OT: If Your Pet Were An MGoAthlete, It Would Be...

Submitted by MaizeMN on

Earlier, I was tossing a frisbee into 3ft. snowbanks for my cabin-fever infected dog and asked myself, "What Michigan athlete does my Border Collie remind me of?" She has blazing speed, unbelievable body control and never drops a toss. At first, I thought Caris. Once I got her back inside and witnessed her continued excessive enthusiasm, odd mannerisms and generally quirky behavior: Dakich.

What about your MGoPet? Dog, cat, hampster, banana slug; all pets welcome. All sports also.

MGoMinions discuss, if interested.

A 6 Star recruit!  He runs a 3.87, 40 yard dash. His vertical is about 60" (when he doesn't eat the measuring device) and scholarship offers were coming in from Bama and USC when he was just a puppy.

I have a tough and gritty shepherd tiajuana mutt. She is a little over weight but surprisingly fast and athletic. I would have to give her RVB. She just keeps working and gets it done. Sometimes catching a dog she has no business catching from behind.

I suppose that if our cats were MGoAthletes they would be on the gymnastics team as perhaps that would be the only sport where you could have someone fall from the top of the bookshelf, somehow stick the landing, look at you like "What the hell are you looking at?" and then walk away from the area. This was inspired by something that happened about an hour ago actually, right here in this very room.

She's smaller, only about 30 lbs, but shes crazy fast and agile. I've never seen a dog army crawl under a bed at the speed she does (she doesn't lose speed when army crawling, it's amazing). She thinks she's a fox, but really she looks like a cross between a fox and a sea otter, which is an interesting mix.

Now, some of her skills would translate well to offense, but she isn't good at catching the ball and she fumbles a lot when she gets out of control (which is most of the time). That said, she does a good leg swipe, and gives an even better full speed dead leg. I've probably almost tore an ACL ten times since we got her. She also displays great start-stop quickness at the dog park, which is how she gets away from the bigger dogs after egging them on and then getting them in trouble. Yeah, my dog is that little kid that starts the fight and then gets the bigger one in trouble. I feel kind of bad about that, but I'm a weak father that just gives in to my dog.

Her best sport would actually be parkour though, which she actively participates in when we let her out of her kennel when we get home. She has parkoured off the wall, straight from the floor to back of couch, from furniture to furniture, jumped clear over objects five feet tall, etc. If she wasn't such a cute little shit, she'd be a big shit.

My dog would be Jordan Morgan. He isn't very big, he has a lot of character, and he has been around forever (15 years old this year). On the other hand, he pees around the house when he doesn't get enough playing time, which is kind of the opposite of Morgan.

She's fast as hell and has great swivel in her hips, along with amazing leaping ability. She's a Woodson or a Marlin Jackson, at the very least.

He's a 120 pound rott/lab mix who can eat everything and knock people down barely trying. I'm the only one of the 3 off us who can walk him. Our dtr and I were out about a month ago when it was like 5 degrees because she wanted to help me walk him. He pulled her down and dragged her down the sidewalk. However, she's only like 50 pounds, so it's not like that's hard.

I also have a cabin-fever crazed Border Collie/Australian Shepherd, and she also loves to chase Frisbees in/over/around huge snow drifts. She has great speed, agility, leaping ability (she cleared 46” in a competition), and incredible hand (or mouth) eye coordination all in a small package; that screams Jeremy Gallon to me.

Well let's see, I've got a dog from Alabama that can run 40 miles an hour, was good enough to compete for four whole years, and alternates extreme bursts of speed with utter laziness. Not very agile, but doesn't matter cause she'll catch whatever she's chasing even if it's got a few juke moves. So...frankly I'm at a loss here. But probably not fat from what she actually is. Some kind MGoTrackStar that really likes couches.

Quick question for the frisbee chuckers in the group: what type of frisbee do you use? I entered my dog into her first competition last year (we finished in third place) and noticed that many different type of frisbees were used. I personally throw a Dogobie. They are crazy durable, flexible, easy to throw, will not damage the dog’s teeth, and relatively inexpensive. I'm open to trying new options, does anyone have a better disk?

no doubt about it.    the bigger 'pets' are steers and they are like a young O-line, getting bigger.  the problem is that when they get finished growing, we, uhm, well, slaughter them so that 's a bit different....i guess you could say they go 'pro' though, since we sell them.

oh, and sheep are so dumb they make our cows look like Phd candidates.

Our cat's name is Denard. When we went to adopt him as a kitten, he was running everywhere at high speeds and displayed super impressive agility. Plus, I'm pretty sure he thinks he's a Jaguar most of the time . . .

I have a golden retriever who has the most amazing nose for the ball. When she has it she never lets it go. So, we'll say Mike Hart for her group on the ball.
I got sad trying to think of a ball hawking safety in my time watching. Shazor maybe?

All the way. Not the brightest, tons of potential, and generally drives you crazy wondering why he's taking up valuble roster space. Like Magnus, I have an irrational love for him. He's got some moves though.

Edit: this is about my dog, I swear.

My 18lb mini schnauzer is a little powerhouse who doesn't realize he's only a little guy! He is rambunctious and into everything....

I'm thinking there's a bit of Dennis Nortfleet in him!

Sparky is 85 lb lab/great dane mix.  He's all legs, runs like a greyhound, and will go get that ball...no matter what.  So I figure a WR. Maybe Braylon, but fast.
