[LOCKED] You are entitled to....NOTHING!

Submitted by New Carr on January 1st, 2019 at 5:47 AM

I am exhausted by the absurdity and unrealistic expectations placed on UM football and Harbaugh. The "why aren't we Bama or OSU yet crowd".... get a fucking grip and grow up.  Yeah, it sucks that it is taking longer than we expected and hoped for...and shit, god forbid, maybe we don't get to elite status. UM is not a football factory, it never has been.  We will hopefully compete for the playoff (we have been 1 game short in 2 of Harbaugh's 4 seasons - after the dumpster fire that was the RR and Hoke years) and it seems we are a few players and schematic changes away from getting there.  The "unacceptable", "I feel insulted", entitled, recency bias, torch and pitch fork, reactionary crowd need to find another fucking team or grow the fuck up. We all want better - as an alum, nothing would be more amazing than to attend a national title game.

We are not elite, but SURPRISE!- we don't suck anymore.  And if you give the man more than 4 years, and stop canabilizing the program through negativity and staff turnover, we'll probably get even better than the three - 10 win seasons he has produced in 4 years after inheriting a moribund program.

And no, Harbaugh is not perfect and has plenty of flaws and we can critique it all, and the team was uninspired for that UF game and there is much improvement to be had and criticism is absolutely warranted.  But if you think anybody better is walking through the door to take the job, which does not allow for SEC win at all costs tactics (and with this delusional and entitled fanbase nonetheless - some who absurdly want him out after 4 years of clear improvement over the past 20 years) get a clue.  Harbaugh is the best thing for UM football and it means more to him to get them over the top than any of you vitriolic spewing morons.  How long did it take Dabo to get Clemson to this point? - And we sure as hell know he can cut corners that Harbaugh can't.

Harbaugh can easily walk back to the NFL as a top 5 coach and not have to deal with our shit, delusional fanbase, or media just waiting for his every misstep or failure.  Just be happy he has stuck around to get us to where we are, including this great incoming recruiting class....Oh, and he's done it without cutting corners, keeping some semblance of the student-athlete experience about which we all like to boast, unlike the Bama's and OSU's of the world running farcical university experiences to poor mask what are NFL football factories.

If you wish to share tactical, coaching, schematic or talent critiques, I think this board is fair and open to it.  If you just want to spew UNACCEPTABLE, I AM ENTITLED TO MOAR WINS! - go fuck off.  You aren't entitled to shit.

[edit: mgowill] Probably best to lock this now since it seems to be going in circles.

Thank you sir. Eff all the worthless whiny idiots who already forgot what that 5-7 season felt like. Criticism of Harbaugh is fine but everything else including the idea of firing him is the most idiotic garbage I've ever read on this site. Besides gigantic cheater Saban, nobody could've built a turnaround this quickly. Harbaugh will win and I would've thought this stupid board learned their lesson after Beilein in 2017 but apparently not. "Bring back Amacker!" All of you can shut your mouths and quit routing for this team if it isn't good enough.

You were probably one of the people predicting a big ten title and national title by now when Harbaugh was hired. Give me a break. If ANYONE on this blog when Harbaugh was hired had predicted 0-4 against OSU, no big ten titles, 1-3 in bowls, and 1-9 against the top ten they would have been laughed off this blog and negged to Bolivia.

I can’t create new posts but I wanted to leave this information. Take it as you wish but more than a solid chance that Al Washington is leaving for Ohio State. Pretty close to a done deal. They just need to get through today’s Rose Bowl before announcing. Would take a serious investment for Michigan to keep him.

He was just hired last year, has been making great strides in recruiting Ohio and now he’s leaving to OSU? Can’t fault  him for pursuing it as a career move, it’s coaching after all.

With all the rumblings going around, this offseason has the makings of a real test for Harbaugh and the fan base.

You lost me at saying harnaught is a top 5 coach.  What top 5 coach calls the plays he does?

New Carr

January 1st, 2019 at 6:44 AM ^

The top 5 coach that took a moribund SF franchise to 3 straight NFC championship games and within 1 play of winning the Super Bowl.

When on an even playing field (NFL salary cap) he is a top coach.  Unfortunately, the SEC and OSU don't have salary caps.  When UM is consistently putting in the league as man players as Bama,  OSU, USC, UGA, LSU - then call him underachieving, or not a great coach.

BTW...How many national titles did Urban Meyer win at OSU, despite the 10000-4 record over his tenure??? 1

Losing to Purdue, Iowa, MSU and not getting to the playoff.  Getting his doors blown off by Clemson in the playoff semifinal.  Yeah...you want to see overrated - take a look at a guy with a decided talent advantage (due to questionable to no ethics at a football factory), with the second most players in the NFL, and I'll show you a coach that underachieved.

Saban cheats and wins national titles.  Dabo cheats and gets to the playoff every year.  For all the Meyer is elite guys out there...Why was there not more success with so much talent?

And, lastly, for people who actually know...the NFL was never clamoring for Meyer.  We already saw what Saban was in the NFL.  UGA and Clemson are Bama lite...fuck school, fuck the rules.

Let Harbaugh recruit and run his program that way, and we will be right there with the other "college" football programs.

Unfortunately, for all you detractors, Jim came to Michigan and still "plays school"

I didn’t call harnaught a bad coach nor did I call for him to leave.  I just pointed out how a top 5 coach doesn’t call the types of plays that harnaught does.  To elaborate I don’t know why the team moves gingerly through situations where they could use more downfield talent.  Playing not to lose is not top 5.  No need to deny it.

'disagree' is not the same as a troll.  no problem with the former, but the latter is foolish and you have a very difficult time staying away from the latter.  now please tell us a little bit about yourself so we can get an idea of the intellect and experience behind these posts of yours.  how about a bit about education/athletic/career/marital info.  i know i'm not the only one genuinely curious about you.

Ain't that the truth.  I've been called a "sparty troll" by dreary little fanboys who weren't even a glint in the poolboy's eye when I started following Michigan sports.

Not only is it hard for them to accept opposing opinions, they can't live with the idea that their pollyanna version of Michigan football just isn't reality.

now that you feel better, how about telling the truth?  the opinion that 'harbaugh is not a top 5 coach' is not trolling, its not even controversial.  calling harbaugh by the name of 'harnaught' is the very definition of trolling: non-substantive provocation.   'naught', if you remember from your calculus and or stats course, means 'zero' or 'nothing'.   fans don't use words like that.  trolls, most likely ohio or sparty trolls, use words like that.

They are pretty damn good....but better? You could TRY to make a case for Kelly, but that’s a stretch. Fisher? Also could make a case.

Still, none of them are better, or at least definitely so. He’s right in that top tier, definitely below swinney and Saban, but in the thick with all the others. Top 5 is a fair designation.

Uh...lol

97 Michigan was a semi-pro team. Despite his many faults, Lloyd Carr recruited a lot of elite (NFL) talent which is what made some of the results so freaking infuriating.

Look up the names on the 99 team. In retrospect, that team should have won the National Championship but didn't partly because of the Drew Henson / Tom Brady QB controversy. (Btw, fuck Henson.)

So when Michigan was stacked with NFL talent, did you think Carr was cheating?

Or is "cheating" the new excuse for Michigan's underachieving?

Btw, after Michigan's loss and Clemson's win on Saturday, someone on twitter pointed this out.

4 and 5 star recruits 2016-2018 classes combined per 247 sports:
Clemson: 35
Michigan: 41

In those 3 years, Clemson has won the ACC 3 times, qualified for the CFB Playoff 3 times, won 1 National Championship and will play for another in a week's time.

Meanwhile, in that same time span Michigan has merely tied for a single division title and...that's it.

The lengths people will go to excuse Harbaugh's deficiencies is quite funny to me. Harbaugh's cult of personality has blinded many to why Michigan hasn't reached the lofty expectations.

Despite being a supposed QB guru, Harbaugh's QBs have been efficient game managers at best and downright disasters at worst (O'Korn). People wanted to blame Drevno and now Pep. The buck stops with Harbaugh. If Harbaugh wanted to throw downfield at least once per drive, Pep would oblige. But it doesn't happen. Gee...I wonder what Occam's Razor says...

I don't doubt that Harbaugh is an elite coach but in 4 years at Michigan he has not delivered top 5 results. His NFL success ultimately means nothing w/r/t Michigan outside of recruiting. And the further we get from those 2011-2014 years, the less relevant they become.

"ACC is trash. Michigan would've been 12-0 in that conference multiple times."

Uh, did you forget when we lost to FSU in the Orange Bowl?

Btw, Michigan has a clear problem winning games on the road.

Don't think so? Look at the scores of our wins and losses.

We're often a very different team on the road. We get into life and death struggles against teams we should win comfortably against.

Seriously?  So your excuse to Harbaugh putting an unprepared and unmotivated team on the field against OSU and Florida is that we are in a tough conference?  His team got massacred, it’s not just about wins and losses, it’s about how the game goes down, how you prepare your team.  It’s not about getting into the CFP, it’s about winning games against your rivals.  You win the games and CFP will take care of itself.  Yeah let’s get into an easy conference and avoid all tough games so we can make the CFP, that makes sense.  Poor us having to play OSU every year.  I really don’t even mind the losses, but the product he has put on the field the last two weeks is downright worrisome.

enough with the recruiting excuses, enough of the “needs OC calling plays” excuses.  Listen I’m willing to give Harbaugh more time, but if you need a DC to manage the whole defensive side of the ball, apparently need an OC to call plays and put points on the board, what exactly are you doing as the head coach?  A high paid delegator?  If a head coach is only as good as his position coaches and coordinators he puts around him, then he’s probably not a very good coach.  I hope he works out, because this program can’t handle another coaching change.

To be fair, if Michigan were in the ACC, it would be the same situation. Clemson would be the OSU. The problem is that Clemson has no counterpart in the ACC. Miami? VaTech? Pitt? FSU? Those teams all collectively and simultaneously suck. Over the past 3 years, it would have been FAR easier to get to the playoffs and go undefeated in the ACC than Michigan’s position playing PSU, MSU, and OSU, not to mention Wisconsin for all three years and throw in an Iowa and Northwestern here and there. Clemson has played against trash. Now, Clemson is a solid team and proves it when they’ve played any team in the playoffs, but they just manhandled ND....who should not have been in the playoffs in the first place. That should have been the ACC championship game.

Since you brought up Clemson I will drop a nugget here. Clemson used to be the program known as not being able to win the big games. Before Dabo arrived, 9 win seasons had been their ceiling for about 20 years. Dabo comes in and he promptly loses to the big rival USC (not that USC) 4 years in a row and is also criticized for not being able to win big games even though in years 3-5 he wins 10, 11 and 11 games. It wasn't until year 7 that Clemson finally made the leap, made the playoff and won it all. True, they did make ACC championship games 2 times before that winning one of them but facing Georgia Tech and VT is a whole other caliber than OSU.

I think Clemson is possibly the team that most resembles what Michigan has been through. A team rich in history and winning that went through a long drought of bad years, getting owned by their biggest rival (although not on the same level as we have), criticized for not winning big games despite 10-11 win seasons before finally breaking through after 7 seasons. Take it for what its worth but give Harbaugh time and he may turn Michigan around to top tier much like Dabo has with Clemson.

Comparing Clemson's history to Michigan is laughable. Clemson won one NC in the 80s under Ford who was pretty good for about a decade and that's about it. They don't have near our resources and Dabo was never even a head coach before taking over. We should not have to be making a comparison to a coach that came in here with a huge amount of hype like Harbaugh.

Just logged on to say "thank you" to Frank Chuck.  I'm not advocating UofM fire Harbaugh - I don't know of anyone who has better credentials and he's done well as the HC.  But he has not achieved what most everyone wanted and what he implied he would deliver - championships.  And it doesn't appear he's any closer to doing so.  So, to those who are still so "over the top" on JH, I say "get over it."  To me, they're kind of the polar opposite of "trolls".
