OT: Significant other Christmas gift thread

Submitted by UMProud on December 22nd, 2018 at 1:00 PM

As a serial procrastinator (I'm sure some of you are as well) I still have a few gifts to get for my wife.  After 30 years of marriage it's getting pretty hard to come up with good ideas and avoid buying her the same shit I've bought before.

What are some things you've bought for your significant other?  Might serve as an idea for another poor slob like me who is still looking to do some last minute shopping.

BTW I drove by a Costco and there was a line around the building.  Lord have mercy...

I always buy what she tells me to buy, plus an occasional added surprise that she might need (like the year I bought her a Garmin)

28 years of marriage and still surviving

I have an added crappy bonus, my wife's birthday is 6 weeks before Christmas. So all my good ideas get used up there.

I got her a Birchbox subscription this year. It's a monthly makeup service. It's a new idea I liked

I got you all beat so far.  My wife's b-day is x-mas eve.  It's brutal.  But I did take her away the past couple days to a nice hotel inside Universal Studios for some play and get away from the kids.

Now I just brought home a couple pizzas and she's bitching that I didn't get the right toppings.  So, coal is what she may be getting.  And since I have a Big Green Egg, I have plenty of coal in my garage.

My wife gets anniversary, the next week is her birthday then the next week is Christmas. I'm sure she loved the birthday and christmas 6 days apart when she was a kid.

After 16 years of disappointing her in that 3 week time span we've finally come to the point where she just buys whatever she wants and I throw some random things in there to show I still care. Nice part is she's extremely easy to please and quite low maintenance. If I ever "wasted money" (her words) on jewelry or flowers for her she'd kill me. So that's nice.

Something shiny with the kids' birthstones on it (if you havent gone down that road already)

A package to a day spa (if shes into that stuff)

Something you can do together (if theres something she wants to do together she talks to you about like a cooking class, ballroom dance lessons, rock climbing, chainsaw art)

Somethig she can do alone (if shes had a dream or an itch shes never scratched i.e. piano lessons, auto racing school, creative writing)

NEVER EVERY BUY A WOMAN SOMETHING ATTACHED TO A CORD. My Dad got my Mom a vacuum one year for her Birthday. Goddamn was that funny

Weekend trip somewhere she’s wanted to go

Frame a picture she loves

Tickets to a play or orchestra or musical (if she’s into that) or a concert - VIP meet and greet if your budget and her interests  allow

Book about or by someone or something that is a passion

and of course a customized Michigan Jersey (tip: don’t use the name “Toots” as the name in the back and avoid the number “69”)

Wife and I are in the midst of house projects and family planning so there isn't a ton of extra loot lying around this year. We are each doing a small gift ($25 or so) and an experience, probably a nice dinner somewhere. Nothing fancy and that's fine with me.

My wife and I really tend to focus on the kids when it comes to Christmas, so we don't get a lot for ourselves, but given my wife's obsession with all things Marvel and several anime franchises, I can basically do the entire run at Hot Topic.
