#9 W Gymnastics holds for 28th straight win over MSU

After a.............turbulent week to say the least, the #9 Wolverine Gymnastics team took the Crisler Center stage for the first time in 2019. It was also the B1G opener.

Michigan opened with their rivals from "over there", MSU.

It was a rough meet. There were some falls from both teams, and Michigan posted a very un-Michiganlike 195.975 team score. A season-low team score of 49.150 to start out the meet coupled with some falls on beam and another sub-49 score on the floor added up to the sub-par overall score.

Yes, it is still January but one has to wonder if this past week led to this. Good to see that despite all that, a team WIN was still had.

Michigan took the meet, 195.975-194.050.

Michigan won all 4 events as a team and Wolverines took the individual titles for all 4 events (Emma McLean on vault, freshman Natalie Wojcik on bars and beam, Olivia Karas on floor).

The Wolverines have beaten the Spartans each of the last 28 times the two teams have faced off, dating all the way back to the 2007 season.

Michigan is now 5-2 (1-0 B1G) and will travel to Maryland next Saturday night.

I feel like we grabbed the shovel from Engler and MSU for couple days, but we stood up and corrected it.  Coach Plocki gave interviews, gave her side of the story and owned it.  It wasn't just her.  Seems there were a couple of missteps, WM.

Stark contrast from Sparty.

Engler wanted his shovel back and started digging another hole for himself.  He dug too deep this time. buh bye!

Contrasting example of how to handle a tough, tough situation.

Thanks WD. I was doing my cultural stuff (naked Greek guys at Power Center) but I will be at some of the later gymnastics events. Are you going to the track invitational or watching Bball today?

PSA --- the Simmons-Harvey Big Ten Invitational will be aired from 12-3:30 on the B1G so switch over after basketball or during halftime and timeouts. We're hosting OSU, MSU, PSU, Maryland and Nebraska.

I care about the Women's sports and the Men's non-revenue sports.  I now regret not attending them as an undergrad.  I now don't have the time to follow them myself, so the occasional briefings from WD and others keep me informed.  GO BLUE!
