2019 Michigan Pro Day Results
Michigan had its pro day today, which included a bunch of draft-eligible players from Michigan, along with UCLA QB (and Michigan transfer) Wilton Speight.
I thought this would be a good place to share some of the results of the day, even though specific results aren't necessarily officially recognized.
Zach Gentry says he ran the 40 in the 4.6 to low 4.7 range (LINK), and a video showed him doing 14 bench press reps (LINK).
Other players participating:
Devin Bush
Juwann Bushell-Beatty
Berkley Edwards
Rashan Gary
Karan Higdon
Casey Hughes
Tyree Kinnel
David Long
Lawrence Marshall
Bryan Mone
Grant Perry
Andrew Robinson
Brandon Watson
Chase Winovich
Noteworthy players missing from the list: Noah Furbush (I believe he has no interest in playing professionally), Jared Wangler
Noah Furbush has signed a contract to join my beloved Marine Corps. He heads to Officer Candidate School after he graduates.
Hope he doesn't get lost at the land nav course.
I'm more curious what's his favorite color/flavor of crayon. I bet green tastes awful.
Semper Fi, Noah.
I thought Gary attended today and interviewed with teams but didn't actually workout?
You are correct. He was pleased with his combine, and I don't think Bush participated either.
I saw something today that had Bush (#10) going before Gary (#12 or #13). First time I'd seen Devin ahead, but I think it'll be closer than we would've thought 2 months ago.
Yup.
Wilton Speight says he ran a 4.79 forty.
BTW, 40 times at pro days are usually .1 to .2 seconds quicker, so he was probably in the 4.9-ish range if it was laser-timed.
Guys naturally report the best number they heard on the day. It's wild to me that people still hand time at all.
I am surprised they don't make players run 40s in pads since that is how they actually play the game. That would be a great way to test the real "football speed" that's always discussed.
From watching game film I could definitely see Denard losing less speed w/ pads on than most other guys that timed quicker but didn't seem as fast on the field.
It's not so much pads versus no pads. It's more general agility, absolute speed, change of direction, and explosiveness. No single test is going to tease out how all those differences interact.
I had my own pro day today, too. I ran a 4.5 40, and since I said it, it must be true.
That's pretty good for a guy your age. Congrats!
I was going to say 4.3 but no one would've believed it.
But did you start at the 20 yard line?

No started at 0, but he ran a 40 ft dash.

I like it Steve. I too take self reported times with a grain of salt
Jim Harbaugh called...he wants his shorts back.
I didn't know they made pleated "sport" shorts.
Jim Harbaugh doesn't own shorts.
do cut off khakis count?
Those shoes, lol.
Tom looks like he drove to the combine in a Ford Windstar.

Is this from before people understood how wind resistance works? That shirt is so baggy
I’d be so happy if Bush and Chase were the Steelers first two picks.
I think Gary could end up with Hurst and the Raiders
I would like to see devin bush and devin white go to the same team somehow. Just insane speed on defense.
anywhere but the Lions or Bengals.
I heard Wilton Speight threw 15 interceptions.
PUT. IN. O'KORN!!!
Hey now, that's15 completions.

What is Herbert doing? That's one of the worst spots I've seen in a while. Get away from the bar until he's actually in danger of failing. There's no way for anybody to know whether you're helping him or not if your hands are on the bar for every rep.
Also, Gentry is bouncing the bar off his chest like crazy. He looked very uncomfortable under that weight. And his hips came off the bench on the last rep, so he really only completed 13.

Is that herbert spotting? He needs to back off and not act like he has to spot every rep, nobody benches well with someone looking over and it's hard to tell but it looks like he's touching the bar....
