The football scoop article refences a Rivals report.  Rich has not accepted the job yet.

It won't be interesting for the SEC.  Unless RR has added a bunch of wrinkles to his offense, it'll get shut down by the better teams.  RR was truly an innovative offensive mind back in the early/mid 2000's when he introduced his offense to the world.  However, he never really adapted or added to it.  Other teams started to incorporate elements of his offense into theirs and instead of it being an offense no one had seen or tried to defend before, it became the offense that dcoordinators saw on a regular basis.  Defenses started to figure out how to defend it and it was the end of RR.

Agree. Set aside all the bad memories from his stay here. Think about this in purely football terms. Questions that come to me include:

  • How much control over offensive recruiting would he have? Would he still go for the smaller players, or would the HC overrule in favor of players more SEC-sized?
  • Would we see the same offense he took to Arizona? Or as OC would he have to accomodate the HC's wishes and modify it?
  • How would he handle defenses like Alabama's or LSU's? Would he find a way to be moderately successful, or would his offense get stuffed?

This all assumes the story is true.

Still, as an exercise in watching something from afar, this could be intriguing.

I care. A lot. A whole lot. Actually, I don't give a crap. But if the day ever comes that we play them in a bowl and that sumb*tch beats us, I will be livid.

Rich Rod : Offense :: Don Brown : Defense

Scheme works great against over-matched opponents, but put it up against similar or better talent and coaching, and it fails miserably.

Delaware State notwithstanding (and they couldn't, obviously)...

Points Per Game Scored, all games, including bowls for those years with six or more wins:

Gary Moeller 33.5

Jim Harbaugh 33.0

Bo Schembechler 29.4

Brady Hoke 29.2

Lloyd Carr 28.7

Ole Miss's Apparent New OC 27.6

And defense? We won't go there. At least the Rebels know enough not to, either.

I think what he did was lightning at the right time for a mid-major. And that's about it. He's a terrible coach.
