Here are Some Pertinent Tweets:

Sources: Full players involved in Knicks/Mavericks deal:

Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., Courtney Lee, Trey Burke to Dallas.

Dennis Smith Jr., Wes Matthews, DeAndre Jordan and likely first-round draft pick compensation to New York.

Sources: All-Star Kristaps Porzingis is planning to inform the Dallas Mavericks his intent is to sign the qualifying offer in restricted free agency this summer.

New York has agreed with Dallas on trade that includes Kristaps Porzingis, Courtney Lee, Tim Hardaway Jr., for Wesley Matthews, Dennis Smith Jr. and DeAndre Jordan, league sources tell ESPN. Players and agents are being notified of particulars. Deal may include more draft assets.

The Knicks could be staring at $74.6M in projected cap space for next season. That would be good enough for 2 max slots.

I would circle DeAndre Jordan and Wes Matthews as two potential buyout players to keep an eye on. Players need to be waived by March 1 to become playoff eligible.

Also a knicks fan, and hate losing KP, but he wanted out.  Also, per a tweet I just read and am too lazy to embed:

"The Knicks could be staring at $74.6M in projected cap space for next season. That would be good enough for 2 max slots."

Granted - who the hell is gonna want to sign with them?  If they get lucky and can draft Ja Morant/Zion/Barrett, maybe then they can lure something....but as long as Dolan runs the team, they're a miserable organization.

Good player? Most teams don't give up "good players" if they are in the playoff hunt or have a good nucleus. When a player holds you over a barrel, you get disgruntled players, expiring contracts, or draft picks. They got a little of both. I believe their hope was to keep him, and build around him, but he obviously gave them the opinion that he didn't want to be there anymore.

Sure - again would love for KD to come to NY, and there is definitely smoke out there that it's a possibility.  I just can't see him leaving the Warriors.  Unless, he and his good friend Kyrie have spoken ahead of time, and will join forces.  Them two and two top ten picks..could be something.

No serious big time player is ever going to come to the Knicks now. They're a mess and the league should take the team away from Dolan.

I don't think ZIon will be Lebron but if any team can truly ruin his career or waste his talents its the Knicks. They'll turn him into late-career fat Shawn Kemp in no time.

It's all because Knicks games are a way to show off your money. For fabulously wealthy NY people, particularly Wall Street and hedge fund types its a way to tell the rest of the city that you have too much money - so much that you can spend  $1,500 for a ticket (plus $100+ for an authentic jersey) for your 12 year old kid who is now asleep in the seat next to you while the Knicks play Lebron and the Lakers (seriously - next time you watch a Knicks game see if they show a rich kid in $750 seats who is dead asleep - its not uncommon. I mean you can make the joke that the Knicks play put him to sleep but if I'm the kid's dad I wake his ass up, this is costing me serious money). It's like when the high-society snobs in Europe used to go to the opera just to be seen even though they didn't know shit about the opera.

And people like this are the reason the ticket prices never go down and why it still costs a normal person's month of rent to sit anywhere that would be considered decent seats. And this despite the fact that the Knicks are MISERABLE and now you can't even see Porzingis. These people have turned MSG into a mausoleum. An MSG full of real Knicks fans wouldn't put up with this: they'd be mercilessly booing Dolan, Fizdale and the front office every night. But they can't get in the door or are exiled to the upper deck. The old garden was BRUTAL.

I like seeing Michigan players do well in the NBA, but I haven't watched a full NBA game since the last Piston's championship runs with Ben Wallace and that long armed dude Tayshawn Prince.  ...and it was when the original bad boys made their run before that.

I did watch 5 minutes of a Pistons game after they got Blake Griffin.

Trey is doing well after struggling alot his first few years.  Has defensive issues, but can score as we're used to.  Tim is the better pro IMO, and can be a successful player a team where he's not the best player, but on the knicks, he was the highest paid player with a massive contract that was 100% him being overpaid.

I don't think he goes out of his way to make sure everyone knows that he doesn't care about the NBA; he just doesn't care much about it. That's fine, not everyone is going to have mindspace for every sport. It's different than telling everyone that you don't care about their sport in threads that are written about that sport.

FWIW I'm not the hugest NBA fan but I've flipped on tonight's Sixers-Warriors game and it's a blast.

Not too familiar with either team, but a cursory glance suggests that Trey will be in a co-PG situation with JJ Barea, while THJ will be... stuck behind Luka Doncic in the old Wes Matthews spot. Am I reading this wrong?

Agreed.  I think THJ will now assume his best possible position as the 3rd best player on a good team. He will benefit from having more open looks, spot up corner 3s, less having to create, and won't have to be as high volume as he was in NYK.

Trey will do well to have 3 high quality options to deal to as well.  Both are best with more efficiency and less volume, which is pretty much a given with Luca and eventually KP.

THJ will make this work. Trey has 3 months to audition for this spot on a decent team. No more ups and downs. If he can prove himself efficient and consistent he'll stick in the league for years to come. If he can't capitalize on this opportunity his long-term NBA future is probably not likely.

As noted below, Burke is the starting point guard, though Doncic handles the ball so much Burke will probably be more of a shooter and secondary ball handler than someone who initiates the offense extensively.  Hardaway feels like a great fit here; he'll get some open looks, can help on defense a bit, and generally be the B+ NBA player he should be without being burdened with some of the "make a play" aspects his game isn't great at.

You are assuming a player will sign a second contract with the team they are drafted by.  There needs to be a bigger financial benefit for a player to re-up.  Right now it's just 1 extra year and a little bit more annually.  That number is going to need to be 50-100mil for players to really want to stay.
