247 updates their recruit rankings today.

Submitted by Jimmyisgod on July 21st, 2021 at 11:22 AM

Should be updated at noon.  Are we expecting any big risers?  Fallers?

I saw that ESPN dropped Denegal and Trent, neither are composite 4 stars anymore.

What are we expecting today?  Loveland continue to rise?  Denegal fall some more?

If it’s anything like most other EA Sports games in the last 7-8 years, gameplay will be shit and glitches will happen all the time, but EA won’t care because they’ll be sitting back and counting all the cash they make on people paying microtransactions for select players or loot boxes (which is basically unlicensed gambling for kids).

That being said, I’m still so excited to buy the new NCAA game!

I'd expect most of our commits to rise if the staff's evaluations have been correct. Denegal falling wouldn't shock me and Tyler Morris falling wouldn't shock me either

Problem is if the recruiting sites still haven’t made an effort to evaluate some of those potential late risers yet, their ratings won’t change much.

“If the staff’s evaluations are correct,” implies the recruiting sites get it right all the time eventually also. Which isn’t the case. They still criminally underrate guys.  They still overvalue their own camps (some kids don’t camp much), so there’s a lot of reasons the rankings won’t necessarily adjust accurately.

Let’s not forget, some of these sites didn’t even have recruiting profiles for some of these guys a couple weeks ago. I’m not very confident they properly evaluated them in that time. So even if we do see some risers it could just be based off of offers and commit status. Which, again, doesn’t spell accuracy from the sites.

I see Myles Pollard, Eugenio, and Lorenzetti rising. Loveland is already a 4* so he's probably not going anywhere. Kevonte Henry could rise as well.

Tyler Morris seems like a guy who will get passed by a bunch of risers, but whose stock isn't actually falling.

Among our targets, Deone Walker, Dillon Bell, and Ja'Kobi Albert could all rise.

Yea upon closer inspection, there are several QBs behind Denegal who probably should be ahead of him, so I can see him falling further.

I think Walker would be better at OT than DT, but that lack of positional clarity may hold him back from reaching that high.

Trent had some really poor track times (like translating to 4.9+ 40 poor), so his current 3* grade makes sense, as he still has a great frame and ball skills.

Marlin Klein SHOULD get a bump, but I don't know if he will. Otherwise, I would not be surprised to see Myles Pollard and Alessandro Lorenzetti move up.

I expect the biggest boosts for players who've committed to schools in areas where 247 has a high concentration of subscribers.

Michigan is not a contender in the annual dick-measuring contest for "No. 1 Recruiting Class." Once a kid commits to UM we should be looking at his rank vs. the other players on our team, not the other players on the internet.  Hoping that Marlin Klein rises from TE #27 to, what... TE #22? That's a sad little vanity play that marks us as a mediocre program.  We need to get back in the hunt for the top tier players before we start tracking the rise and fall of our recruits.

Speaking of rankings did anyone see the new On3 2021 rankings? They’re pretty different from Rivals and 247. I heard that there 2022 rankings will factor into the composite once they come out too.

I think this is as far as they've gotten so far. Worthy at #17 and McCarthy and Edwards outside of 5* range obviously hurt. But they're launching their site next month, so there does seem to be some attention grabbing going on (like Tuimoloau at #25)

Will Johnson moved down 2 spots because of risers. Tyler Morris moved up 2 spots to 75 so that’s a good sign. Those were on 247 rankings. Johnson actually moved up 1 on the composite. Morris moved up one of the composite as well.

Houser for MSU moved up a bunch. Dillon Tatum moved down 6 spots on the composite due to risers. Still 100% crystal balled to UofM.

Mario Eugenio moved up one on the composite to 294. Kody Jones moved down 2 to 318. Deone Walker moved down 1 to 325.

Not a lot of movement for Michigan guys. Some guys you would have expected to make a decent jump and they actually moved down slightly.

I’m not an expert at reading 247sports site but I believe they have. Looking at Mario Eugenio, when he committed he was a .9007 on the composite. He was the number 23 edge to 247sports when he committed and now he is number 25. And his composite score is .8992.

Just so everyone is aware who follows recruits, Trent has transferred to Harper Woods. He is going to get a much better opportunity to showcase himself this year.

This class so far is the worst per recruit ranking under JH's tenure, just behind the 2018 class.  This is not surprising given last year's performance and all the coaching turnover.  The staff has gotten a few guys they really wanted, some of which were highly ranked (Johnson & Morris), some of which were in the middle (Eugenio, Jones, & Trent) and some of which are a little lower (Pollards & Loveland).  But, the 2017 class was the highest rated and we all know how that turned out.  Hopefully the new staff can do a bit better with development & retention and with a few flashes of development and maybe an upset win or two and maybe JH gets off the hot seat and we get back into the .90/.91 per recruit range in 2023.  A big year for guys like McNamara & the WRs on offense and Mazi, Hinton, & Hutch on defense could really help.  Then again, maybe JH is gone.  Either way it will be an interesting year.  It feels like a "shit or get off the pot" kind of season for JH's tenure.

I 100% thought you were referring to the basketball rankings and even went to the 247 basketball website to check for articles. When I came back here and saw somebody mention that it's not surprising that "JH's" class is lower ranked, I was then confused.

Then I remembered that both our basketball and football coaches are JH.

And thus ended my journey of confusion.
