Meta: Highest # of upvotes per MGoPost within thread?
Earlier today, MGoUser "viciousid" was the first to respond in the "Beilein's Response to Crowd Chant at OSU Game" https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/beilein%27s-response-crowd-chant-osu-game
As of a few minutes ago, his net upvote total stood at 101. Does anyone have any idea what might be the record # of upvotes anyone has ever received to a response? Has anyone ever reached 1000? How about 500, maybe? I'm pretty sure I've seen at least a few who have received over 200 upvotes back in the days of MGoBlog 2.0, but not since.
The post this afternoon by "viciousid", IMO, is clearly outstanding and deserving of every possible upvote. If you haven't yet seen it, please take a look and give it some consideration.

It's likely recent due to board inflation.

One comes to mind - when Nebraska joined the conference and we got a long OT post from a Husker fan. Top comment was something like "Can we send them back yet?" I thought that had 200+ easy.
January 31st, 2019 at 8:26 PM ^
Lol. That was me. Yeah, it was around I think 170 last I saw it.
It was a girl who seemed incredibly ditzy asking why guys at the bar are so lame when they try to buy her a drink. The thread was locked immediately after my comment so I got all the upvotes.
I just tried searching google for it and came up empty.

It's in the "100 +1s" section of the MGoHOF. Linked here.
Tragically, the vote totals are gone. But I remember seeing a ridiculously high number of upvotes.
February 1st, 2019 at 10:16 AM ^
I never knew the MGoHOF existed until your post. I spent a good amount of time perusing that section, mostly in the RDT thread.
February 1st, 2019 at 6:12 AM ^
The response was perfect, but I was very proud of the board as a whole that day. No one else posted on that thread for the longest time. There were no “login to upvote” or “let’s also give back ____.”
It looked like art. One perfect response with no other noise.

My personal record was well over 200 on a comment. I don't remember the comment, Florida was announcing a number of suspensions, and it was right around the whole McElwain/Shark photo thing.
My comment was "Wow, they're dropping faster than McElwain's pants at an aquarium"
The timing was enough that it was very popular and it got a lot of upvotes.

Can it be me right now?
HAHAHA
January 31st, 2019 at 8:32 PM ^
No, you silly muppet.
January 31st, 2019 at 8:12 PM ^
I believe I hold the record.
January 31st, 2019 at 8:18 PM ^
I definitely hold some sort of record here boys. Right? Who loves them some Mineral King? Gimme them upvotes boys! Let’s shatter all the records.
In all seriousness though. I love you guys!
January 31st, 2019 at 8:32 PM ^
We love you too, Shea. Get it done.
January 31st, 2019 at 9:10 PM ^
If you were really Shea, you would get 100s of up votes. But pretending to be Shea will get you a lot of down votes.
January 31st, 2019 at 10:12 PM ^
My name is not Shea. Not sure how many more times I need to say that. Try reading through my posting history ya toof.
January 31st, 2019 at 10:14 PM ^
You're a legend in your own mind.

Not sure about upvotes, but didn’t SomeWittyName win for downvotes?
January 31st, 2019 at 9:05 PM ^
Her analysis was actually accurate (Ulizio starting is a bad sign). She definitely helped dig her own grave as the thread went on, but I felt bad that she got as buried as she did in the end.
February 1st, 2019 at 9:09 AM ^
Yes it was accurate.
I just clicked around and found it from back then. I now recall that when it happened. I really didn't see the problem with her original post. After she got some backlash it went south in a hurry though.
January 31st, 2019 at 8:30 PM ^
Is the board ever going to back to the format where we can see the number of downvoted and not just the net result of upvotes vs downvotes? I feel like a large majority of the board would agree that was a better feature
January 31st, 2019 at 9:13 PM ^
FWIW, I upvoted this. Which means either that 8 other people like your post or maybe that 572 people like your post and 563 people hate it. The world may never know...
January 31st, 2019 at 9:47 PM ^
When do you see upvotes? Is there a point total before you become part of the gang?
January 31st, 2019 at 10:13 PM ^
I just broke 400 and can’t see them yet. I’m hoping the cutoff is 500.
January 31st, 2019 at 10:22 PM ^
I believe it is, because I definitely remember a string of awful posts being made by users with 500-750ish points a year or two ago that resulted in people wanting to move the cutoff to 1000.
February 1st, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
I thought it was a 1000pt threshold to be able to vote until I got there and still haven't seen an up/down button since the site change. How is the voting privilege determined these days?
February 1st, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
That’s disappointing.
February 1st, 2019 at 12:01 AM ^
Also nice would be if they fix the dang css so it properly shows which posts I voted on. Fergodsakes!
February 1st, 2019 at 5:18 AM ^
I'm just trying to figure out how to post a gif. I could have have hundreds of upvotes myself when Jordan Poole beat houston with an awesome "Last Samurai" gif.
but I couldn't get it done.
February 1st, 2019 at 11:07 AM ^
In Chrome it's super easy: right click, copy on gif, right click, paste into comment.
Don't need to mess with the URL or source code or anything.
February 1st, 2019 at 1:25 PM ^
That worked. I did not get a paste option when I right-clicked, but the standard CTL-V paste worked.

I thought we were not supposed to talk about....those things we were not supposed to talk about???
January 31st, 2019 at 8:34 PM ^
We're not supposed to talk about shmpoints, but upovtes are ok, right?

Do not speak of those whom of which we do not speak

Did we pass the OT: deadline. I guess that OT rule is only during football season. Now it is free style posts!
January 31st, 2019 at 8:42 PM ^
Unless I'm mistaken the record still belongs to Chunkums for a gif made in 2009 that recreated a 16-bit RPG battle with Tate Forcier and Rich Rod. He had just 2 in our old point system where you had to spend a point to upvote somebody and so many people wanted to upvote it that Brian turned off that rule, made the GIF into its own front page post, and linked the comment with a directive for the newly liberated mobs to upvote it. Old points clear after a while so I have no idea what it got up to but it was over 2500 when I wrote about it in dear diary the next week.

I don't know if another comment ever passed that, or even came close, but I doubt it. I do know that the comment led directly to the first-ever posbang thread, since those would have been useless before it.
January 31st, 2019 at 9:08 PM ^
Chunkums is legend.
January 31st, 2019 at 9:34 PM ^
Alas, the board switch made old vote totals go away, so it is no longer possible to document. The MGoHOF has (some) of the older high-vote total posts, though. There are some more recent ones that took place pre-changeover that got high totals that aren't documented.
February 1st, 2019 at 8:58 AM ^
There was also the "karma period" where the max upvote was 5. There might've been some whoppers there that maxed out and weren't recorded. The benefit of that system was automatically hiding comments by people who were consistently...not nice (cleaning up language in deference here).
I believe that period coincided with the RichRod flame wars so there was some STUFF going on as well. "I got you karma for ya right here, man."
February 1st, 2019 at 9:06 AM ^
That’s one feature that got wiped out with an old system crash; it really made things readable. But the 5 vote limit was a bit low.
January 31st, 2019 at 8:47 PM ^
I don’t know about most upvotes, but the funniest thread belongs to Champeen. Almost 4 years ago he was inquiring about some omg shirtless pics for his “friend.” I was rolling at work!
January 31st, 2019 at 8:50 PM ^
Pretty sure Stephenrjking picked up 20 million points from a bugged post somewhere which takes the pure point award.
January 31st, 2019 at 8:59 PM ^
I can't see them, but I'd imagine it doesn't belong to me
January 31st, 2019 at 9:01 PM ^
I got 133 upvotes for a quip about the guy sending an e-mail to Harbaugh in the Josh Gattis hiring post.
I also had negative 100+ for telling everyone to stop posting about the Erik Swenson thing... apparently I was a day or two early on that sentiment.
Good times all 'round.

I think we should sponsor an all paid for trip to Bolivia for whoever gets the most up votes for the year.
January 31st, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
You would be safe from that prize Herr Crapitan.

I got 40 upvotes once and the screenshot is still on my parents' fridge

My ~25yr old nephew Scottie still lives in his mom and dad's basement, an arrangement likely to continue indefinitely.
Are you possibly my nephew?
