Post BBall Season Beveled Guilt-a-thon Pledge Drive Pos-bang!

Submitted by TrppWlbrnID on

Well, its been a heckuva a season, and i know that i have eaten up more than my fair share of bandwidth here. in my opinion, MGoBlog really picked up the basketball coverage this year. Ace provided pre-game analysis, post-game analysis, mid-game tweeting, and post-game giffing. Brian and Seth set the mood with poignant thought pieces, Mathlete hung around and did his thing. All the while, Brandon Brown kept that sweet sweet recruiting juice flowing and the mods kept tight reins on the whole thing.

the great thing about MGoBlog, for me at least, is that it is its own thing, its not part of a yahoo network or bleacher report or anything else. one benefit of this is that it can be whatever the editorial board, and to a lesser extent the users, want it to be. it can be a place where stats and narrative and memory and analysis and tidbits live without all the name calling, emoticons and childish behaviour of the rest of the sports internet. and all of this is given to us for free, no memberships required, nothing.

so, i have a challenge for you, fellow MGoBloggers, the first MGoBlog MGoPoints Beveled Guilt Pledge Drive. here's how it works: for the next 24 hours, you up-vote this post and i donate $0.50 for every up-vote. and just so it doesn't seem like i am hunting only for MGoPoints, a down vote will also get a $.50 donation. now, there are hundreds of thousands of visitors to the site every day and many of them are more computer savvy (aka capable of hacking voting system) than me, so i am going to cap my donation this first time around at an amount i have predetermined. based on what this number is, future donations may not be capped.

i encourage others to make the same pledge below, as well. maybe if we raise enough, we can talk a certain someone out of leaving medical school to rejoin the MGoStaff...

had a guilty conscience and donated to the cause, but I like this idea and will definitely use it in the future.

And one nice thing about someone accusing you of MGoPoint hoarding, I believe that upvotes to MGoBoard posts don't accumulate points.  Only upvotes to responses do.  Unless I'm totally using this thing wrong.

That is correct. Only the replies to the various threads can get upvoted or downvoted in such a way that the user's total is affected. The orginal post - however the votes turn out - does not in any way affect point totals, although memories of a particularly bad OP might affect the point totals of someone down the road.

I refuse to make the same pledge, but I will buy a T-shirt. I've worn my other Michigan shirts so much that they're starting to fall apart, get faded, etc.

Especially after these two dismal football seasons, basketball+MGO has provided the necessary evil to not even think or really worry about what's going on with that football stuff. Pat yourselves on the back guys.

for the Beveled Guilt-Bang, and to send some tangible support to keep it MGoingOn.  As always, this board showed its stuff during the tourney run.  Great information/analysis and great postings (mostly).  Well-done, MGoGang.

I get "over" tough UM losses in a different way in my early 30s than I did in my youth, but I was heartbroken for Morgan/Stauskas/GRIII, etc. yesterday. Ace and Brian's posts were fantastic, and the site's coverage of all things UM (with it's refined focus on football/basketball) is as good as ever. Thanks to the whole crew.

1 small thing.  If you have adblocker installed, you can allow ads on this website so that Brian and company get a little revenue from that.

And great points! We're all lucky to be a part of this community as we swim through the endless ebbs and flows that only come with being a Michigan sports fan. Plus, I have demonstrable proof that there are countless others like me who have such (occasionally asinine, but in the best way) passion for our teams and kids the way I do when the MGoFiance thinks I'm a nut.

I will definitely donate accordingly, and encourage everyone else to show their support and appreciate by doing so, as well!
