Meta: Highest # of upvotes per MGoPost within thread?

Submitted by rob f on January 31st, 2019 at 8:01 PM

Earlier today, MGoUser "viciousid" was the first to respond in the  "Beilein's Response to Crowd Chant at OSU Game" https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/beilein%27s-response-crowd-chant-osu-game

As of a few minutes ago, his net upvote total stood at 101.  Does anyone have any idea what might be the record # of upvotes anyone has ever received to a response?  Has anyone ever reached 1000? How about 500, maybe?  I'm pretty sure I've seen at least a few who have received over 200 upvotes back in the days of MGoBlog 2.0, but not since.

The post this afternoon by "viciousid", IMO,  is clearly outstanding and deserving of every possible upvote.  If you haven't yet seen it, please take a look and give it some consideration.

One comes to mind - when Nebraska joined the conference and we got a long OT post from a Husker fan. Top comment was something like "Can we send them back yet?" I thought that had 200+ easy.

My personal record was well over 200 on a comment.  I don't remember the comment, Florida was announcing a number of suspensions, and it was right around the whole McElwain/Shark photo thing.

My comment was "Wow, they're dropping faster than McElwain's pants at an aquarium"

The timing was enough that it was very popular and it got a lot of upvotes.

Is the board ever going to back to the format where we can see the number of downvoted and not just the net result of upvotes vs downvotes?  I feel like a large majority of the board would agree that was a better feature

Unless I'm mistaken the record still belongs to Chunkums for a gif made in 2009 that recreated a 16-bit RPG battle with Tate Forcier and Rich Rod. He had just 2 in our old point system where you had to spend a point to upvote somebody and so many people wanted to upvote it that Brian turned off that rule, made the GIF into its own front page post, and linked the comment with a directive for the newly liberated mobs to upvote it. Old points clear after a while so I have no idea what it got up to but it was over 2500 when I wrote about it in dear diary the next week.

I don't know if another comment ever passed that, or even came close, but I doubt it. I do know that the comment led directly to the first-ever posbang thread, since those would have been useless before it.

Alas, the board switch made old vote totals go away, so it is no longer possible to document. The MGoHOF has (some) of the older high-vote total posts, though. There are some more recent ones that took place pre-changeover that got high totals that aren't documented.

There was also the "karma period" where the max upvote was 5.  There might've been some whoppers there that maxed out and weren't recorded.  The benefit of that system was automatically hiding comments by people who were consistently...not nice (cleaning up language in deference here).

I believe that period coincided with the RichRod flame wars so there was some STUFF going on as well.  "I got you karma for ya right here, man."

I don’t know about most upvotes, but the funniest thread belongs to Champeen. Almost 4 years ago he was inquiring about some omg shirtless pics for his “friend.” I was rolling at work!

I got 133 upvotes for a quip about the guy sending an e-mail to Harbaugh in the Josh Gattis hiring post.

I also had negative 100+ for telling everyone to stop posting about the Erik Swenson thing... apparently I was a day or two early on that sentiment.

Good times all 'round.

I think we should sponsor an all paid for trip to Bolivia for whoever gets the most up votes for the year.
