GR3 Appreciation Thread

Submitted by MontuckyYooper on

There's been so many people questioning this kid's ability (and downright hating on him).  Yet he's made SO many hustle plays in the last few games.

I, for one; am really proud of how he's battled and figured out his role on this team.

7/11, 3/4 FT, 17 points, 8 Rebounds and 3 assists.

And a game-winning shot on his daddy's home floor. Big ups to G.

How far can this team go if Stauskas, LeVert, and GR3 all play well on the same night?

It was close, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't.

Being able to take the inbound there was pure GR3 athleticism, but my brain couldn't even register that he was up again and airborn the whole time he was dodging defenders and putting up the shot until I saw the replay. I'm not sure I want to have another game depend entirely on his being able to make that shot again, but I can't imagine anyone else doing that.

Great game for Glenn. I've been one to call him out before, so he deserves props where props are due (because he cares so much about a man with a cartoon deer for an avatar's opinion).

Great job Glenn. Hopefully this is the spark you need.

Right now everyone is in a metaphorical group hug around Robinson repeating, "I'm sorry man, I never meant any of it."

I also think this may be the kind of thing that gets his confidence back on track.

Coach B always says that Nik steps up, Caris steps up, and GRIII is capable.  Just depends on what the defense gives them.  Well, I was texting a friend throughout the game that game felt like GRIIIs game.  He was agressive on O and the glass.  I thought that Nik forced the issue a little bit.  Lots of drives hunting for the foul and some poor decisions passing and shooting.  As great as he's been, I wish he would have felt that Glenn was the hot hand a little sooner.

On the other hand, way to be patient GRIII.  And thanks to Spike and JMo for huge contributions.

Gotta give the man credit. He has really quieted the haters recently. He's starting to come around at the right time. If he can keep producing like this, I like our chances to run the table.

All hail GR3!

9-30 and we still eek out a win.  great for GR3.  he really needed to be the hero for a change.  overall good game for him; his mid-range shot was on.  wish he would learn to box guys out though.

Have to feel for Purdue's kids.  They left it all out on the floor.  I was expecting Michigan to pull away, but they kept fighting.  Obviously proud of Michigan for winning and overcoming adversity, but Matt Painter had a sick look on his face.  Can't blame his kids because I don't know how you can defend that game winner any better.  GRIII just had ice water in his veins for this one.  Also, I'm pretty sure I had about a dozen heart attacks throughout this one.  Wish they could get off to better starts.....

Yea, we all know that GRIII is a streaky player but hopefully this is the kind of game that really gets him going and just in time for the games that really matter! Go Glen Go!

only reason why we rip on GRIII so much is because his talent is obvious. kid is a nba lottery pick - those get scrutinized. maybe not fair, but he'll be ok.

very happy to see him have this game. i've questioned his game often, but never his effort. i have confidence beilein unlocks the mystery that is GRIII, and this game might be step one.

also, glenn reminds me alot of THJ his sophomore year. another guy who's nba stock fell in year 2, after having benefitted by playing with a 2nd year pg who left for the nba, struggled his second year. much of GRIII's production last year was trey ooping him or kicking it to him in the corner. Hardaway eventually figured it out. glenn will too, this year or next if need be.

GR3 has played at the 4 all year despite expecting to play the 3.  He's battled guys with a few inches on him all year and done a great job on the boards.  People assume that just because he can jump means that he should rebound with ease.  A) Rebounding is tough.  The toughest thing to do on the court.  B) It's even tougher when you're always going against guys taller than you.

Very impressed with GR3's resiliancy.

i wouldn't call a 4.3 avg great.  it's even worse than last year.  decent rebounding guards get more rebounds than that.  that's my biggest gripe with him.  if his shots are not going down, at least give extra effort at other things like rebounding.  and the overall effort has not been there this year.

hopefully tonite kickstarts his game going forward.

The first half was a debacle for the entire team. The second half was much better: more DD penetration and much better rebounding. The shooting and FT percentages weren't good. GRIII needs to get stronger on holding the rebounds and blocking out, but that last shot was priceless. Credit to JB for realizing that Purdue would look to Stauskas, Caris and Spike as possible shot-takers. Allowing GRIII that shot may have infused him with some much needed confidence and the youngsters gritted out another BIG road victory. GO BLUE!

...and happier that he made such a GREAT play.

But his defense was awful and he's still not aggressive enough. I can't even call him little dog, because he doesn't have any dog in him right now.

That play was AMAZING! His athleticism is unreal and I'll take a bad game, shut up, and go home.

BUT. I'm not gonna act like the rest of the game didn't happen. I don't even care about his offense, his defense and effort on the defensive glass HAS to get better.

With Stauskas I feel like he's at least close to his potential, with Robinson, I don't he's more than halfway...and I guess that's what's so frustrating because he could get at least 75% of the way with effort and toughness. Two things HE can control. If we ever get those two things, we've got an All-American and POY candidate. Until then, we get flashes of athleticism and a decent all-around B1G player.

Nik was going up a bit soft in my opinion trying to draw the foul, which is good but the refs were having none of that.  GRIII put together one of his most solid games of the year.  For the most part, his effort on the glass was much improved.  I was hoping he'd nab a double-double but alas I'll take the game-winner.
