OT: Are you smarter than a NFL draft prospect
A little side bar to break up the monotony of your day.

My job made me take this test and I scored a 46. It's not a hard test, just measures how fast you can process information. I would be curious to see how SEC players score on this test.

Didn't he get one of the highest scores ever on that test?
February 21st, 2014 at 11:10 AM ^
Not many people in the NFL care about the test. least of all the prospects.
February 21st, 2014 at 11:12 AM ^
in which case it's suddenly OMG HUGE NEWS MAN
February 21st, 2014 at 11:17 AM ^
A 33. Could probably do higher had I gone faster at the start. Ran out of time with 10 questions to go.
February 21st, 2014 at 11:20 AM ^
The real question is "are you poorer than every single NFL draft prospect is about to be," and the answer is yes.
February 21st, 2014 at 11:51 AM ^
True, but let's revisit this five years after they "retire" (read: are cut) and realize that making it rain so many times at the club maybe wasn't such a good idea. Seventy-eight percent of them will be bankrupt and would love to have my low 6-figure middle management job (that doesn't result in debilitating pain later in life).

How's bragging camp going? "My modest SIX FIGURE SALARY!!!!!"
February 21st, 2014 at 1:37 PM ^
C'mong man. This is the internet. We both know I don't make that much. I live in Ypsilanti fergodsake.
February 21st, 2014 at 1:28 PM ^
In 2014 among (mostly) Michigan alumni, a low six figure salary is hardly bragging. In fact it's probably below average (not trying to offend you Ypsi, but defend you). I have at least a dozen friends I went to school with who are making 500k+, and I'm only 30.
February 21st, 2014 at 1:37 PM ^
I could make that much money in 5 seconds! GOSH!

Mid-career median salary for a Michigan grad is 93k. Brag about how you chose your doctor based on race again, oh myopic one.
ETA: that's from 2008. A less reliable source in 2013 says 84.2k: http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report-2013/full-list-of-schools

Yeah, I think the "6-figure" point is quickly losing some of its cache. In major metropolitan areas like NYC, LA, Boston, etc, you may have a hard time even buying a house in a decent area on a $100,000 salary.
February 21st, 2014 at 3:06 PM ^
I think you mean cachet ("the state of being respected or admired; prestige.") and not cache ("a collection of items of the same type stored in a hidden or inaccessible place.").
February 21st, 2014 at 3:09 PM ^
Add that to the list of reasons why you know I don't make that much money. Haha.
February 21st, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
I met this woman on the internet who makes $250k while working 15 hours/week from home. She's says anybody can do it. She posts about it a lot on CNN and CNBC. She's trying to recruit me, but I'm playing hard to get.
February 21st, 2014 at 11:55 AM ^
same as Andrew Luck. Now if I could only pass like him.
February 21st, 2014 at 12:50 PM ^
And should be a piece of cake.
February 21st, 2014 at 1:06 PM ^
Stupid f'in test! There's no way I'm as dumb as Ben Roethlisberger!!
Although I do think that I would have scored much better back when I was young graduate and was more accustomed to tests. My math skills have definitely atrophied over the years (decades even) since then.
February 21st, 2014 at 1:30 PM ^
Agreed. I got a 26 (same as Jay Cutler, apparently) but I thought the same thing - I could have done far better had I done that right out of college. Or even again in 15 minutes.
February 21st, 2014 at 2:34 PM ^
...you just beat out me. I got a 25 like Roethlesberger. +1 to you.
February 21st, 2014 at 1:09 PM ^
I scored a high but still plausible value. Can we share our ACT and SAT scores also? I did very well on the GRE. Maybe this should be a diary.
February 21st, 2014 at 1:17 PM ^
If I pulled out pencil and paper/paced myself better (8 questions left), I think I would have gotten higher. Lots of quick math.
February 21st, 2014 at 1:22 PM ^
Yes...but I am slower and bench less.
February 21st, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
I'm probably smarter than many of them, but will still end up making considerably less money than they will.
February 21st, 2014 at 2:32 PM ^
This isn't really a test of intelligence, at least as it applies to football. I mean, I've got a couple of advanced degrees but I'm an idiot at biology because the last time I studied it was in HS, and I probably would struggle to read an NFL playbook. How a general aptitude test applies to a specialized set of knowledge like football always seemed weird, and unless the guy gets a 2 and seems to be trying I don't think it says anything about the player you couldn't pick up from a conversation.

One of my questions was which doesn't belong:
Apple
Orange
Watermelon
Celery
Tomato
Welp.
Celery is the only vegetable, but the orange is the only item on that list that doesn't have green varieties. So there's at least two options. Celery doesn't have seeds and it is also not rounded so maybe that's the more logical answer. Still, there are two freakin' answers.
February 21st, 2014 at 3:56 PM ^
It's the only word with more than six letters!
February 21st, 2014 at 11:53 PM ^
And it's the only one that doesn't end with a vowel.
February 22nd, 2014 at 1:29 AM ^
Tomato doesn't have an e.
Orange doesn't have any rhyming partners.
February 21st, 2014 at 9:13 PM ^
Yeah, well you can wonderlic my balls
February 21st, 2014 at 9:34 PM ^
I scored a 45. Higher than Eric Decker, I'm told.
I win the Wonderlic. He wins on looks, athletic ability, salary, and hot country star wife.
It's a push... right?
