JMo: incredible before/after pics

Submitted by StephenRKass on

There is a pair of shocking "before" and "after" pics of Jordan Morgan in a Freep article.

Personally, I find these pics more astonishing and incredible than the ones of Stauskas. Sanderson needs to be given a lot of credit for player conditioning. Seriously, these are like the infomercials we see all over.

I actually really like the article on JMo a lot as well. For those of you who don't have a hangup about Freep links, here it is:

LINK:  http://www.freep.com/article/20140325/SPORTS06/303250026/jordan-morgan-michigan-basketball-tennessee-sweet-16

Here are a few quotes:

He failed U-M’s first conditioning test, “the gauntlet.” It’s sideline-to-sideline, touching 17 lines in a minute. Then rest a minute and do another one. On and on. He didn’t just miss the standard. He had no chance.

And another:

Thinking back this week (to last year in the Tourney,) Beilein said Morgan “couldn’t have been lower in his life.” Morgan gives faith to God, who he feels gave him another opportunity. But he did most of the work, grounding himself with a summer Athletes in Action trip to the Ivory Coast, being patient in the first half of the season as Mitch McGary worked into shape, and seizing the chance when McGary succumbed to January back surgery.

Read the whole article if you have the time.

What do you call a guy with no arms or legs at your door step?

And I wasn't the one down voting you. You are entitled to your opinion.

you should see the arrows now that you have 100 pts. Allows you to up or down vote. I just let my words and three string guitar do the talking.

It's a clear contrast with my physique. It actually isn't appropriate:  it'd add more fuel to the fire with her after me to eat rabbit food and exercise. I guess we all need that motivation, but I hate making it worse on myself.

Interesting choice by God to break McGary's back so that Morgan could get a little extra PT in his 5th year.

Morgan must pray harder.

as a person of faith, to be put in a position like this. Either argue with your "analysis" and risk getting banned and frankly, taking the thread and the board someplace it wasn't intended to go, or just leave it alone, as if there is no answer to your little bits of wisdom. :(

Is there some way we could, you know, talk about Michigan sports stuff, and not slam enormous groups of people in this way?

I appreciate your dilemma. Just a couple thoughts, from the son of a pastor, for what they're worth:

1) The post wasn't funny, insightful or anything other than tasteless. With that said, we all need some thicker skin sometimes. From my limited perspective, if your "faith" requires you to speak everytime someone says something tasteless, your faith will keep you talking overmuch, I think. Let it go, and let the "thud" of someone else's stupid comment speak for you. In this case, I don't think you need to defend God or your faith. Others may disagree, and I invite that--just my sense of it.

2) If there was a point to the post, it might be the occasional tension when religious people will point to their good fortune, give credit to God, and ignore the negative impact on others from the same event. An example would be The 700 Club thanking God for turning a hurricane away from Virginia, when that same hurricane slammed into another portion of the US and caused numerous deaths. As always, we should take every opportunity for a bit of introspection and try to see where someone else is coming from. Often, it's from pain or a sense that others are hypocritical. It is never wrong to look to ourselves and see if there isn't some level of hypocricy or causing of pain to others.

3) A minor note--I consider myself a person of "faith". My belief and lifestyle are my ground of existence, and without my daily practice, I would be lost. I'm also one who could be called very religious--on the Board at my temple, with a lay position there, and I practice my religion every day through meditation. I'm Buddhist, and like many Buddhists, I don't find the concept of God the least bit useful to my daily life. While I have faith, that faith is not in a God as normally thought of by theists, but in empiricial reality, the teachings of those who have shown insight, and the community of others seeking truth. As such, please consider whether you should refer to yourself as a "person of faith," insofar as it implies that those of us who are agnostic, atheist or apathetic do not have "faith."

Just thoughts. I send you nothing but well wishes that you grow in your faith daily.

I didn't mean to offend anyone, get into a theological discussion, or make anyone feel as though they'd need to have that conversation.  I apologize for that. I guess I better understand now why this type of comment can't be made, regardless of intent.

I do however find it interesting that my upvote total is 10, my downvote total is 7 (a net of +3) but my point total has decreased by almost 200.....

FTR, I didn't downvote you. However, as regards your post, it is tricky, and just unwise.

  • Were you being somewhat serious? Than your post is probably out of line.
  • Were you being sarcastic? Ok, but some people have thin skin.
  • Were you trying to be funny? It doesn't work. And you should know this already:  there are a whole slew of topics that are off limits. You generally can't make jokes about: racial character (African, African American, Jews, Middle Easterners, Indians, Mexicans, Italians, Irish, Poles, etc.) or gays, lesbians, transgendered folk, or religion (Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Christianity, etc.) A general "test" is to take some group that you strongly identify with, read a sarcastic joke about it, and see whether or not you laugh or find it offensive.

That's really funny . . . "God took away 200 points" wow, what an interesting thought. Forget about going to Bolivia . . . now God himself is choosing to add or delete points. "I thought I made a funny joke, and all of a sudden, BAM, I lost 3,000 points . . . what happened?" "Son, it's the finger of God. Don't mess with God."

Just goes to show that it can be weird trying to discern what is funny and what isn't. I guess "funny" or properly sarcastic is in the "eye of the beholder/ear of the hearer."

I also did not downvote you. I'm quite unfamiliar with the points system. :)

Very fast version of why your comment made me unhappy -

It's cause it looked quite a lot like arguments that are made against the notion of God, but made in a forum where substantive response felt like the wrong thing to do. Another poster has made a substantive response, and I certainly don't criticize them for it.

Finally, and perhaps more clearly - My main goal here is to talk Michigan sports, and this seemed to detract from that.

Thanks again, and back to praising Jordan Morgan. :)

"Personally, I find these pics more astonishing and incredible than the ones of Stauskas."

This before and after was over a 5 year time span, correct? Impressive, regardless. It really epitomizes the hard work he has been known for.

all the credit. He made the commitment. He wasn't a kid who had much, if any, major college buzz let alone NBA $ to lure him. He made the decision to commit himself on other terms, his own. And it was a commitment with temptations to abandon, from his degree to Mitch and playing time. Yet he didn't give in...what an inspiration he is.

Yeah, if I recall, his dad was somewhat...surprised that Michigan offered him at the time. I remember reading that and sort of feeling bad for JMo. Regardless, his agility and his technique have evolved so far over his time at Michigan. A pleasure to watch, and it's great to see his hard work rewarded.
