F Rosenberg. While I'll read the FREEP from time to time, I'll never read his work.
February 20th, 2019 at 11:46 AM ^
Wasn't Rosenberg executed for giving the Atomic Bomb to the Russkies?
How did he write an article for SI?
He and his wife Ethel are dead to me.
Sorry - Mike not Julius. Never mind.
February 20th, 2019 at 8:16 AM ^
Rosenberg is dead to me.
February 20th, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^
But his legacy lives on. For a good time, read the Amazon reviews of his book on Bo, Woody, and The Game. Seriously, READ THE REVIEWS! It is well worth your time (more than reading his actual book).
February 20th, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
One of those 1* reviews belongs to me.
Mike can eat shit.
February 20th, 2019 at 1:47 PM ^
I too, am guilty of one of those 1* reviews; and by guilty, I mean proud to admit it. Fuck that guy forever.
February 20th, 2019 at 6:18 PM ^
I didn't want to admit it, but.... yep. #METOO
February 20th, 2019 at 8:32 AM ^
Rosenberg can go eat a bag of Dicks.
February 20th, 2019 at 8:39 AM ^
Let me help you with that.
Rosenberg can go eat a bag of Syphilitic dicks.
February 20th, 2019 at 8:48 AM ^
Four posts and still no "Move on! That was ten years ago!" posts.
Good.
February 20th, 2019 at 9:06 AM ^
I haven't been here that long, what on earth did this man write that was so offensive? I'm not a troll I am seriously curious.
February 20th, 2019 at 9:17 AM ^
Rosenberg wrote a series of articles a few years ago which made a relatively minor violation of NCAA rules seem like a major scandal.
See here.
February 20th, 2019 at 9:23 AM ^
Man thought he was gonna become Woodward and Bernstein by taking down Rich Rodriguez and Michigan football. Couldn't find anything so he went after them with such heinous crimes as stretching for 15 minutes too long. Great big breathless articles on the front page of the Freep. I can still smell the stink of that steaming turd of journalistic malfeasance 10 years later.
February 20th, 2019 at 9:59 AM ^
Thanks for the info. I won't read anything written by this turkey (or anybody that even looks like him)!
February 20th, 2019 at 11:22 AM ^
It's actually worse than that - the guy used some out of context quotes from true freshmen early enrollees about how hard the coaches push them each day. Those guys had no idea what they were being used for...
Fuck Rosenburg all the way to hell.
February 20th, 2019 at 11:21 AM ^
The asshole made accusations but did not know what the ncaa rules were.
February 20th, 2019 at 12:42 PM ^
That's the part that got me - he was shady as hell with how he got his information. Like, he cornered freshmen at media days and asked them questions that led to misleading answers, then didn't really try to follow up or get clarity. It wasn't that RR didn't mess up with the compliance side for stretching, but Rosenberg clearly had an agenda and manipulated college athletes to get there. He also helped keep up the "lack of family values" bullshit Justin Boren peddled on his way out.
I'm sure he had nice stuff to say about Simpson, but Rosenberg is an embodiment of many issues I have with hacky sports journalism.
February 20th, 2019 at 6:25 PM ^
Agree with most everything you said, but not the justin boren story. justin boren had a younger brother who was a fullback which did not fit in RR's scheme. His father mike boren, who played here for Bo, was quoted as saying that he and his wife were not going to split up and see the kids play at 2 different schools, thus justin left to go the THEEEE ohio. Family of fucking trashy traitors.

I actually know Mike Rosenberg. Nice guy for real. But its been years since I saw or talked to him. I sincerely hope he’s doing well.
With that said, I still get a chuckle reading the reviews of his book War as they Knew It. Go to Amazon and take a look for yourself.
February 20th, 2019 at 10:28 AM ^
Holy Sh*t!!! Thanks for the reco... Let me just quote one of the reviews:
"I would rather have elephant-man disease than have to read 1 more chapter of this garbage. He takes one of the greatest rivalries in sports, and reports it as if it were a series of spelling bees by deaf mutes. Hopefully, there is no audio book version, I can't imagine listening to this without driving into a telephone pole on purpose. A spiral notebook with all the pages torn out has more valuable content. This book's only value is that the paper it's printed on is recyclable." - Chief Wiggam
I don't think the respectable Officer from Springfield enjoyed his purchase...
February 20th, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
Morgan Freeman once said: I wish you would have let me know this was a quote from Chief Wiggam so I could change the voice in my head to Chief Wiggam while reading it.
February 20th, 2019 at 11:53 AM ^
I had trouble finding his book and was intrigued to read the reviews. Saving curious parties the hassle I just went through: https://www.amazon.com/War-As-They-Knew-Schembechler/product-reviews/0446580139/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_hist_1?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=one_star&reviewerType=all_reviews#reviews-filter-bar

Yeah, no. Love that Simpson is getting pub but I refuse to read anything by that sniveling little shitstain Michael Rosenberg.

You guys are missing out...it's a great article
February 20th, 2019 at 9:21 AM ^
It's well written...don't know the history here. Otherwise, whatever.
February 20th, 2019 at 12:40 PM ^
Copy and paste it for is. Fuck that guy.
February 20th, 2019 at 9:27 AM ^
Great that he wrote an article about X. But I'm not giving it a click.
Albert Breer, Seth Wickersham and other originators of sports fiction can eat shit, as well. They ruin journalism.

That is a good article. I was always interested about how the point guard situation worked itself out last year. Though there was not that much of a sample size, I really liked what I saw out of Simpson in his freshman year, and though I understood bringing in a transfer for depth, I thought that Simpson would certainly be the starter going into the season.
In a game within a game, I really cannot wait to see Simpson v. Winston this weekend and back at Breslin. Winston is not a particularly hate-able State player to me. I confess to sometimes wanting to wipe the smirk off his face, but for the most part he seems like a really coachable and hard working player.
He certainly has game too, I generally don't watch State that much unless they are playing Michigan but I will tune in a little bit to watch Winston play. Him v. Simpson this weekend will be a battle. When Winston cannot get his own shot State struggles mightily. Particularly with Ward out (though I actually believe that State relies on Tillman every bit as much as Ward), Winston is going to have to try his hand at taking over a game against a really, really skilled defender.
Worry if - Simpson is in early foul trouble and Winston is crossing up fools
Cackle with knowing glee if - The song "Eye of the Tiger" is literally playing in the background as Simpson is harassing Winston at half-court and Kenny Goins is shooting late clock threes.
February 20th, 2019 at 11:28 AM ^
If Simpson gets in early foul trouble, get ready for Winston to get dominated by Charles Matthews. We match up with MSU really well.
February 20th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
I think the majority of the Board is underestimating MSU a little bit. Obviously I like Michigan at home against them, but I am expecting a battle even without Ward. They were close to spectacular defensively against Ohio State this past weekend and had some other players really step up down the stretch.
Obviously there is Minnesota first to think about for now but I am not expecting a beat down on Sunday. (I would obviously like one but that is now how I see it playing out). This MSU outfit has my begrudging respect.
February 20th, 2019 at 12:11 PM ^
This game is going to be very ugly, in a good way. Super physical and will be in the 50s
February 20th, 2019 at 12:14 PM ^
Agree with this 100%. MSU is Top 10 KenPom on both offense and defense and have proved they can beat good teams on the road (something Michigan hasn't done outside of Villanova).
If you look @ on/off stats, MSU is actually better offensively and defensively with Tillman in over Ward. With that said, it doesn't take into account the depth issues of moving Tillman into the starting 5.
I do think people are over-looking how well this team plays together--think Michigan 2017/2018 vs. MSU last year deferring to Bridges or Jackson.
February 20th, 2019 at 5:09 PM ^
MSU has also proved they can lose to bad teams and good teams on the road. They’ve also proved they can lose to bad teams at home.
I don’t think anyone is saying we will blow them out, but losing a guy who averages 17 and 5 and is one of two people who can create their own shot is a huge, huge loss
February 20th, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
First off, Ohio State is hot garbage and has nearly as few scoring options as MSU does. Locking them down offensively is not tough when you contain Wesson. They are currently 8th in the B10 and just gave Illinois their first road win of the year. You are severely overestimating that game at home for MSU. Second, the majority of the board thought we would split with MSU before and without Ward, they now think we have a good shot at sweeping them. That isn’t underestimating them, that is pointing out the obvious that all of their strengths are not going to be as strong against Michigan because we match up with them extremely well.
College basketball is 95% about matchups. Unless you think MSU will get the better of any of these - Goins vs Iggy, Poole vs McQuaid, Teske vs Tillman, Matthews vs Ahrens/Henry - then we shouldn’t have to worry as much about Winston vs Simpson, which I think Simpson showed last year he had no problem locking down Winston. They just have no answer for anyone on our team and they will need Goins to go gangbusters with a bunch of threes to compete with us
February 20th, 2019 at 7:40 PM ^
Alright dude, roll with that dude. And enjoy your freak out when it is a close game. State losing Ward made this a tougher game, not an easier one. This is chess not checkers. MSU now enters this game without a shread of expectation, and reason to play their more efficient big man who also scores, rebounds, blocks and assists at a higher clip than Ward in slightly less action. I expect State to play loose and inspired. It is going to be a battle.
February 20th, 2019 at 8:21 PM ^
I’m sure if we lost Iggy or Matthews, you would say we actually got better because Livers is so good. Get the fuck out of here. Losing the unquestioned second best player on your team who averages 17 points per game does not make you a tougher team to beat. That is an awful take and you should feel awful about it.
Also, who said I was going to freak out if it was close? Just because you’re a pussy when it comes to Michigan basketball doesn’t mean I am. I have a prediction on the way I think the game will go. It will either go that way or it will be closer than I think or we will lose. I don’t need to freak out if it doesn’t go the way I want. I’m not a whiny bitch
February 21st, 2019 at 12:06 PM ^
The last line in your post would seem to contradict everything that came before it?
Seriously, are you sure you are not a whiny bitch?
If not, are you like 12 years old? That is a hilarious post.
February 20th, 2019 at 3:17 PM ^
It occurred to me the other day that Simpson might someday be the coach at Michigan. Then I thought he might be the next coach at Michigan.
February 20th, 2019 at 9:27 AM ^
As long as he's not on the cover.

Does Rosenberg have any new books lately that we can spam hate review on Amazon?

Those were hilarious. Didn't he cry about that one time? Like actually cry?
February 20th, 2019 at 9:45 AM ^
This. He tried to position himself as a martyr against internet mobs. "THIS IS MY LIFE'S WORK! HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO MEEE??!!" While he makes shit up in order to better himself at the expense of others.
February 20th, 2019 at 9:40 AM ^
Sorry, my pitchfork is still firmly in my hand when it comes to that bag of douche.

I was going to comment on the great article, but given the atmosphere here, I'll go with another statement: Somehow I would love to see UM play Duke this year. I think it would be fascinating to see how they defend Zion and the gang.
February 20th, 2019 at 12:20 PM ^
I agree with you.....if it's on Monday night in Minneapolis. Otherwise, I'd rather wait.
February 20th, 2019 at 10:39 AM ^
This is awesome:
"When his wife, Kathleen, wanted him to autograph a basketball for his own doctor, Beilein made her go through the university's compliance office."
February 20th, 2019 at 10:42 AM ^
Rosenberg had it in for RR from the very beginning because he didn't get the favored media insider access to the program that he'd enjoyed while Carr was HC. If RR had kissed Rosenberg's ass a little, things probably would have gone differently, at least with respect to Stretchgate.
February 20th, 2019 at 10:59 AM ^
Feel free to leave a review for Rosenberg's book as well.
