I remember the '89 game well and I was in 5th grade.  I was on the concrete bball court the week before shooting free throws with friend that was a much better free throw shooter at the time.  After he out-performed me I told him that free throws were worthless and needless to say I was soon proven very wrong and I was very happy about it.

Now THAT explains a great deal! All this time I thought you were a grow ass man, some disgruntled down-river laid off UAW guy whose angst and passive aggressive attitude toward Michigan football was somewhat understandable considering your (imagined) real world shafting. Turns out you're nothing of the sort, despite your internet demeanor. Cheer up my friend, as trust me when I tell you that these years are supposed to be the best of your life.

Although I respect your right to express your opinions, from here on out I'm going to find it increasingly difficult to give them any credence considering your near complete lack of, you know, anything resembling real world experience and perspective. Just sayin'.

Laid off five years and counting.

Not sure how you got that impression out of me, but alright. I realize I don't have much ''real world experience'' I guess, but I'd like to think that I have a much more realistic view of life than a lot of people my age.

I am not the oldest on the blog by any stretch, but I was born in the early summer of 1978. This entire segment of the thread makes me feel old now. I will probably start drinking earlier than normal on a Sunday as a result of reading this, as I now know that a couple fellow MGoBloggers were born when I was at Michigan.

My best buddy was a Virginia grad. The Cavaliers met the Wolverines in the great 8. We agreed before the match that we would go to the FInal 4. Rice and Higgins crushed Virginia by 50 points and he was a man of his word and we bucked up and made the trip. We ventured out to the Kingdome where UM was for certain to be crushed by Illinois the third time in 89. I'll NEVER forget Higgins put back v Illinois, Glen Rice going full throttle Stauskas, and Rumeal Robinson's FTs.

The rest is history but seeing UM and UVa win their titles today made me think of getting ready to see some more tournament action with my Wahoo friend.

and was stuck for two weeks as a transient at the Philadelphia Navy Yard on duty for the Illinois game.  Had to watch huddled around a little 14 inch screen with a bunch of Michigan-hater 'experts' who razzed me about Illinois' superiority.  Until the end.  There is not much that is sweeter than in-person schadenfreude.
