OT: Happy Valentine's Day Posbang

Submitted by boliver46 on February 14th, 2019 at 1:17 PM

Today I find myself with my heart very full.

A loving wife who I dote on, and who (somehow??) also dotes on me.

Our eldest son (13) is having his first Valentine's Day with his very first girlfriend...and I am living vicariously through this young man today...

I know CSB and all that, but I thought spreading a little bit of positivity can't hurt!

This is a day to let your special someone know that you love them and appreciate them and are happy they are in your life.

OR for those of you who celebrate Singles Awareness Day, maybe it means wearing all black, watching sappy movies, eating multiple boxes of chocolate that you bought yourself, doing shots of Tequila, and maybe crying.....a lot.

OR maybe it's somewhere in between for you.

IDK - just felt compelled to post and wish the best for everyone today!

Besides....

Who doesn't love a good Bang? :)

Dammit.

Won't let me edit OP that had a nice photo ruined.

Just for that, here is something snarky since apparently I am not allowed to be nice. /sVDay.jpg

I'm thankful that my wedding anniversary essentially buried this day for the two of us.  But hey, if you and your significant other still get something out of it, that's great.

I remember absolutely despising this day for the last 2 years before we got married because she was expecting a proposal.  It's hard to describe the feeling when you drop $200 on dinner just to see her crying in the car on the way home.

I guess I should clarify.  We are many happy years in now, but since we got married we go all out on the anniversary, and we pretty much ignore valentines day (cards, chocolate, but no big gifts/dinner).  The story about valentines day leading up to marriage was meant to be humorous.

Been divorced for 4+ years. Don't regret it at all.  Recently came to the conclusion that I'm better off not in a relationship based on the whack jobs I usually end up with. Told my kids Happy Valentine's Day on the way to school.  That's everyone I need to say it to.

Darkstar - this is my second marriage.

I felt much the same as you - especially after some of the things my ex did.

I wasn't looking for anything, and my "mythical unicorn 2nd wife" practically fell into my lap by accident.

Don't lose hope, my friend!

Funny.  I've had 2 women tell me that in the past year - both were with their boyfriends at the time.

All good though. If I find her great. If it never happens I'm really enjoying the ability to do whatever I want whenever I want - most of the time - 1st priority is being a parent.

By "fell into your lap" it wasn't because you paid $20 for it was it?

Been divorced for 15 years and 6 years......   #3 isn't my wife, but we've been together for 6 years and I am able to do what i want, when i want.... as is she.   Once her kid is out of the house we might get married, but maybe not.

I always tell her she means too much to me to marry.... when i marry someone they turn into a cheating whore and I wouldn't want to do that to her.

Sounds like your priorities are spot on, things happen when they happen.

V-Tine's day is for bourbon.  cheers and Na Zdrowie!

We're celebrating over the weekend, but Mrs. Perkis is going out with her friends tonight. She's a teacher and for whatever reason the county is taking tomorrow off for President's Day instead of on Monday. So, I will be staying home by myself and making the one thing I always want to make for dinner but she won't ever eat for as long as she lives: meatloaf.

Seems very anti-Valentines Day to make and eat something I know my wife will never eat, but I don't get it. It's literally cheese, meat and ketchup. And I'm putting bacon in it. What's not to love?

^ This. Mom's meatloaf was good, but Dad's was better: extra savory (I wish I knew what he put in it), chunks of onions, strips of bacon on top, and slathered in BBQ sauce. Served with garlic mashed, corn on the cob, and a cold beer (or the cheap red jug wine he used to bring back from California, which was delicious.)

Sometimes I really miss the Old Man - and I REALLY miss his cooking!

Your wife is going out for a girl's night on Valentine's day?

Guessing if you were the one going out leaving her home alone - she would NOT be happy.

My friend's friend used to make a killing with married women out for drinks on Valentine's Day.  As someone whose ex-wife was one of those women, I hope your situation turns out better.

She’s not working tomorrow. I am. That’s really the difference. If neither of us were working tomorrow we’d probably do something together. But it would be to just spend time together, not because it’s Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t really mean much to me, anyway. Only reason it matters to me at all is because it matters to her. Otherwise it’s just another day.

in December i had to put my 8.5 year old Labrador Charlie to sleep.  i was devastated.  this past Saturday i picked up my new bundle of joy Merlin who is now only 7.5 weeks old.  So i guess Merlin is a bit of a valentine's day gift to myself.20190210_131850resized.jpg

I’ve got an 8 year old lab and a 4 year old mastiff. Both are in good health but I’m terrified of that day when it comes. I had to put three family dogs to sleep when I was growing up, and I wasn’t even at the vet when it happened. These dogs are the first ones I’ve ever had where I felt like they were my dogs.

Some of the worst days of my life have been when I’ve had to say goodbye to my dogs, but the happiness they bring to your life far outweighs the pain of one day losing them.

Hope you enjoy your day with Merlin, and that he has a long, happy and healthy life.

charlie was the first dog that was wholly mine versus a family dog even if the dogs growing up were sort of my domain.  he started having massive seizures at the beginning of November due to a fast growing brain tumor and by mid-december they were coming hourly even with massive amounts of prednizone and barbiturates. through the years, i've had to put multiple dogs down due to old age at 13 or 14 but not at 8.5 years old.  it was the most difficult thing i have ever had to do but it was something i couldn't keep putting him through.

My mate and I are going to dinner either tomorrow or Sunday. I also bought her a Game of Thrones tank that says "Mother of Dragons." We like the show (who doesn't?) and call our twins dragons sometimes. I also want to have sex with Daenerys.

You are wrong. The show is perfection. I am so glad the show is ahead of the books. The book snobs ruined some experiences for those who haven't read them. I fail to see how they will struggle to finish the series. I am so looking forward to seeing this thing finish. I am upset that it's almost over, but am dying to see the end.
