OSU drops 4th straight Friday night POSBANG

The former #1 team in the country (lol) has now lost to MSU, Rutger, Iowa and Maryland to remain winless this year.

Them beating Maryland would have actually been nice...Maryland is 7-1 in conference, would have given us a cushion if we lose tomorrow.

Maryland is @MSU on Monday.

I never understood that thinking.  Let's see, you can choose between a guaranteed trip to the Big Ten title game and can play a demoralized, season-over OSU team, or you can have nothing guaranteed and have everything on the line against an OSU team which also has everything to play for and is at home?

While I generally agree, I want to point out the obvious: the "just worry about us" approach didn't work out well for us in football. (Of course, fans don't have an impact on games so that's something else entirely.)

If Maryland had converted on the 2 point attempt, Michigan was guaranteed a berth in the Big Ten Championship Game regardless of what happened in The Game.

Even if we had lost in the 2018 Game (in that scenario), we could've at least salvaged the season with a win over Northwestern for our first Big Ten Championship in football since 2004 and a trip to the Rose Bowl against Washington.

I think the OP only mentioned they were #1 as a joke. While they did come in #1 but only only the 1st ranking and only in the NET (Torv/KP/AP had them in the teens I think), the first NET rankings were so wrong that nate silver actually tweeted out how ludicrous he thought it was that OSU was #1.

I will drop this in here. If any of you are still defending Greg Mattison’s move to OSU it is time to stop defending him. He was recently in a bar (San Antonio) with OSU coaches mocking Michigan by yelling “Go Blue” whenever they could while having a few beverages. This has been confirmed by many and most recently by Rivals. So, if you saw my previous posts regarding him you will know why I said F U Mattison!

Oh, by the way, this is the second time he has screwed us. He was offered more money to stay. He was bitching over his role at Michigan and feeling under-appreciated and felt like he had a diminished role. He has turned on us very quickly. All I know is that he is a Buckeye now and fits right in with the assholes. It is time to win and shut them up.

Mattison walked out on his colleagues and players, who are all supposed to be like family, directly to our most hated rival.  It doesn’t get much worse.  He has zero character and nobody should ever trust a man like that.

He gave up a lifetime of being revered in the state of Michigan to likely being an afterthought in Ohio after a few years.  I hope he fails miserably and Michigan gets his sorry ass fired.

I like the new/current staff and I have faith in Coach Harbaugh however . . .

how do you justify replacing Mattison with Durkin as DC?  Mattison's defenses were some of the best in the country.  Those embarassing big plays the defense gave up almost always came after consecutive (quadruple in one case) 3-and-outs by the QB less Hoke offenses.  Defensive stats also suffered from multiple 3-and-outs by the offense.

I cannot explain and will not support the move to OSU but maybe Mattison predicted the year-end collapses based on recruiting, talent development (lack there of in the blowouts), scheme and play calling.  The previous move to ND was also a disappointment.

I am asking because I have no inside information.  Mattison is rational.  Something happened.

don’t have any inside information either, but I’d guess that Harbaugh wanted to bring his guys in to run the show. He may have felt some obligation to Mattison due to family loyalty/recognizing that he is a good coach. Durkin took that same talent and made a top 20 D into a top 10. Brown took that top 10 and turned it to a top 5.

There was nothing special going on.  Mattison was solid, but Harbaugh could get better, so he did.

I think it’s kinda cool that this is one of the  few  coaching changes that pisses Michigan fans off as much as OSU fans

Understood but no one has a top 10 defense when the offense can't hold onto the ball.   I saw no improvement under Durkin that couldn't be attributed to the offense generating first downs. While the offense is gaining first downs, the defensive coaches can actually coach, as in tell the players what to look for on the next set of downs.

2014 S&P Defense #13  Offense #89

2015 S&P Defense #3  Offense #38

While #1 is a nice goal, I would stand with the system that got me #13 given the deficient offense.

I stand with my observation, Mattison appears better than Durkin.
