Beilein on Rome radio show yesterday

John Beilein will attack Tennessee like Jim Rome attacks four-syllable words.

When Rhome asked if he thought his Wolverines had a chance against the media darlings Tennessee Beilein snapped.

I'm not in favor of solving problems through violence.. However, in this case, I'll make a gleeful, cackling in happiness style exception!
If anybody ever deserved to get the crap beaten out of him during an interview, it's this guy.

I still don't believe that incident. That was as legit as Ali's second knock down of Liston. That is to say, not at all.
That douche move is quintessential Jim Everitt. He's an asshole. When we played them back in 85/86 (can't remember the exact year) he walked down the tunnel right through the entire Michigan team as we prepared to take the field for warmups. Coward Everitt was punching guys in the kidney's and back of the helmet as he plowed his way towards the field.
We beat the shit out of them so he got his just desserts, but I'll never forget what a chump he was.

I am glad Beilein isn't sleeping on Tennessee.
March 25th, 2014 at 10:55 AM ^
The only way Beilein (or anyone else) could "sleep on Tennessee" would be if they turned off the TV, radio and internet for the week. According to just about every talking head - Michigan will be very, very lucky to keep the ass-whipping we are surely going to get inside of 15 points.
Tennessee is being built up as the "it" team right now by EVERYBODY. I was listening to MadDog radio on the way last night and their analysists decided that Tennessee had the easiest road to the Final Four right now because the winner of Louisville/Kentucky will be too "spent" to to beat them in the Elite 8 game. No mention of the possibility the mighty Volunteers could actually lose. That wasnt even an option.

This team is such a mentally tough group of kids. I love them in the underdog role. Everyone was waiting for us to fall apart in the B1G season and we didn't. I don't expect us to roll over for anyone...especially an ORANGE team!
March 25th, 2014 at 11:05 AM ^
They don't mention that Tennessee could lose to us because they never lose. It's not like they went 23-12 during the regular season, man.
March 25th, 2014 at 10:55 AM ^
Me neither. It doesn't sound like a comfortable place to sleep and he needs his rest before the game...

Beilein was also on with John Feinstein yesterday, and he revealed some interesting info about McGary's injury—that he might have had the surgery earlier, increasing the chance of his return late in the season. From an MLive article:
Speaking with CBS' John Feinstein on Monday, Beilein said the team was ready for McGary to undergo surgery in early November and prepared as such prior to that -- so when he ultimately did decide to get the procedure in December, the transition wasn't that difficult.
"We prepared plan B all through (the fall), he was out September, October, half of November. We were prepared for surgery maybe at the beginning of November, and (thought) maybe he'd be back at the end of the year," Beilein said. "But then he started playing pretty well, so we went back to playing the way we were before. So in the end, it eliminated the playing two bigs (which was the original plan).
"But we've got great character kids, and we put the team first."
Beilein was also on WTKA this morning (podcast) and gave his usual crafty response in regard to McGary's return:
Beilein on @michiganinsider on Mitch McGary return: "Plans can change but we have no plans for Mitch to play."

I believe Wofford was 700

The win marks career victory No. 700 for John Beilein, who becomes the sixth active NCAA coach to reach the 700-win plateau.

I have NO DOUBT that even if we win, the winner of the Kentucky/Louisville game will be favored and picked by everyone. If it is Kentucky, they will say, the most talented team in the country is playing their best ball and michgian can't keep up. If it is louisville, they will say we can't match up with them and wil lose like we did last year.
March 25th, 2014 at 11:24 AM ^
Of course Louisville or Kentucky will be favored and I'm fine with that. It's always better for the TEAM to be the underdog beause they play with a chip on their shoulders and then it's great for the fans because we get to see the haters on forums and blogs be silenced.

I feel like it's the team's profile as being a bunch of shooters instead of having a strong paint presence and banging down low like other successful teams do. I know Morgan has stepped up, but they are still undersized at the 4 and pundits seem to believe it is easier to shut a shooter down than it is to stop a dominant post player.

lol- Coach Beilein cracks me up.
March 25th, 2014 at 11:24 AM ^
And the follow up was even better - "er, I mean, great having me on."
Gotta love this guy!

I liked Rome's last statement after Beilein was gone: "I'm a big fan; I like him a lot."

At the sign off I wish Coach B would've done the Carlos Boozer to Rome

The crowd in the background isn't up to the Marshall Henderson-Auburn gif (the best ever imho), but the zaftig fan giving the o-face from the fourth row and floorseat Granny giving the incident her best Hokepoint are both quality.
+1 for teaching me a useful new word.

I think this year's team benefits from playing in the underdog role. Just go out there and let it fly!
