From your lips to Harbaugh's ears:

“I think he’s as smart as they come,” Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables said of Saban. “I think he said, ‘These are the things that hurt us, so let’s do it to them.’ ”

On the hoops broadcast Dakich was talking about how Saban doesn't text and only talks to recruits over the phone.

Unlike the Ole Miss staff, Nick watched The Wire.

easy to get evidence through texts, harder to get evidence through phone calls unless recorded.

you get 100,000...you get 50,000...you get a house....you get a scholarship...you can walk on....you get 50,000...

I wonder how much alabama spends to recruit because saban was a terrible coach at MSU and in the nfl and if Harbaugh wins 10 games this year he has the same record as saban at LSU after 5 seasons. (Championships not included of course)

I agree with this - the NCAA has convinced us that rich old men giving money to mostly poor young men in exchange for their football talent is somehow dirty or wrong.  It is called capitalism and their is nothing wrong with it.

If someone wanted to pay me to do their accounting when I was at Ross, nobody would have a problem with it.  The only thing dirty is the NCAA itself.

Michigan openly flouting the rules a la Bama and Georgia would help being down the current rotten system faster.

There are some issues with paying players; like how do you make this happen in a way that doesn't kill smaller schools.

That said, I'm really bugged by the fact that the B1G and the NCAA make huge bank on NCAAF and the players are sitting there with no money.

I do wonder if you did pay the players if UM would come out better than many SEC schools because of our huge fanbase, our national footprint, and ability to generate a large amount of money.

With respect, I was openly wondering if we might have an advantage. That is a mental excercise, not being a self serving homer. You bring up some good points I hadn't thought about vis a vis Title IX.

Tuscaloosa is NOT East Lansing. You guys kill me on here. Just because someone is successful they are crooked and just because another program is winning consistently then they must be doing something wrong and its because their players are stupid and they could not possibly get into Michigan academically. Get a clue. College football at that level like ALL college sports is dirty including your beloved Wolverine program. As far as academics, how many Michigan players are majoring in "General Studies" and just what in the hell is that? There is much truth to the Michigan fan base being the most arrogant in college football and just why they are makes you scratch your head? All of the bitching on here about Harbaugh is flat out ignorant. He has had THREE 10 win seasons in FOUR years and in his down year he won 8. He didn't walk into Ann Arbor like Meyer did in Columbus where Tressel had already modernized the program. Meyer also walked into Gainsville to a LOADED roster that Ron Zook had recruited. Much different walking into the depletion of Rich Rod, Brady Hoke and that idiot David Brandon and they damage that was done to a program that was stagnated under Loyd Carr who was an AVERAGE coach to begin with. If Harbaugh takes an NFL job then the Michigan fan base would shit its pants and the cries would be heard from LA to New York. Then, if a guy like Lincoln Riley was hired they would blast him for not being a Michigan Man and call him an ignorant Southern redneck because he speaks with a southern accent. Absolutely ridiculous.

There is evidence to support the payment in monetary ways is happening in the South but as you say other places as well...but you're fucking naively dumb if you think the South isn't doing it a helluva lot more and frequently.  It's not a conspiracy.

The bitching about Harbaugh is because he's got dudes on his team but is seemingly running an antiquated offense, as well as complex, and it doesn't need to be with the athletes occupying the roster.  Don't care what fancy stats say about a theoretical top-25 offense...it has often been shit against teams who were good.  And the defense..well that's another story.

Being in the South has nothing to do with it. Are you old enough to remember Southern Cal in 2002-2005? That's out West remember. What about Ohio State? That's South of Ann Arbor of course. I'm sure Jim Harbaugh has forgot more football than you will ever know enough to coach it other than youth ball. If there is any bitching about Harbaugh then it should be against his team management style. He is former NFL player so he wants to keep his hands in the offense which takes away management of the entire program. He is NEVER going to hire an OC at Michigan and let that go so you can forget that.

Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) is an undergraduate degree offered by many colleges and universities in the Western world. The history of the general studies concept is coeval with that of the medieval European university (where it existed under the formal Latin designation Studium generale).

The BGS offers students the ability to design a unique degree plan while meeting their academic institution's general requirements. This flexibility allows students to complete a bachelor's degree that offers an element of individualism absent in many other degrees specific to a particular discipline. A BGS holds the same value as other degrees in liberal arts or sciences and is often referred to as an "interdisciplinary" degree, which allows students to build strong arguments based on information from a broad range of topics.

In the United States, hundreds of colleges and universities offer BGS programs. Students typically can choose from concentrations in a variety of areas. Examples include University of Michigan[1] Western Illinois UniversityUniversity of Connecticut,[2] University of Miami,[3] California University of Management and Technology(CALMAT), University of Nebraska at Omaha,[4] William Carey University[5], and Charter Oak State College, which offers a BGS degree with a wide variety of concentration options.[6] Regent University is one of few Christian universities to offer a general studies degree.[7]

Despite its name, Columbia University School of General Studies does not offer a Bachelor of General Studies.

Correct.

It was a major made up in the 1960's due to hippy whining... nothing at all to do with athletes.

...now, because of the choice involved in designing the degree program it CAN be a bullshit major, or it can exceedingly academically rigorous.

So, how are all CFB programs dirty???  We know SEC has its bagmen, what does everyone else have?

Man, this thread has the trolls and contrarians galore.  Congrats Brian on pulling in such a wide audience.

agreed, all good points.  To be the best and compete against the best you need players. It all starts with recruiting. If you don't have the best players then it is hard to compete.Alabama is a machine right now with Clemson not too far behind.  As long as they have competent recruiting they will be a force to be reconed with. They basically recruit themselves.  They sit back and let the talent come to them.
