Yeah, I think that’s exactly how the coaches approached it.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
Thank goodness our recruits are already signed!!! They can't back out now can they? LOL
December 29th, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
UM football in meaningless
December 29th, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
This was televised across the nation.
Woof.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:34 PM ^
Was it meaningless though ? Not sure if offseason momentum is a thing. But would rather have won.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
That is an impressive point total
December 29th, 2018 at 3:34 PM ^
I'm tired of this "It doesn't mean anything" meme bullshit on this board.
YES it does mean something. Recruits see this. It is an actual game that reflects our season, and where U-M stands as a team. It was embarassing and it DOES affect the program.
Also fuck Rashan, Kiran and JBB. They could have helped. Probably wouldn't have been enough, but at least maybe we wouldn't make them look like fucking Alabama. Hate the selfish attitude, and if they're that good and worried about their status they can take out an insurance policy. Devin's situation i understand.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:37 PM ^
A lot of sarcasm in my post bro. I agree with you. Every time you strap on the colors it should be to win. I'm drinking 1792 bourbon by the way.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
Florida beat us once out of 6 tries. Bad game but they were due especially with 4 nfl prospects sitting out.
December 29th, 2018 at 7:46 PM ^
Way too much rationalizing going on. The fact that we had four NFL guys sit reflects poorly on the program culture. The game mattered, and the team wasn't up to task.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
New flash!! Recruits don’t care about one game! Everyone attributed the loss to OSU as am reson Hill decommited initially. Turns out it had nothing to do with his decision. You may think it makes a difference because your pissed they lost. But recruits don’t really care or the would all wait to see who wins bowl games before they commit. Plus all the other players you named sacrificed they’re bodies and well being for three plus years.. they owe you nothing! They are allowed to protect themselves and there future. Most of these kids don’t come from situations where their families are well off. They are literally the lottery ticket waiting to get cashed.

December 29th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
Season ended in November. I don't know why people are upset now.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:40 PM ^
Tell that to 2020 recruits dumb ass.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
I should put this in my OP.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:46 PM ^
It was meaningless.. the commentators talked about the two playoff games more than the game they were calling..
December 29th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
It is meaningless in the sense for this to be a meaningful representation of Michigan football the coaches would need to have all their players at their disposal. As it is however an ‘optional team activity’ in this day and age, itd be silly to pay all that much attention to it.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:49 PM ^
Not a meaningless game. We just got smoked, again, on national television. That matters.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
To who??
December 29th, 2018 at 4:24 PM ^
I suspect recruits.
December 29th, 2018 at 5:30 PM ^
What recruits? All the 3 stars playing on defense today?
December 29th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
If it's meaningless, then why accept the invite at all and risk players health? I would prefer Michigan sat out the bowl season altogether than march this bullshit out on national television.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:53 PM ^
It would be nice to play a bowl game that wasn't a de facto home game for the other team. Who cares if it's less money - the win means more to long term program success/revenue.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
Vegas normally spots the home team 3 not 30.
December 30th, 2018 at 12:47 AM ^
Statement was general to most of our bowl appearances in the last 20+ years. Just look at 2 years ago against FSU as a prime example. The de facto home team doesn't always win (see Harbaugh's first game against UF), but it seems to a continual disadvantage to us. Rather BS to do nothing about it.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:59 PM ^
Money of course
December 29th, 2018 at 11:01 PM ^
But then people couldn’t log in to Mgoblkg to tell us how unimportant this is. I mean NY6 game and number 7 ranked?? Who wants to see that garbage . Sometimes our fan base gets exactly what it deserves.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:51 PM ^
It was a terrible bowl game. Peach bowl stinks. Give me Pasadena or give me death.
December 29th, 2018 at 5:31 PM ^
Gotta beat a good team before the rose bowl is an option
December 29th, 2018 at 3:51 PM ^
Hope the players sitting out feel nice and rested. The draftee players for UF certainly looked exhausted after their game.
December 29th, 2018 at 5:33 PM ^
Especially the only early entrant for them . Had 2 picks, 1 for a td, and should have had a 3rd
December 29th, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
Disagree. It provided a ton of meaning- towards the dreary future of this program
December 29th, 2018 at 3:57 PM ^
Recruiting is everything
December 29th, 2018 at 5:34 PM ^
Atleast they had a 0 star walk on safety out there on the 3rd and 20 td run.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:58 PM ^
Poison. Meaningless poison.
December 29th, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
Meaningless like kissing your aunt at Christmas. It may not mean anything, but it leaves an ugly taste in your mouth.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
Agreed. It was a meaningless game...I'm not sad or mad that we lost.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:05 PM ^
That playoff has made the rest of the bowl games meaningless. This year it is more noticeable than ever. When cbs starts keeping track of all the guys sitting out it just shows how pointless the bowl games are.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
Peppers figured this out years ago. In another 3 or 4 years dozens of players will sit out. Then superstar sophomores will start to sit out whole seasons. Nick Bosa anyone? Where does it end?
December 29th, 2018 at 5:00 PM ^
Wait!! I thought Peppers was hurt. I saw those crocodile tears about not being able to play...
December 29th, 2018 at 4:09 PM ^
One team prepped like it was a meaningless game. One team prepped like it meant everything.
Guess which team won?
Wine. A lot of it.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
You are the first person to say what they are drinking. Kudos to you.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:13 PM ^
This is the kinda bullshit loser mentality that gets a program to where it is
December 29th, 2018 at 4:20 PM ^
Bro, I've been bleeding maize and blue for close to 40 years. My mentality knows this program is exactly where it has always been save the dark RR and Hoke years. Younger fans have some grand delusion of where it is supposed to be.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:20 PM ^
and WTF are you drinking???
December 29th, 2018 at 4:21 PM ^
and WTF are you drinking???
December 29th, 2018 at 4:16 PM ^
This is my first ever post. I thank all those participating in this meaningless excerise.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:21 PM ^
I blame the system, not the team. Our season ended in Columbus. These bowls exist only so that sponsors can advertise something. How much should it cost them to purchase two established football brands and have them play a game? If there's an iron-clad argument to pay college football players, it's meaningless bowl games.
And I think for those of you on the fence about whether it's worth caring much about, ask yourself whether you'd trade a W here and not getting "embarrassed" for the team pulling out that challenging W against Indiana last month?
Gary and the others would have given everything they've got if this were anything but a glorified exhibition game.
I'm glad I didn't watch it, just glanced at the box from time to time.
My need for alcohol today is about one one-millionth of what it was five weeks ago. That one hurt.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:46 PM ^
I agree that the bowls have lost their luster with the playoffs. And the Peach Bowl was never near the top of anyone's list for best bowls.
That said, is the Rose Bowl in a special category of its own, or is this year just an anomaly? No Buckeyes are sitting it out (including Haskins, who is looking at an enormous pay day as the 1st or 2nd QB in the draft), and I don't believe any Huskies are sitting it out either. I live in Seattle, and the Huskies fans are really pumped (and the Huskies have been in the playoffs recently, it's not like they don't have higher aspirations).
I kind of think maybe the Rose Bowl might be an outlier. Maybe a bunch of the lesser bowls will die out, and the Rose Bowl will continue to have cachet because of its history.
December 29th, 2018 at 4:57 PM ^
Except for the fact we got embarrassed on national TV, and the game was so bad it was turned into an infomercial for the ND/Clemson game. It was meaningless except for the fact it showed our coach will never change--must run!!--and threw in the towel and punted to basically tell his players that the game was over. It was especially meaningless to two of our captains which especially stung when the TV crew commented on the Florida guy who decided to play even after announcing he was going to the NFL.
Meaningless, sure, if you say so. Nothing to see, move along.
