Walk on DB Hunter Reynolds put on scholarship

Per 247, 3rd walk on to receive a scholarship recently joining Brendan White and Louis Grodman.

Reynolds was named the 2018 Scout Team Defensive Player of the Year at the Michigan Football Award Show back in December.

They're coming from the guys who aren't enrolled this semester. Guys who transferred or left for the NFL after fall semester (Singleton, Solomon, Gary, Higdon, Bush, Gentry, etc.) are no longer on scholarship, so Michigan has to use all 85. These walk-ons are simply getting Michigan back to 85 for this semester, and then most/all of them will have to pay their own way in Fall 2019.

Something something doesn’t Harbaugh know how many scholarships he has {wrings hands, clutches pearls}...this isn’t the SEC...we’re better than that...

Pretty awesome, I played college football with his dad and saw his dad at Thanksgiving.

Really happy about this.  Hunter comes from a great family.

You people do realize these scholarships are for Winter semester ONLY.  These do not effect next year's scholarship availability whatsoever.   These are basically filling in for the guys that declared early for the draft and the number that we are under to end the year minus the EE's.

The other two are seniors. They're gone by next fall and this is a way to reward them, so it doesn't make a difference.

Reynolds I'm not so sure. Football is a head count sport and you get 85 per academic year. I believe this replaces a player who left school already and Reynolds isn't counted against 2019-'20 unless he earns a scholarship again in fall. But this is a player who's already seen the field and probably would have been at least a 3-star if he was scouted properly. They really like him. I wouldn't discount the possibility of Reynolds being a scholarship player next year regardless.

Via a guy with ties to the program who was right about some things last year, Reynolds is for real. PWO Don Brown find who played at Don Bosco and had a Northwestern offer. Used to be a receiver but switched to defense right when evaluators might have caught him, but a top athlete. Only DB to ever give Tarik Black a game in HS.

That's not how I remember it. I remember I was very high on him and you were not understanding why he was getting some buzz. Your reason (which was a good one), that walk-ons rarely contribute or play any meaningful minutes. This still may be the case with Hunter, I don't believe you were impressed in the HELLO HUNTER thread.

I believe he played against T Black (might have him mixed up with some other Michigan commit) in High School and beat him in an epic game.
