OT: New ESPN Gameday commercial
Does anybody else really hate the new ESPN Gameday commercial? Kirk Herbstreit, Urban Meyer, Desmond Howard, and Chris Fowler are all playing bocce or something, and Herbstreit asks Meyer if he'll ever do something iconic with his wardrobe, like Tressel's sweatervest or Spurrier's visor. Meyer shows his two national championship rings and says, "Does this count as part of my wardrobe?"
Then Chris Fowler steps in and says, "I'd say that's...iconic." Desmond goes "Oooooooooooooooh" and Fowler/Meyer pound fists.
I normally like ESPN commercials, but I hate this one. I want to flip the channel every time I see it. I think it's partly because I can't picture any real person thinking, "Oh, snap! Those rings ARE an integral component of that man's wardrobe!" Also, Chris Fowler's pregnant pause before "iconic" is such a horrible acting job that it makes me want to punch a baby giraffe.

But from your detailed description of it I can say right now that I am with you 100%.

Long ago lost their flair. Now they are just self reverential crap. The whole "holier than thou" arrogance of that network is nauseating.

I mean, I think most of these are kind of funny.
Of course, for a station that vaguely prides itself on providing "news," it's a gross conflict of interest and nothing more than opportunistic synergism to even have these corches on their commercials at all. (Notice how it's only Saban, Meyer, Brown, etc.? Where's my commercial involving Brian Kelly, or Chris Peterson? God forbid you act like there's any college football being played besides in teh ESS EE SEEE and the Big XII South...)

Nobody outside of Salt Lake is going to recognise Kyle Whittingham, regardless of how well they did last year.
Mangino might be good for a chuckle, though. Or am I just thinking of Orson's interpretation of him?

To be honest, this one doesn't disappoint me as much as the Big Ten Fan Camp commercial with the Michigan kids catching the Buckeye kid in a trust fall. The commercial would have been better if they had just left it with the Buckeye scared to fall. It also would have been deviously hilarious if they had let her fall. Does that make me a bad person?

I agree that commercial would have been a lot funnier if they would have just let the little girl fall.
They could of justified it by saying something like "maybe some issues just can't be worked out" or something along those lines.

God no, I hope so much that she falls every time i see the commercial but alas, it never happens

When I saw it she DIDN'T go. She was too scared to go.
I do like the PSU kid that paints a canvas white though.

You're right on with the 'pregnant pause.' That awkward audio makes my ears want to vomit every time. IIRC, Urban is kinda wooden, too.

There is a way to re-make the commercial. After the "iconic" crap, Charlie Weis waddles in and waves his shiny Super Bowl rings in Meyer's face, like he did with Terrelle Pryor.
And then Pete Carroll jumps in the commercial while listening to an Ipod loaded with Phish and Bone Thugz, reading off the scores of his victories over Notre Dame.
And then Lloyd Carr walks in and says, "I made Tom Brady, not you fat Charlie." Then he looks at Urban and says, "41-35, chump."
Fade to black.

how much would it take to make this? I'll chip in $5

Tremendous.

The Mack Brown Gameday commercial is one of the best things on ESPN. It could be the fact I irrationally like Mack Brown, but I can't help but laugh when he says "You don't freestyle Texas Fight!"
I really want a commercial next year with RichRod making Fowler and Kirk do pushups or workout or something and they ask how long and Rodriguez says "only 19 more hours" Only, make it funnier, ESPN people.

If RichRod is not available, have Barwis stand do the RR line "only 19 more hours". Only brings up one question: Would the FCC ban this on network TV? It would count as "Barwis Porn"

I really like the Mack Brown commercial too.

it would be epic

I can't believe they got Urban to fist pump and blow it up.
...and to whomever said these commercials are losing their lure. The one with Mack Brown makes me laugh every time. "We don't freestyle Texas Fight big boy."
EDIT: I know day late and a dollar short. PaulVB beat me to it.

To be fair, whenever I see this commercial I cannot help but remember this:

I like the new Sunday NFL countdown "Mort and Matt" commercial, as well as the Brett Favre unretirement commercial.

I liked the Urban Meyer commercial, I thought it was pretty funny. I didn't notice any "pregnant" pause. It came across pretty good.
