”Yow. Some serious news out of Michigan State:

What was billed as maybe a dislocated finger for Nick Ward is now known to be a hairline fracture in his hand. Ward is out for an unknown amount of time. MSU says it hopes he will return before the end of the season.”

Gotta think he’ll miss the first matchup on the 24th

No, it isnt.  I wish there was a world where someone didn’t have to point this out, but unfortunately it is factually correct.  People need to be constantly reminded of this though, so that it hopefully discourages it in the future.  I feel bad for the kid, not the school.

He is a Grade A asshole, yes.  But there are no reports - ZERO REPORTS - that he abused, assaulted, or otherwise talked meanly to any women.  So assigning him that blame is complete bullshit.  We wouldn't stand for that if a women accused us of it, nor should we stand for men falsely associating others.  Have an issue with the players all you want, just make sure its for a valid reason.

Personally, I feel bad for most players that get injured out of games.  Ward is part of the 'most', in this case.  He's an asshole, but I wanted him to get posterized by Teske...

What about Ward is an asshole? I'm pretty sure Zavier and him are friends.

Don't get what happens in the arena confused with what happens in real life. The nicest kid I ever knew in college (4.0 GPA, never swore, never drank, treated women with immense respect, great team captain, and a national championship/borderline Olympian) was thought to be the biggest asshole on our team because of his athletic perception - he liked to celebrate when he won (which was pretty much all the time). They thought he was a cocky douche and an asshole, which was far from the truth.

I wouldn't say Ward is an asshole because he got in Matthews face. Just like opposing fans shouldnt say Iggy is an asshole just because he likes to celebrate, etc

Bummer for the guy. I can't imagine him being back against us next Sunday. As with all injuries, I hope he heals up quickly.

Smart move IMO. If you break your hand, you can’t get your ankles broken again. In all seriousness it sucks that happened. Always feel for players when it happens right before post season play. Hopefully he can come back

Google says it’s around a ~3 week recovery. So if things go really well, he could be back for our game against them in East Lansing. 4 weeks would have him miss the conference tournament. 5 weeks and he’d miss the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament

I had a hairline fracture in my hand and was in a cast for six weeks.

It was pretty obvious to me he had broken his hand the way it was bothering him after they took him out.

A few classy posts combined with the expect dick posts.  Larry Nassau has nothing to do with msu basketball and if you believe that you’re a simpleton

kid is a college athlete and it’s in poor form to applaud a possible season-ending injury. MSU was already down one starter — you need it to be 2/5 to feel good about your chances?  If so, you’d be losing to a dominant team in the tourney  anyway. Root for your team.   I doubt b ___ would endorse that type of loser’s mentality.   Weak sauce and bad sportsmanship

At 22-3, Michigan isn’t afraid of playing a team that hasn’t beat them since Gavin Schilling and Eron Harris were in the team. MSU should definitely worry about beating Michigan whether they have Wars or not. MSU should also worry about now Winston will get 100% of the scoring done (as that’s what they will need to do if Wars is out) with Simpson owning him and drinking his milkshake

I’m seeing some speculation that he pulled a Branden Dawson and punched something at half.  I wasn’t watching super close but there didn’t appear to be anything mentioned about it during the first half.

This is big. MSU still has Tillman and Goins, plus Kithier has been pretty decent as a freshman so they have some depth. But they start and like to play two bigs so only having Kithier off the bench is not going to go well for them.

Tillman will be the guy expected to replace Ward. He has pretty similar numbers when looking at Torvik but he only plays 50% of minutes and his usage is a lot lower than Ward's. I really don't see how MSU gets consistent non Winston scoring now.

Doesn't it seem like most of Tillman's points come on put backs? Doesn't look like they have anyone to replace Ward as a true scoring threat in the post. I'm guessing Ward will be out at least through the B1G tourney. He hasn't done much of note against UM, and I'd have faith Teske would match up well with him, but this is a major blow to Sparty.
