Moderator Action Sticky #3

Submitted by Brian on

Hello. The previous mod action sticky was cumbrously long so this is a new one. What this thread is for:

This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

Update: There's now a Mod Action Sticky IV.

Section 1

If you can't see anything in the foregoing link, this is it:

Have there been any negaitve comments toward Michael Sam?  This is a serious question.

  • Michael Sam's teammates all support him, according to Sam himself.
  • Sam won co-Defensive MVP of the year by a vote of the AP in the Southeast Conference.  Alabama's C.J. Mosley was the co-winner.  I suspect that a lot of writers already knew of Sam's orientation in the vote.  Whether or not it was a vote of favoritism is something I can't say.  I can say that I think Mosley was probably a clear single choice to win the award, Sam notwithstanding.  IN ANY EVENT, there was certainly no discrimination agianst Sam in that regard.
  • The University of Missouri and Coach Gary Pinkel support him, according to all accounts I know of, including public statements.
  • The NFL's official position on Sam is official positive and welcoming, to put it very mildly.
  • The only attributable NFL owner comments (i.e., Kraft in New England) are positive.

I can think of very few "negative" comments, at least from people who are publicly named and given attribution.  I would automatically disavow and disown all of the random and nonattributable social media trashtalk in the cases of Tebow and Sam.  So we can forget that part.

A Kent State University wrestler Tweeted some negative comments, and was suspended from his team.  Who else?

This reply does nothing to actually address my previous comment about the intention of your posts and how regardless of view point, they are, at best, fundamentally redundant with the other existing posts. But to reply to your points before abandoning this pointless exercise in explaining why your posts get taken down for reasons other than some kind of agenda-driven Section 1 oppression:
  • His teammates supporting him is a good thing, speaks well of Sam's contributions to that team, and does not negate other people's support of him or the risk he took by going public with his sexual orientation.
  • This is the kind of baseless speculation and rumor-mongering that contributes nothing to an actual discussion of the situation. You're literally making stuff up.
  • See point #1.
  • The NFL isn't exactly going to release a statement saying anything other than what they said. It's boilerplate. Meanwhile, you have scouts and execs making anonymous statements about his stock falling, the inevitable "distraction" he'll bring, etc. So yes, there have been negative responses.
  • Just because the people making the negative responses are remaining anonymous doesn't somehow mean that they don't exist.

So you haven't seen negative comments from people who are named and given attribution, that doesn't mean that the widely disseminated negative comments that were made anonymously somehow didn't happen. You're basically choosing to ignore bad comments, then saying "no one has made bad comments!"

This is a dumb debate. It's clear I think you're posts on this topic are contributing nothing to the boards and are of the "I'm not causing any problems, it's everyone else who has the problem" variety.

The post was crafted as an exact corollary to the "DFW sports anchor" thread.  Quoting it, in fact.  It was a kind of copy, with a competing link.

That's. The. Point.

You KNEW it was related to a post that was already active. You just did it to be contrarian and to try to prove a point.

I'm done moderating your posts. You shall not create any new ones for a month.

Grantland on Trey and Sullinger

Sorry about this, JeepinBen. It was an excellent article, but it was posted yesterday. Good thought, of course. If anyone else missed it, for now it is about 4 or 5 threads from the top on the second page.

Voting is available on all comment areas of the site except for two spots: non-bumped frontpage posts and mgo.licio.us. I understand the rationale for not voting on official content (chaos) but why is there no voting on the mgo.licio.us link comments? Just curious, and grateful for the relative rise in civil discourse since the return of full voting.

META: Study Finds that Internet Trolls Exhibit Psychopathy, Sadism, More...

As I recall, this made it to the board on Thursday in the middle of the afternoon, so it is soon enough that we're probably safe in considering it a duplicate even if it is not on the first page anymore. That being said, it was a pretty interesting article.

Hardaway Jr. and Dion Waiters 1v1 duel at rising stars

It was posted yesterday but it was pretty cool. It should still be on the second page of threads if you would care to see it. Someone was correct - if it was 4 days, it may as well have been next year, but yesterday is a little below the threshhold for reappearance, I think.

Yesterday michiganman14 posted a semi-redundant thread about the OL.  I made one of my standard smart ass comments and he responded by calling me a douchebag.   LSAClassof2000 dinged his points for the comment.

Respectfully, I would like to make a request that he have his points returned to him.  I absolutely deserved his comments.  I had been baiting him for a few weeks and deserved to be called out.

Harbaugh may be available for 2015

There is pretty much zero reason for this to be here given that we had a roundabout discussion just yesterday. Further, these threads get pretty divisive and that's something that we just don't need, at least not with this sort of frequency.

Michigan BB officially defeating Ohio POSBANG THREAD

I am going to make an early judgement call and say that this could be perhaps easily covered in the posbang thread that already exists, although the fact that OSU is mathematically out of title contention now is a fact that does make everyone happy, I am sure.

Texas Pan-American Up At Halftime POSBANG THREAD!!1

Yeah, sometimes it gets be excessive, but in a hilarious way. I did laugh when I saw this.

new uses for mini basketball hoops in East Lansing.

MGoBlog says that this is not in the least amusing because the story involves an alleged sexual assault. MGoBlog also says "Bolivia.....deep Bolivia". Assuming no further incidents, your points will return around the time the football season begins.

Mods, please delete

This was a discussion on KenPom and adjusting for strength of schedule, which KenPom actually already does. It did spawn some interesting side discussions, however, but the thread is gone per the request of the OP.

CBB Gameday Thread 3/1

There is already a thread for the numerous games today still on the front page, but of course, there will be a separate thread for Michigan's game as always.

Urban Hospitalized?

Obviously, if it is the case, then hopefully all is well and it is not serious, but if we're going to run with something like that, I feel uncomfortable that Bucknuts and RCMB are the only folks talking about it. If someone gets independent confirmation that Urban Meyer was in the hospital at some point, feel free to post that story.

Michigan #22 in ESPN BPI.........huh?

The pitfalls and pratfalls of ESPN's methodology were discussed in a thread earlier today actually. Be damned if, aside from McGary, we've been able to field a healthy team basically all year. Per ESPN, that means our season counts more than MSU's. I like it.

Uniformz: New basketball jersey coming soon

This thread came in second place by mere moments with the news, but as the discussion appears to be ever so slowly be starting in the first one, we can probably take this one off the board.

Nik Stauskas Wooden Award Finalist!

The original announcement was just below this thread, so this one will go. That being said, I would not be averse to any Michigan hoops player winning the Wooden twice in the same year, if it were indeed possible.

Dakich makes annoying prediction

Yeah, the tribe spoke here, it seems, and it is presentation in this case. I realize that Dan Dakich gives the muscles which allow eyes to roll a workout sometimes (the man knows basketball though, you have to give him credit for that), but I don't know if it leads to a good discussion of his statement if we begin the thread with "The dude is ralking out of his ass at least 70% of the time...". Perhaps put more tactfully, such a thread stands.

Lions owner Ford dead

As a reminder to everyone, please try to make a habit of scanning the first two pages or so of thread topics before posting to limit the number of duplicates. In the case of this one, it was only a few threads down - there is a significant number of Lions fans and Detroit area residents on MGoBlog, so something like this is very unlikely to stay off the board for very long.

Thoughts on calling out so called Michigan fans

Only at 19 downvotes, but I don't think this one is going to generate much more than giving the OP grief, but about that, I think it serves as a reminder that we are likely the extreme here at MGoBlog, and there are plenty of fans who don't perhaps have the in-depth historical or technical knowledge of various programs. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that - they are fans all the same.

Transcript of every time Izzo brings up refs in under 9 minutes

Yeah, this interview is posted in one of the existing threads, so there is little point in transcribing it in another thread to be honest. That, and there really should be a limit on the the number of Izzo and MSU threads. As you know, the odd jab is all well and good, but the relative level of interest int MSU's feelings here is quite low, as it should be.
