The Ace Pod 1.0: Iggy B and the Murderwolves Comment Count

Seth January 26th, 2019 at 10:29 AM

Ace has been bored so he got some podcasting equipment and answered some reader questions.

SEGMENT ONE: BASKET-SKALL

My solo project can only start one way: by matching each Michigan rotation player to the instrument they’d play in a mid-aughts ska band.

SEGMENT TWO: BASKETBALL

starts at 11:35

Michigan’s late-clock offense has looked funky at times and it looks like that could improve with some shot redistribution—and perhaps a shift in approach as the shot clock winds down. Also, how else can Michigan get more on the offensive end of the floor? (And do they need to?)

SEGMENT THREE: BASKET-CLONES

starts at 22:05

Choosing one player, past or present, from whom to create an entire team of clone-ballers. Trey Burke is a bit short, unfortunately, and the bulk of Beilein’s guys weren’t defensive killers, so I reached back a bit for my selection.

SEGMENT FOUR: HEALTH UPDATE

starts at 27:20

Where I’m at right now, where I’m hoping to be in the short term, and what I’m doing in the meantime.

MUSIC:

  • Intro: “Traveling In Your Mind”—Loyalty Freak Music
  • “Nervous In The Alley”—Less Than Jake
  • “Dave’s Friend”—The Slackers
  • “Road Rash”—Mad Caddies
  • Outro: “I Want It That Way”—Backstreet Boys

This will only cause me to further over-think Michigan basketball by times ten more than I ever have in my life, but well okay. This sounds promising. I will give it a listen when I can walk my dog again after the temperatures get above zero.

Ace, what meaning can we attribute to the color choice of the flag? Yellow orange and green?

Curious. Looks similar to Bob Marley infront of an African flag colors. Is that the parallel?

This podcast has been ridiculously entertaining. Ace, you are a truly unique talent. I look forward to any and every communication from you we can get. They say you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. I already knew you were awesome when you were a regular contributor, but now in your absence your greatness is that much more appreciated.  The difference between you and the cultural icon who dies far too young is that you have a long and bright future in front of you. Be well!

Good point on Matthews not getting to the rim often. I’ve been wondering about this myself. It seems he’s complacent getting to the paint, pivoting around for 2-3 seconds, then putting up his fade.

I’m not a big fan of that approach and considering he’s been nailed with traveling quite a few times, why not go the extra 2 steps, use that 6’6” lengthy frame with a 43” vertical, and at the very least draw some contact.

The man can soar. I’d like to see more of it.

Nice to hear from Ace.

Give me 5 Rudy T's and I'll play ya.  But yes G Rice is the answer.

Do more and more. Start with a pug. build up to the collie-husky I have now.  Makes a HUGE difference in ATTITUDE. and that's where it starts.

Go Blue.

If Beilein gets to work with them for three or four years, I’ll take 5 McGary’s for sheer entertainment value. Might not have the handle or natural 3-pt stroke, but they would be a terror in the paint on both ends of the floor.

Get better, Ace.

Jalen is the only player with the ball-handling skills to play the point and the length to defend 5s. Jalen is the correct answer. NBA Webber was not the same player as UofM Webber. His improved passing and outside shooting in the pros makes it an interesting suggestion. But I would press that 5-Webber team (or 5-Rice) and prevent them from getting the ball up the court.

5 Novaks would be insane. Talk about an aneurysm of leadership.
