Four things I want to see on Sat. Your thoughts?

Submitted by iawolve on

This is based on the fact that the game is not in doubt.

1) Passing Yardage- Preferably to outside receivers again. I am not hoping for another 350+ yd running day.

2) Young defenders playing- Specifically Will, Fitz and Vlad to see what we have this these guys. I assume JT is on the shelf for this year, but we need to see depth in all three levels.

3) Drob running more of the offense- All we get is random glimpses. Not sure if he simply needs more reps to get into the flow. All we really know about him is that he is fast and limited with what he can do, which has not enabled us to find a more effective fit in our overall game scheme.

4) Hold the 12 QB carry target- Seems like we are bailing to this too much and leaving yardage. I am sure most of that is simply from inexperience. I would hate to force a guy to do something, but man, it would be nice back off the QB runs a bit.

Anyone who can still be redshirted at this point--keeping the redshirt.

On Scout, Maizeman has stated that Emilien still has some swelling problems in the knee. Why waste the year and not give him extra healing time? I'd also LOVE to see as many guys from the 2009 class being groomed and acclamated to weather, college life, The System, Barwis as possible (especially in light of what DOES appear, at this point, to be a recruiting class short on top-end talent and one that is addressing specific needs)--and entering what promises to be a very nice run with four full years of eligibility remaining.

Going back to the original format, here are my 4 wishes for Saturday:

1) I'd like to see us try a few throws downfield. I feel that defenses are really creeping up because we haven't really gone deep since the WMU and ND games, and with some success too. I think it's important to take a couple deep shots a game just so the dbacks know it's a threat. We have decent talent at WR, and ultimately it helps in the short game.

2) 100% with you on seeing more DRob. Half of that is b/c we really haven't seen much, and the other half is to rest Tate's shoulder. It wouldn't bother me much to see Tate sit all game, especially if the concussion is for real.

3) Would like to see more of the backup RB's, especially Smith, Cox, & Shaw. Giving Minor and Brown an extra week to heal would be good before the PSU game.

4) Rotate a few more guys in on the D to gain valuable experience. We'll need more depth with the opponents we have coming up.

This will also be my 18-year-old daughter's 1st game at the Big House. GO BLUE!

Its been hard for Tate to get the ball down field since he's been running for his life. Those first two games had Molk in at center. Though Moosman is getting better, and we may get Molk back by PSU, (though I don't anticipate that he'll be 100%) its going to be tough sledding for a while.

1. DSU does not score.
2. DSU held to under 250 yards of total offense.
3. Michigan gets 350 yards rushing.
4. Michigan scores 42+ points.

I would like to see 1) a +40 first half scoring-our scoring, of course-with 2) ZERO for them. I would like to see 3) Denard have a fabulous passing day and 4) Mike Cox have an explosive day to suggest that if needed as a big back he could sub for Brandon or Carlos.

Special Teams.

We have to see special teams play better. We're in every game and special teams more often than not can win a close game. I'm still nervous that every punt is going to be fumbled and kick coverage is downright awful. Zoltan can boom 90 yard punts, but then they get 50 back in return years (an exaggeration)

According to Sagarin, DSU is ranked #187. For comparison, EMU is ranked #164. So I wouldn't expect much different than the Eastern game. The same EMU that Northwestern limped by 27-24 and CMU crushed 56-8.

So I'm not looking for a blowout. I'll settle for:
1. Solid, fundamental play by the secondary (no 3rd and 25 TDs).
2. Tate looking healthy.
3. Denard checking down through receivers.
4. Um, nice weather?

1. The 1st quarter
2. The 2nd quarter
3. The 3rd quarter
4. The 4th quarter

Unfortunately, I'll miss the game because I have to attend a wedding.

I don't think that matters as the game doesn't seem to be on any network down here (Big Ten Network is showing the OSU-Purdue game), so I can't even tivo it.

1) Fundamentals and attention to detail.
1a) Hold on to the damn ball.
2) Maybe finally watching that Terrence Robinson kid I've been hearing about the last two years.
3) Coner.
4) A good show from both bands.
