not surprising. best of luck to him.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:02 PM ^
Was he in the 2-deep for next year?
January 14th, 2019 at 6:10 PM ^
No. It would have been an uphill battle for him.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:32 PM ^
Let's be honest. It's going to be an uphill battle for him in the transfer portal
January 14th, 2019 at 6:51 PM ^
Am I the only one who's getting hints of black cherry and a noticeable waft of Star Trek every time I see the phrase 'transfer portal'? At least they'll be able to move around quickly to check out other schools.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:05 PM ^
Are we making a City on the Edge of Forever joke? Or a normal transporter joke?
It's crucial that I know before I make a nerdy response... guess I already have...
January 14th, 2019 at 11:50 PM ^
It's OK. For an otherwise quite campy show, that episode was really good. I'd recommend it even to non-nerds, though they might be tempted to watch more and then think less of you.
January 14th, 2019 at 8:02 PM ^
Just a common garden variety teleporter joke. But to rehabilitate my street cred I'm linking this article about German scientists and work they're doing on a real transporter unit.
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jan/23/german-scientists-teleporter-transporter-3d-printing-star-trek
Apparently, they've got dematerialization pretty much down but are stuck there. (Somewhere out there a lot of pigs and goats are floating through the ether; the govt has placed a moratorium on further experiment until they find them).
Just theorizing, but I'll bet it has something to do with leftover salts. Maybe they need to use deionized water.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:00 PM ^
He started for UM in 5 games in 2017. I don't think he'll have trouble finding schools that will welcome him. The question will be whether he wants to continue with football at those schools.
January 14th, 2019 at 8:22 PM ^
Nolan started 5 more games than I ever did for Michigan. Hopefully he is a grad transfer and got his degree. Good luck Mr. Ulzio!
January 14th, 2019 at 8:51 PM ^
Exactly. I imagine there will be a handful of mid-level or below Power 5 schools interested in him. There are always those schools who need more immediate help on the OL and/or who missed on an OT or two in this last cycle who would grab a somewhat proven commodity to take his place.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:09 PM ^
He might get some MACtion, who knows. Regardless, best of luck to the young man wherever he ends up
January 15th, 2019 at 9:02 AM ^
Smart move by him if he wants to play. Good luck to him
January 14th, 2019 at 6:03 PM ^
Feels like either a firm handshake or a reasonable decision made on his own. It seems he’s been definitively passed on the outside by younger guys.
If they’re truly talking with grad transfer DTs, I’d imagine this isn’t the last one of these.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:07 PM ^
I thought Michigan still had a couple scholarships available even if no one else leaves. People were talking about who Michigan might go after for the late signing period.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:13 PM ^
Right now as best I can tell, Michigan needs two more departures to make the numbers work for 85.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:14 PM ^
Nordin and a DB will leave is my guess. Only because Dax will come in and pass them.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:28 PM ^
Nordin is pretty far down on the safety depth chart
January 14th, 2019 at 6:31 PM ^
....but not as far down as he is on the place kicking depth chart!!!
January 14th, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
why would nordin transfer? he has one other kicker to beat out. it's not like he is buried on the depth chart.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:28 PM ^
I mean, I think it's pretty obvious. It's hard to make field goals and stuff if you're not the #1 kicker.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:42 PM ^
so magnus... what your saying ...captain obvious.... is where ever else he would go there are no other kickers so he is the number one kicker by default? sounds like a stupid observation.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:21 PM ^
I think you are pretty close. There will be more departures. Some will happen after spring practice for various reasons.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:29 PM ^
Just curious Umbig, what percentage of information you receive do you share with the board?
January 14th, 2019 at 6:33 PM ^
Probably less than 35%. Seth gets to take in some of the crazy stuff behind the scenes from various people.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:36 PM ^
Interesting. Thanks for sharing! I can imagine you get some good laughs at some of the projections when you already know what’s going on.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:48 PM ^
No problem, and sometimes you get good laughs when I get something wrong. It goes both ways.
Tranfers are some of the worst to predict or share. It seems like every player wants to leave at some point or they miss home, or just change their minds.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:00 PM ^
Agreed. Sometimes hard to remember most of us were in their shoes as well. You’re crazy if you didn’t go to college and get homesick because you missed mama’s cookin!!
January 14th, 2019 at 6:35 PM ^
Theres a lot of stuff he doesn't tell us. Apparently he has info to some of lifes biggest questions. What is the secret to life? Where Jimmy Hoffa is buried, whats in Area 51 ect.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:03 PM ^
Discretion is a lost art
January 14th, 2019 at 7:12 PM ^
Jimmy Hoffa is buried at Area 51.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:25 PM ^
Nope, we're over the limit (LINK).
January 14th, 2019 at 6:05 PM ^
Best of luck to Nolan. Hope he sets out for even greater success.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:05 PM ^
January 14th, 2019 at 6:12 PM ^
Farewell, Nolan Ulizio. Best of luck and godspeed.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:36 PM ^
I always saw it more like this...
January 14th, 2019 at 9:41 PM ^
Somebody needs to post the portal from the Star Trek episode, "The City on the Edge of Forever"
January 14th, 2019 at 6:13 PM ^
He could land at MAC school and probably be a decent RT. Maybe one of the Ohio MAC schools. Pretty sure that is where he is from.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:39 PM ^
I think he is from Conneticut.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:42 PM ^
Looked it up, West Chester, OH.
January 14th, 2019 at 6:47 PM ^
West Chester sounds like it would be in Connecticut
January 14th, 2019 at 7:14 PM ^
West Chester is a nice subururb just north of Cincinnati - maybe he'll end up back at the University of Cincinnati to play there, who knows.
January 14th, 2019 at 10:51 PM ^
Wow, blast from the past. Did elementary school in West Chester before moving back to Michigan.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:24 PM ^
You're thinking of Westchestertonfieldville.
January 14th, 2019 at 8:11 PM ^
Mr. Deeds reference noted and appreciated.
January 14th, 2019 at 10:50 PM ^
That's a sneaky reference. I underestimated your sneakiness.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:03 PM ^
He was committed to UConn before Michigan got him to flip. That's probably what you're thinking of.
January 14th, 2019 at 7:18 PM ^
So maybe one of the Connecticut MAC schools?
