Hurst and Clark are the only decent D linemen he put into the pros at Michigan. Wormley is average at best. Henry is slightly above average. Taco, Glasgow, Godin, van bergen, roh, Campbell haven’t done anything. No one else did anything. He wasted rashan’s potential. The kid still doesn’t have a single pass rush move to his name.

i wish UM guys success in the pros, but i care much more what they do as a wolverine.  all those guys you mentioned were very good and improved greatly while at UM; with the possible exceptions of gary and campbell.  add winovich to your list too.

This is nothing new, of course. The difference is in the details and the amounts. One thing that is new is that schools have to address NFL jobs in buyout clauses.

I wonder about Partridge's contract. Considering it was renegotiated after flirting with the Bama job offer, I'd expect his buyout to be high.

Agreed.  We only had to get quasi-burned once in our world before incorporating these concepts into certain levels of our organization.

These agreements have to be structured in a reasonable and fair way (as they should be) to be enforceable in our world, but if someone is already thinking about their next jump before they've even started for you, especially to potential competitors, it's certainly better to know now--"know" being a somewhat relative term in this case.

Regardless, finding the balance in managing someone who feels "stuck" in a contractual relationship, be it employee (coach) or student-athlete, is clearly tricky when you're weighing varying perspectives on a new opportunity versus commitments made by each party at the onset of the relationship.

We work hard to support staff who have an opportunity to truly grow and advance when we recognize that those same opportunities for them to do so might not currently exist within our own organization.

Campanile won’t have to pay a buyout if he leaves to become defensive coordinator outside the Big Ten East Division — except Rutgers.

Meaning he actually wants to leave an opening in his contract so he can go to Rutgur at some point.

Unless the BC job opens up, it doesn't make sense for him to leave anyway. He's here to learn at the feet of Don Brown and Harbaugh, and I'd imagine he'd want to be here for at least two years.

curious as to what campanile was making at BC? I was assuming he was going to be a Co-DC/safeties coach and figured he would be closer to $600-$700k....

I mean $415k is still pretty damn good lol

I'd bet a lot he was making less than $415 K.

BC only discloses the salaries of their highest paid employees, currently around $550 K+. No assistants are in that group. And while Campinile had the co-DC title, someone else was DC and presumably above him.

This doesn't seem shocking,  just common sense. It seems like I've heard a few coaches negotiating a special out to go back home to their alma mater. I remember urban was reported years ago to have negotiated special exceptions for Michigan and ND.
