MBB Recruiting: Michigan may have offered 2014 F Marial Shayok [Ed: False]

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Per the Twitters, more specifically a Canadian hoops blog, Michigan may have offered 3* 2014 F Marial Shayok, who recently received a release from his LOI with Buzz-less Marquette. I emphasize the *may have* since Beilein and company typically require a campus visit before handing out an offer. However, due to the fact that Shayok is expected to sign very soon, they may have relaxed the rule due to the circumstances.

He's listed at 6'6"/6'7", 205. Offers of note include IU, Virginia, Marquette (obviously), USC, and others.

One Canadian to replace another, eh?

Expect Best, Prepare For Worst: Michigan who may lose Stauskas, McGary& GR3 have offered Ottawa, ON's MarialShayok#CdnBallers

Ed-Ace: Sam Webb just debunked this on Twitter. Incidentally, this is the same outlet that reported Nik Stauskas had signed with agent Mark Bartelstein earlier this week, a report Stauskas obviously denied.

His 247comp rank is basically identical to DJ Wilson's (165 overall, #40 SF vs 166 overall, #40 SG). He's virtually the same size as both Wilson and Chatman.

He's also listed as a bit older for his class at 18y9m, so this offer would be a departure from Beilein's frequent strategy, if true.

Beilein can recruit and I think his no offer until visiting policy is great for HS recruits, but lets not act like the possible predicament of 4 open scholarships and every major program vying for the 20 or so productive players out there is charted territory. Kansas doesn't have this policy for example and won't hesitate to extend an offer ASAP.

for transfers. He hasn't recruited any here yet and their circumstances are different. HS school players can take official visits paid for by the school, prospective transfers cannot. It just seems wrong to assume he's going to adopt a counterproductive approach.

Also, we have a maximum of 3 open spots. We were going to be 1 over if everyone returned.

Hoops Hype Canada has now backtracked after supposedly contacting Shayok and getting this quote from him: "Michigan hasn't offered yet, some interest. Still trying to figure this out."

Also, Sam Webb says he worked the phones today and "uncovered six new possibilities on U-M bball radar (2014s & transfers)." His article on this is paywalled, unfortunately.
