Pretty cool marketing move for signing day

Submitted by Gentleman Squirrels on December 18th, 2018 at 4:52 PM

Recently, I've noticed that former Michigan football players have been sending out "Welcome to Michigan" messages on twitter along with a picture of themselves while they were playing. It's pretty cool to look back at all the great people that have come through this school and exciting to see who in this next crop will write themselves in the history books at Michigan. I'm assuming that this is a marketing suggestion made by the university's marketing department since all of the messages are similar and gives off an air of being consistent support from coaches and alumni as well. I'll post some examples below

I saw some of those tweets.  Didn't remember ever seeing them in the past.  Good point, must be a concerted effort and a really, really good one. Thanks to whomever came up with it and to the players participating.

This bowl game is a defining moment ... oh yah.  Not.

2019 will be the year.  wink wink. All rivals are home.

So what game is the $$$ 10 million dollar defining game.  Can't be a home game.    Where is this NFL program?  Just win something and stop embarrassing yourself.

Our offense should be a fair bit better next year, potentially great.

Our defense looks to take a step back...however, don brown has never really had a defense take a step back and last year we thought our defense was screwed with all the players lost and it was still one of the best in the nation.

(OSU fan here; my opinion on Michigan football. Fans are always seeing things through their school lens, and there is nothing wrong with that.) This is going to quick things I see about Michigan, so please be light on my incoherent statements.

I see some fans worried about recruiting; I've always thought UM has pretty good players and its just their coaching that gets in the way. I like UM's receivers, because they remind me of Bama's with their physicality - but Jim needs to implement more easier routes that makes it easier for the oline in pass pro. Shea Patterson was really good when he transferred to UM, but I never saw him as threat, because I knew Jim would limit his style of play to his offense. Just compare his stats at Ole Miss vs UM. I will always be against Jim's offensive style - it takes up too much time - doesn't spread out defense - it the reason why they always get in low scoring games against MSU, who they should be easily blowing out like OSU or at least scoring more points. You guys will think I'm crazy, but I think Jim should change the offense or he should go. I've always been the same with Urban (as crazy as it sounds); in big games against UM, USC, Clemson, Oklahoma he would limit the offense with predictable 1st & 2nd down plays and should have started Dwyane over JT (but his loyalty to JT cost him, and even his job with the whole Zach Smith nonsense - I really hate Zach Smith). In my opinion, Jim has nothing beaten a good team or won a significant game against a team at its prime since Florida 2016, which shows how underachieving (in my opinion) Jim has being. Also Don Brown is really good against bad offenses, but I've noticed his defense are always lacking against equal or better talent (especially with good offenses); doesn't mean he should be fired, but that Michigan fans should never expect the tenacity they see against teams like Maryland vs teams like FSU 2016, OSU 2018, Penn State (with a healthy QB), or even Colorado 2016 (with a healthy QB of course). That means when UM is in a high scoring game like the OSU game and PSU game from last year, they must be able to match that intensity. Your defense will not be able to shutdown teams everygame, so the offense must be ready for shootouts when it needs to. That is my biggest reason why I think Jim needs to change or leave.

While I will always dislike UM, I still respect that you are fans and just want something to excited about and I can definitely understand that.

(I think you mean "subjective") - There's no such thing as an "objective opinion." The two words are incongruous to one another. (edit... and you changed it...) Other than that, you make a reasonable argument about not being afraid to go all "Dana Holgersen," open it up, and win the fu*&ing game. The two things I think Pep may be guilty of are being somewhat unimaginative, and overcoaching games. "Body blows" as a general strategy is a solid one against teams with inferior talent, but tends to become a plodding approach when matched against teams with both talent and depth, because the pounding doesn't compound like it would otherwise. "Body blows" is also an attempt at control, but when the team finds itself in a boat race, they need to have the potential and capability to go full Big 12, not just continue to plod along.

Agree.  All that came from the NFL Harbaugh complexity and confusion and Lions karma.  Its the old school attitude.

I will beat you and DEMEAN YOU  into winning.  Go see and find.  This is working.

We  have a 5 star QB and college sitters that think they are ready but cant perform.  Good luck.

I really do appreciate that you guys didn't kill me for being on a Michigan like the others you guys make fun of being trolls. But yeah, I just think Michigan has the talent to compete at an elite level. I mean Oklahoma does this with the same level of talent as Michigan and they entered the playoffs more than my team has it shows. You have to adapt around your players and not be stubborn to run the stuff you want so much. I always knew Dwayne Haskins would be really good, but I always reserved to how Urban would use him, cause he loves the QB run so much. Thankfully Ryan Day is a guy who forced Urban to change his style against. It's literally the only reason we had success against you guys this years (on top of the fact that UM's defense didn't stop a crossing route that OSU ran literally all year, but I'm not complaining). I'm guessing this site has already talked so much about it, but a new OC that will force Jim to change would be the best way for fans to feel better about JIm (but that obviously depends to on Jim hiring a new OC).

i may disagree with some of what you said, but i do agree with the tone it was said/written.  sorry for the folks that were mocking you, bad form on their part.

and jim should probably open up the offense, but not to the point that if he doesn't he should go.  he is a maniac, but he is clean as a whistle and his love for his school is exemplary.  we might end up being a wisconsin style, 9-10 win team year in and year out, but i highly doubt we'll have any of the decades of scandals that have marred your school's reputation.  i'm good with that.  anything else is icing.  i'll take integrity over championships 100% of the time.

Is anyone fooled by this? First, the post contains zero insight, not one statement in it hasn't already been written repeatedly on the blog (by fans and trolls alike, but mostly trolls).

Second, you take all those same statements and gussie them up a bit.  No swearing, no anger, just a gentle, "he needs to change or go."

I just don't buy that you are posting your opinion to be helpful and out of respect for our fanbase. I think you're just taking trolling to another level.

Please take this any way you want, but there are so many miserable cunts on this site that it is nearly unbearable.

You have taken something beautiful, and destroyed it. I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

Those are pretty cool! Thanks for sharing.

How about some players we'd like to see send a welcome message.

Desmond doing the Heisman pose in the endzone!

Woodson with the one hand interception!

A.C. running into the endzone versus Indiana!

Biakabutuka bludgeoning OSU!

Peppers breaking the tape in the endzone!

Wow, it feels like these guys all came and went so fast.

Seeing all of these makes you realize the statement is true:  It's not a 4 year (or less) decision to come to Michigan, it's a lifetime decision.

They will always be part of the Michigan family and welcomed with open arms.

The negative posters will come out and say that none of these guys were Harbaugh recruits/players. Which is an unfortunate fact.

I really think this shit is over blown..... 2017 can be explained by our #1 QB being injured and our #2 actually being #3 quality and #3 not being ready.  Oh, by the way, our #1 was a 3* QB with an unimpressive list of offers, signed by Brady Hoke.

2016 was seriously three bad bounces and a 50/50 call from being an undefeated season.

2018 started with 2 receptions that should have been picked if not broken up vs. ND and one terrible game vs you know who....    Seriously, ONE BAD GAME!

I've said it before, Jim took over a team that was a mess for a decade, not a championship contender..  The team has improved year over year.  He will end year four with a top 10 team, top 15 team for the 3rd time in 4 years.  Michigan football is fine and is improving.   We would all like to have competed for the B1G Ten Championship, but all is not lost.  Onward!

Good post OP.  I rarely even look at my Twitter account so this was welcomed.

And very good PR at an opportune time.

I always wonder how people can perform such great moves. I'm bad at marketing. I always rely on specialists and the result of their work always amazes me. Today I'm in search of a digital marketing agency. I read positive opinions and reviews about Operatio Marketing and thus I'm thinking of them. But maybe you can advise other options?

Choosing the right marketing moves is really difficult. After all, there are so many strategies and it's difficult to know everything about them. I read about Refersion platform recently and this article helped me to discover the world of affiliate marketing, for instance. Now I use it as other types of it.

I think this is a very good strategy. We have recently studied various marketing strategies at university and it was interesting to study the materials on the topic and various examples of their application like this one. Especially recently I read the article [SPAM LINK DELETED] and it talked about how you can try yourself in marketing while still studying. And doing marketing for your college sports team is a great way of training.
