Scouting Report: Michael Weber
This week's scouting report is on Detroit (MI) Cass Tech running Michael Weber, whose interest in Michigan has been reignited after a) the hiring of Doug Nussmeier and b) the decommitment of Damien Harris. I know a lot of people have reservations about Cass Tech players because they haven't panned out as well as we would have hoped (Cissoko, Campbell, Teric Jones, etc.), but regardless, Weber looks like a solid prospect.

I'd like to see Weber in this class. There isn't much, if any, of a drop off between him and D. Harris. I guess I didn't really know he was one of more highly ranked RBs, top 10 in two of the three major recruiting services. I think you have to grab up players like that, especially when they're in your back yard.

I think Harris is a notch above Weber in most categories, but I agree that both are good prospects.
I'm going to go ahead and disagree. Damien Harris is a freak athlete, just a step below someone like Leonard Fournette or Adrian Peterson in my very amateur opinion. Getting him back in the fold would be huge.
No disrespect to Weber, I just don't think he's at that level right now.
Fournette nor Harris have even played a snap of college ball, while AP is one of the best backs of all time. Let's slow down a bit here. Harris and Fournette have a lot of talent, but let's not assume we've got Walter Payton and Adrian Peterson ova here.
Wouldn't those guys have spermatazoa as opposed to ova?

Are we no longer on the top of Damien Harris' list? Would Weber be less likely to come here if we get Harris again?

I think we're still #1 for Harris. It's just now that if he does re-committ, it won't be anytime soon. I think the coaches would take both of them and Weber said he doesn't mind competition, I don't know about Harris. My own personal feeling and based on no info., is that it will one or the other and whoever committs first.

We are reported to be #1 on Harris's list, but I have also heard that Michigan will only take one running back in this class. That surprises me a little bit because we didn't take any in 2014. Regardless, despite reports to the contrary, I got the feeling that Weber does not have a great deal of interest in joining the class if Harris is already committed.
How recent was this? I heard that it looks like the coaches want 2 RB in 2015.

I will say, when I saw the name Emmitt Smith, for a split second I went, "WOW....", but in seeing the video, I see the general style that Smith had in Weber as you mentioned. According to 247, he rushed for 1,659 yards and 24 rushing TDs this past season and has 3,359 yards and 45 TDs in the last two seasons - that's not bad production.

Most RBs do not replicate what they did in HS once they get to college. The talent level is so inferior in HS that those few great players really shine. But once they hit the college level, these great athletes start to match up with guys as talented as they are. The only one in recent memory that not only excelled early on but completely out performed his HS ranking was Mike Hart. He is the last great back that one can point to, at least at being consistently good as a RB. Maybe we see Green or Smith or both finally break that spell and relight that great michigan rb flame.

uses multiple RBs but one at a time, it does seem to follow that they might be getting multiple good players in a class as opposed to singular great players in a class, no?

Must not have wanted the extra 41 yards. That's what it all comes down to.
Please dont compare him to d harris as that is laughable. Although I really like webers speed, acceleration and agility. He goes down farely easy and doesnt seem to be very strong. Reminds me a lot of justice hayes and michael shaw. I could never see him being more than a third down recieving back / special teamer.
