OT: Working Remotely/Snow Day Open Thread

Submitted by redwhiteandMGOBLUE on

My entire office (10 people) is working remotely today due to the snow storm currently hitting lower Michigan. Anyone else working from home, snowed in, playing hookie?

Please feel free to vent and share your travel horror stories if you braved your way into work today.

If following the book a season structure with the exception of splitting book three into seasons 3 and 4, then 7-8 seasons would match with Martin's vision of a seven book series, although with as badly as he's allowed the story to meander, I don't see how he wraps everything up in another 1,200-1,400 pages but hey look....Dragons and a cash cow!

Out of town in indianapolis working but most of my co-workers live in northwest indiana and were supposed to travel home today. Ironically enough we are all having trouble extending hotel stay because of the big ten tourney

got a 4WD truck so I was banging my head against the steering wheel. I try to remember that not everyone deals with the crappy roads the same though. Had to keep reminding myself not to be right on their ass. That's a dick move and could only make things worse. Of course, I did make sure the 15 cars behind me could see that it was the car in front of me that was pissing all of them off and not me.

Man I just got out of work, and I'm in Northern Michigan so I'm not getting any snow. Just cold. So much cold.

I wish I owned sheep, because I would make those sheep come in my house and lay down. And I would cuddle the shit outta those sheep. At least then I'd be warm.

Between a severe cold and the nightmare commute, I decided to work from home today.

Last time we got this much snow in the overnight hours, I went the first 10 miles in 20 minutes (I-96 between Howell & Livonia)...then the next 1/2 mile took over an hour.  Finally worked by way to the next exit, turned around and went home (in about 15 minutes).

Nothing worse than I-96 commuting with snow.

I worked last night, drove home this morning on these nasty roads. Stay home if you can, there were a lot of accidents and spin-outs on the highways.

I'm home today with my daughter. She's got some sort of stomach bug, this is not going to be a fun day, heh.

My commute is all of the distance from Romulus to Belleville, but it was the most terrifying 8 miles of my life and I didn't go much faster than about 15 MPH for the entire stretch. I basically came in to conduct two Continuous Improvement meetings and then attend a staff meeting, after which I plan to go home and work from there for the rest of the day....after I shovel my way up my own driveway...again...still...

In retrospect, coming in at all was probably a mistake, but the director that was supposed to be at one session did in fact show up, so it might be a good thing that I did as well.

At the moment, it is only a few inches, but it is coming down at about an inch per hour here in Metro Detroit and some areas around here are supposed to get close to 10 inches of snow. They haven't even touched the surface streets yet, so my commute was basically 8 miles of of following ruts and trying to remember where the potholes were.

Not a lot of snow, but just enough to make the drive to school slow.  Coming down like crazy now, and very windy.

March 12th, make it stop already!!

Snowmageddon XIII here in Cleveland is just about ready to start.  Several people in my office did the "I'll be working from home" thing already and my kid's school was cancelled even though nothing has happened yet.

I'm here but I guess I'll end up spending a lot of time on ESPN (watching free agents), CNN (seeing if they can find a missing 777) and MgoBlog.

So basically my day will be like every other day.

I  live in Battle Creek and work in Kalamazoo. I don't have to be in until 3 pm but I seriously doubt my Honda Civic is going anywhere until my street is plowed.

If not someone seriously needs to bump it to its own thread.

Stauskas: Lieutenant Dan!!!

Walton: That's right, Travis Trice cannot guard a one legged man.

And is that Horford enraptured by the victory of the human will over the oppressive shackles of determinism?

The interesting thing about driving into Ann Arbor during these storms is not necessarily the snow, it's that the snow hides the massive pot holes on Huron Street. I nailed a few big ones this morning -- always a good thing to have happen while trying to NOT crash into other vehicles.

My HTML is working on my brower again...no more plain text. I've updated the most recent depth chart because the old one was driving me CRAZY. That said, it's too soon to make a new thread. Maybe after spring ball.
