criticizing people for being "hypersensitive" and then writing an essay over those being "hypersensitive."

I don't know about all of that. It's very common for non-Catholics to go to Catholic schools because they're usually better more academically and athletically than the other options. My wife went to Catholic high school, and she graduated with plenty of Jews, Muslims and non-religious people, among others.
So yeah, I think it's odd to say you're surprised he went to a Catholic high school because he has a Muslim name. Was it odd that Jordan Morgan or Blake Countess went to Catholic schools? As black americans, it's very unlikely that they're Catholic.

then that is exactly what I like about the site. UMHoops typically puts on clips that show a truer picture of a player--rather than just the good stuff. This approach showed early on why Burke was likely to be better than Brundidge. And why I am skeptical about Doyle.
Interesting pickup - I think with GR3 and Nik gone his age became an asset versus what Beilein normally does and pick up guys who are younger then their class. This is a lot like Spike actually - with Burke gone he wanted some experience so he went older rather than younger with a late signing. Maybe that limits upside some but it usually means he can contribute right away which is what next year's squad will need at the 2/3.

I don't know if this is thread-worthy. He wasn't one of our top prospects and most felt he was going to MSU anyway. He's a solid prospect, but not a big recruit to where this would make waves. He's a high 3-star who committed to MSU.
The interesting thing for me is what that says about Jayru Campbell. There was lots of speculation that he wouldn't stick in MSU's class, and now they picked up another QB, so he's probably out.
From what I read kid was very high on UCLA but the Rosen announcement took his spot. He fits the Dantonio model with Cook - good arm, decent mobility. Won't be playing until his senior year or junior year as the second coming (Terry) is ahead of him.

Why isn't Mykhailiuk coming? It's us, UVA, KU and SMU and the team with an open scholly gets him.
And Harris takes up a spot in 2014 and sit out but it would be worth it.

If McGary comes back the 5 is solid next year. He'll probably be backed up by Bielfeldt and Doyle. I'm pretty confident that Donnal and Chatman will make for a solid duo at the 4 (either both solid or one good enough to play major minutes). Then you're just talking about finding a legit 5 in the 2015 class, but that is something we have to do anyway.
If Mitch doesn't return, then we're in trouble and need to use the extra scholarship on a big, and may want to take two just to hedge our bets.
What bigs? Obi and Tashawn Thomas are the only B1G caliber and I don't see mutual interest.
Can't turn away a future top 10 pick (Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk), a 17 ppg scorer (Eron Harris) or a productive 3/4 (Cole Huff) just to sign bigs who may or may not be of caliber like Indiana did yesterday. Donnal/ Doyle/Max can hold it down til 15' and frankly I don't think we get a big as good as Max this late, who can contribute first or even second year.
Definitely not saying we could get anybody good, just that we'll desperately need somebody or we'll be in big trouble.
If by "hold it down" you mean be not nearly as good as we've been the last two years, then yeah, they can. That is a huge drop-off from what McGary can do, though, or even what Morgan/Horford brought inside. And we still regularly got killed on the glass with those two this year.
There isn't a big available this late who would change that, barring Obi or Tashawn Thomas.
Is there any smoke around Thomas? I see he is a junior so he'd have to sit out a year no? Or does the coaching change allow you to transfer without sitting?
The 6-foot-8 Thomas is a junior who led the team in scoring (15.4 points per game) and rebounding (8.1),
He wants to stay in Texas but has been barred but will appeal.
The reality is if Mitch goes we have issues inside and there are no good alternatives in 2014 - you just are going to play 4 wings and Donnal / SOMEONE has to eat up 40 minutes a nite - assuming Donnal gets about 22, Bielfeldt will probably be stuck there playing 7-8 and then someone else has to play 10 - I guess Doyle. It won't be very fun.
Obi is a logical choice but he doesn't seem interested for odd reasons - he likes Vandy, Duke, Northwestern et all - all similar schools to UM in academics and other than Duke we have the bball advantage over the rest. Strange one.

we have a stretch 4 playing center along with Max and Doyle--one who is limited skill-wise and the other is limited skill-wise and inexperienced.
Obviously, no one wants to turn down a stud, and no one wants to waste a scholarship on someone who can't or won't play. And we won't. But what we need is some size.
I'd like to see where guys like DJ Wilson and Kam Chatman settle in before we say we need another 4. Those guys are both big enough that they could play there.
He looked huge in that JBC game yesterday. Also seemed to be playing the 4 (hard to tell in that kind of game, but he was under the basket for free throws and such and was the 2nd tallest guy on the floor every time I looked).
He also looks like a match-up nightmare at that spot. Can blow by bigger guys and see/shoot over smaller ones. Made some nice passes as well (though that is the type of game where a little bit of unselfishness is richly rewarded). If he can defend/rebound he looks like a potentially great player at the 4 in college.
Projected 5s: Mitch (?), Doyle, Donnal part time, Bielfeldt as emergency
Projected 4s: Donnal part time, Chatman part time, Bielfdelt, eventually Wilson?
Projected 3s: Irvin / Caris , Chatman part time, maybe some minor MAAR

I think the 4 is actually pretty loaded up, but that assumes Mitch comes back. If Huff wants to leave the West Coast than the 3/4 is actually pretty crowded and we need to focus on the 2 because Caris is headed to the NBA. So I'd say the 2 and the 5 are the keys. Especially if Irvin explodes and becomes a candidate to leave after next year. Next year's class also needs a 1 as Walton Jr will be a JR and Spike a SR.

I wouldn't put Hatch in there yet. There's a lot to wait and see with him. He barely played on his HS team this past year. Great story, but let's not bank on him anywhere in the line-up just yet.
Wilson is a 4 and Donnal can slide down to 5 as well
