Meet & Greet at Spring Game?

Submitted by Ibow on February 11th, 2019 at 8:00 AM

The thread started a day or so ago re the etiquette of getting autographs and taking pictures reminded me again of the Spring Game.

Late last winter there was talk of maybe there being the possibility of a “meet and greet” either before or after the Spring Game. Obviously the game was cancelled last year but does anyone know if there’s been any more talk of that for this coming year? Thanks.

I would guess, No. Too many creepy guys who are obsessed with college athletes. Kids suffer because Adam and Jimmy want to bull charge over kids, to get a selfie with a player and an autograph.

Funny, my daughter is in London with her mom, and they went to the BAFTAS yesterday to try to get a glimpse of her favorite actress, Cate Blanchett. The head of security heard that it was her birthday and put her right at the front of the red carpet line and she got to see the parade of actors, royalty and whatever--Spike Lee, Melissa McCarthy, buncha folks including Cate.

But there were a group of professional autograph seekers who not only bullrushed the front of the line every time someone famous came through but actually ran down the line doing that repeatedly every time the actor moved on, sometimes getting several autographs. It's a shame because meeting the people you admire and getting a chance to talk to them can be really meaningful, especially for kids.

Yeah... I’d agree. A guy asks about the possibility of getting an autograph or pic for his grandkids and suddenly he’s creepy, trying to sell the pics or autographs, wants to bolster the looks/image of his man cave, on & on.

Lots of paranoia here. Relax a little boys. Some people just enjoy their kids & grandkids.

And to think we legalized pot in this state.

I haven't heard any details yet other than the date, which was 4/13 per my calendar.

I just hope we get better weather, although spring in Michigan can either be idyllic and picturesque or it can be a muddy, soggy nightmare. We've definitely had both scenarios.

Which is exactly what it would be for our grandkids... the coolest thing in the world. For one in particular who knows every player & their stats. The kid is only 10 and just immerses himself in Big football and basketball.

Last year, prior to the SMU game, we were milling around watching the players warm up. He yelled to Winovich and Winovich gave him the thumbs up. The kid looked at me with the biggest grin ever - just thrilled.

But "kids" certainly need an adult with them to get to the autograph line.

And there is a new line of attack where adult collectors/sellers enlist their kids to get that autograph for them.

The whole practice is so slimy these days.  Cue up the video of someone yelling f-bombs at Jordan Speith in front of a bunch of youngsters when he wouldn't keep signing at a golf event last year.  F-bombs because they didn't get a golfer's autograph.

Shameful.

Blame Ebay and others.

Any sort of meet and greet/autograph/picture station has to be approved by one guy only-Jim Harbaugh.  He sets the rules, regulations and player availability to fans.

Players give more than enough of their time to fans as it is.

Generally if you want to run into dudes do something positive like volunteer at Mott or attend charity functions guys get involved with like the dance contest thing.
