MBB throwback jersey??

This was spotted at the B1G shop but you can’t click or buy it currently.

A 1989 fauxback (Michigan did not have a Maize jersey in 1988-89).

being that it’s Maize and not white, I expect this to be worn against state on 2/24.

How am I sure? It’s the 1989 National Champions 30th anniversary.

It isn't the best Michigan basketball jersey, but it sure as hell beats these maize out uniforms. They would have been so much better if just the lettering and numbers were blue.

So I really loved the 80s basketball uniforms when I was a kid; the side panels on the shorts were/are awesome. Some of the features, like the large block M on the front, have aged oddly, and they are distinctly a shorter-shorts fashion (which means that they will look better with recent uniform cuts) without side panels on the jerseys.

Thus, this is very interesting to me. It's a change from going with the white throwbacks, which hasn't always worked (the Adidas throwbacks from a couple of years ago looked sharp, except that they incorrectly made the M white on the blue side panel of the home unis--a startling change from the original uniform).

The real question: What pattern do they use for the shorts? There are three options:
1. Take the original blue short with white side panels and flip blue color to maize, and the maize stripes to blue, keeping the side panels white with a blue M.
2. Take the original white short, and basically do a color fill on all white portions to maize, keeping the blue panel with the maize M.
3. Do some weird design that is dissimilar from both the white and blue shorts, such as eliminating the side panel.

The jerseys pictured use white numbers, which evokes the blue uniforms from 1989; since that is the uniform worn in both Final Four games, I lean toward option 1, with a white side panel on the shorts and a blue block M. Not sure how good that will look, and if I'm wrong I'm just fine with that.

These pics of the jersey look sharp.

They weren't on M-den before. They have, probably within the last couple of hours, been unveiled as a "pre-order" item with an expected shipping date of February 15.

Here.

I'm still waiting for them to sell the blue hockey jerseys with maize script, which have become my favorite blue hockey jerseys of all time. Saw them in person Friday, and they look incredible.

They should of wore the White jerseys or Blue from 89, but I get the style to honor the 30th

anniversary of the title.

interested to see the style of shorts for that game ! Wonder if Rumeal Robinson will actually show up ?

Maybe someone could help me and post the picture, but does anyone remember during the adidas when MDen was selling blue pinstripe basketball jerseys with a script Michigan on the front? I bought one cause they were some of the best alternates I had ever seen and then we just never wore them in a game? They actually might not have even been made for the basketball team. So bizarre

These alternates are nice but fwiw my absolute favorite basketball jersey is the throwbacks we wore in 13 against Penn State. Such a weird game to wear them for but they were absolutely gorgeous and I'm so mad they were never for sale

I love them. There is an NCAA rule that basketball numbers need to be centered on the front of the uniform but I guess there are exceptions. They allowed us to wear almost this exact template a few years ago under adidas, but sparty was forced to alter their throwbacks to move the number to the center, not sure what the difference was...

I'd get a shirt if it were gray (spare me the "we have never had gray jerseys" response, Devoter guy), blue, or white.

Looking forward to seeing these - don't really like the white numbers, but I can live with them.

Like SRJK, I'm also curious to see what they do with the shorts and those side panels with the block M were classics.  The trim that runs alongside the panels and flares down to the shorts' hems should be blue-white-blue to match the trim on the jerseys.  As far as the panels themselves, they almost assuredly won't be maize, so you could do either blue field with a maize M or white with a blue M.

My guess is that the panel will be the former - blue field with maize M.  Here's why:

Both the old-school home white and road blues had a "fourth stripe" to bridge from the trim to the short panels.  The white uniforms went blue-maize-blue trim, then a white gap stripe, and then the blue panel.  The blue uniforms had maize-blue-maize trim, then a blue gap stripe, and then the white panel.

These maize throwbacks have a blue-white-blue trim.  The gap stripe has to be either maize or white to contrast with the inner blue stripe.  Also, the shorts panel has never been the same color as the center stripe of the trim, so since the trim center color is white, that pushes me towards using blue as the field color for the shorts panels.
