OT: George Campbell (former 5* FSU receiver) enters THE PORTAL
Not that he would have turned out a stud if he stuck with Michigan, but who knows?
I remember feeling miffed when, after he decommitted, he'd release some top-10 and top-5 lists with Michigan nowhere to be seen. It really showed how little verbal commitments mean when someone can go from "committed" to "I'm not even close to considering you."
January 16th, 2019 at 2:23 PM ^
Yes, verbal commitments don't mean much. In other news...
He's just a kid so let's wish him the best.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:04 PM ^
He wanted to be at Michigan. I believe the story was his family had other plans. If there were 10 other schools willing to play ball, so be it. That's not Michigan.
By the time he signed with FSU, they had already figured out he couldn't catch. He wasn't a 5*.
I couldn't figure out why a 6'3 15 yr old who ran a laser timed 4.3 was listed as a WR, S or DE. Later we found out he didn't have hands attached to his wrists. It would be hard to be a diva and play DE. Either way, his decommitment didn't affect us at all.
This recruitment is the reason I wasn't so fucked up over Zach Harrison. I don't understand how you can be that big and fast but still fall in the rankings. It's like there's something they aren't telling us.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:07 PM ^
Yeah, I didn't realize how much of a project ZH is viewed as. That certainly takes the sting away from losing him at the 11th hour.
January 16th, 2019 at 7:32 PM ^
Yeah but Mattison is a good coach. it will be a kick in the balls if zh turns out to be a stud.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:09 PM ^
ZH plays super tall. He is stiff. He needs a ton of work. But damn, he is a lotto ticket. He has an amazing frame and his ceiling is in cloud city.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:14 PM ^
He is a massive project but he wouldn't start here right away hes not a Gary as far as strength and power.
January 16th, 2019 at 7:45 PM ^
Zach Harrison projects to be a better version of Uche. He’ll have to work extremely hard to get where Uche is, but with the right work ethic he could surpass Uche. Hence the reason he’s basically a high 4 star and Uche was a 3 star.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:19 PM ^
You could say the same thing about Ojabo.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
You could say the same thing about a lot of players.
January 16th, 2019 at 8:25 PM ^
He's not a kid he's a grown man.
Best wishes Mr. Campbell.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:23 PM ^
This is very mildly interesting.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:27 PM ^
Even that is a stretch.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:30 PM ^
The gravy threads have lowered the "interesting bar" today.
Contrast is everything in this world...
January 16th, 2019 at 2:36 PM ^
Interestingly, I think Campbell's makes a canned gravy?
January 16th, 2019 at 2:39 PM ^
By George, I think you are correct!
January 16th, 2019 at 2:43 PM ^
Technically it comes in a jar...but I get your point
January 16th, 2019 at 3:20 PM ^
Heinz gravy comes in a jar. Campbell's comes in a can.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:32 PM ^
I stand corrected.....
and....ewwwww
January 16th, 2019 at 6:12 PM ^
And I heard from a friend that it comes out in the shape of the can.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:36 PM ^
The gravy thread is far more interesting than the constant portal threads. The portal sucks. Life was better before I knew it was a thing.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:43 PM ^
Yup. It seems that anytime a guy is in this portal thing, there is a new thread. Are people really checking this portal every day to see if there are new names?
January 16th, 2019 at 2:55 PM ^
And, where is the portal? How does one know when a new player is in there? Does the player's picture appear in the sky like in the Hunger Games?
I am also guessing that the portal is not actually like a thing that a player has go physically stand in, right? That would seem overly burdensome.
January 16th, 2019 at 4:56 PM ^
Is Brandon Peters still on this team or did I miss him entering one of the portals to another dimension?
January 16th, 2019 at 5:07 PM ^
The general thought is that Peters is going to graduate and then transfer so he is eligible immediately. Don’t quote me on this but I believe I heard he’s on track to graduate after the spring or summer.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:07 PM ^
Aren’t we all...
edit: board formatting ruined the joke of this reply to it being a stretch.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
I get it. Also, yes. The indented replies are fucking terrible. I really wish they would implement a quote feature, which would eliminate indented replies. 247 does it well.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:24 PM ^
Getting him to transfer would be gravy.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
Chicken / Turkey / Beef gravy?
January 16th, 2019 at 3:18 PM ^
You mean lumpy gravy with uncooked pasty flour
January 16th, 2019 at 2:24 PM ^
He turned out to be a bust. Glad he went elsewhere.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:28 PM ^
Dude - He had a core injury that has killed his college career. Give the kid a break...
January 16th, 2019 at 2:33 PM ^
The injury sucks for the Campbell, but before he had the injury wasn't it evident that despite being really really fast (4.35?) he couldn't catch?
January 16th, 2019 at 2:46 PM ^
He also has stone hands.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:11 PM ^
i heard the kid cannot catch very well. That is what my sources are telling me.
January 16th, 2019 at 6:01 PM ^
This is our concern Dude
January 16th, 2019 at 8:30 PM ^
Killer drop in PopeLando, that broadcasting school really paid off!
Seriously though, funny Lebowski pull.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:25 PM ^
That guy would have been a disaster under Hoke. He couldn't catch a football. Do you think he would have learned how to do that under Hoke's offensive coaching staffs?
January 16th, 2019 at 2:42 PM ^
He couldn't catch a football. Do you think he would have learned how to do that under Hoke's offensive coaching staffs?
Considering all but 3 of Hoke recruited WR's turned out to be mediocre to terrible as it was... no, no I do not.
January 16th, 2019 at 3:49 PM ^
devin funchess would like a word
January 16th, 2019 at 5:29 PM ^
...uuuuh, yeah, that's why I said all but 3. I think you can probably deduce that Funchess would be 1 of the 3.
January 17th, 2019 at 12:03 PM ^
I'm an idiot and read it as "all 3 of Hoke's WR recruits were terrible"
my bad
January 16th, 2019 at 3:23 PM ^
He would have played defense here. I thought FSU was trying him at safety.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
What about Naseir Upshur? Didn't we offer him also?
January 16th, 2019 at 2:57 PM ^
Worth a look for UM?
January 16th, 2019 at 7:00 PM ^
I haven't really followed him at FSU. I thought he was a good blocking TE coming out of high school, but not a great receiver.
Here's what I wrote about him coming out of high school (LINK).
January 16th, 2019 at 3:42 PM ^
He was a Michigan lean at one point - he was in the video that Caesar Ruiz filmed walking down the streets of AA with Harbaugh.
There ended up being a love triangle between FSU, UG and Michigan with him and Nauta. Of course, we were the odd ones out.
Turns out Nauta was a loss but not so much with Upshur...
January 16th, 2019 at 3:57 PM ^
In the link it describes him to be a blocky catchy type TE.
January 16th, 2019 at 2:29 PM ^
Campbell and Damien Harris both committed within the same week. It looked as if Hoke was a recruiting master as we were the leader for Hand as well.
Win some and lose some. And sometimes the ones we lose are not as big of losses as we thought.
