New offer: 2020 WR Marvin Harrison, Jr.

Submitted by Magnus on January 23rd, 2019 at 5:12 PM

I'll give you three guesses about who you think Marvin Harrison, Jr.'s dad is.

Michigan just offered him, which I figured for a while would be coming. He goes to Philadelphia (PA) St. Joseph's, which is the same school that Jon Runyan, Jr. attended. Harrison had 50 catches for 725 yards and 8 touchdowns as a sophomore. 247 ranks him as a 4-star, the #3 receiver, and #16 in the 2021 class, although it's still early.

Jim Harbaugh was with the Colts through 1997, and Harrison's dad was drafted in 1996, so they have a little bit of history. He caught 14 touchdowns over those two seasons, though I'm not sure exactly how many came from Harbaugh.

Here's a link to his Hudl (LINK).

Marvin Harrison is one of the most underrated receivers to ever play the game.

He did seem to disappear very quickly after he allegedly shot those guys outside a bar. He seemed like the least likely dude to get caught up in something like that.

In the two seasons they overlapped, Harrison caught 8 and 6 TD passes.  I would assume they all came from Harbaugh.  Those two years saw him gain about 1700 yards receiving.

These may be the most disappointing comments I’ve ever seen on MGoBlog.  You don’t want the coaches to recruit an athlete because of something his parent allegedly did years ago?  Get the fuck over yourselves.  Not everyone gets born into a perfect situation and precisely nobody is perfect.  FFS.

I don’t think Harbaugh and the program he runs get nearly as much credit as they deserve for recruiting kids with good character (and probably weeding out suspect work ethic).

It’s not an accident this program has mostly avoided kids in trouble.  I’m sure Harbaugh does his research.

Evidence shows Marvin Sr to be a good lockeroom influence with discipline and work ethic.

I agree with the logic of your post, though your anger seems a little disproportionate to the situation here.

I also find it amusing, and a little sad, that today it's deemed horrible to judge a man based upon the actions of his father but just fine to do the same based on the actions of his "ancestors".

You're doing an awful lot of projecting there.  I don't think anyone was saying they don't want the coaches to recruit the kid.  Just a lot of people pointing the obvious that his dad, despite being a HOF, likely killed a dude but was never charged for uh....reasons, I guess.

Harrison used to be my favorite football player. I knew nothing about him, and I thought he was.a good guy.

How he was inducted over TO because TO caused superficial issues is one of the most laughable things I've ever seen. There are 3 guys in the NFL hall of fame that are murderers, but TO can't get in first ballot?

I recall a news story about an incident involving Sr. in north Philly, which can be a high crime area.  If he was not prosecuted, it may be because he had a defense under the law, i.e. self defense, defense of others.  That can happen in high crime areas.  I would not paint Sr. with a broad brush unless you know more than that what has been said in this post.  The facts matter.   And as mentioned it has nothing to do with Jr.

I hated Sr. so much when he played; he was Deion Sanders, except on offense.  As soon as he caught the ball, he did one of two things: step out of bounds to avoid a hit, or fall to the turf to avoid a hit.  I think he played close to 15 years without ever being legit tackled.  Knowing now how damaging football can be, I think he was a pretty smart dude more than a chickenshit.

This is still the most impressive catch I've ever seen in a football game:

People talk about Beckhams catch, but this one had so much significance to us Colts fans (not to mention the incredible body control). This was one of the few catches he ever celebrated, and I can't blame him.
