OT - Online bid pushes for restoring counseling fund for Nassar victims

Submitted by bringthewood on December 17th, 2018 at 9:45 AM

John Engler and company cancelled a $10 million Healing Assistance Fund. The fund was established a year ago to help with counseling Nassar's sexual abuse victims.

If you have followed this story you know that Engler and the BOT has been very callous towards the survivors.

There is a push to try to apply pressure to MSU to restore the fund.

I know it is MSU and it is doubtful that they will respond to public pressure ... and it seem unfortunate that their Alumni don't give two shits about this topic either.

I believe there is a more charitable explanation for this than to merely believe that Engler and MSU are flipping the double bird to Nassar/MSU victims.

You see, all the Famous Dave's gift cards Engler received last Christmas have run out. He needed a couple million for ribs and BBQ chicken, so there was an obvious need for Engler to have a couple million in food gift cards available at any time.

Don't be so hard on Engler.

Threads like this and posters like this are why this place has gone downhill so badly. I know being a mod is a thankless pay free task but the moderation here is piss poor. They let one note trolling posters run wild with no repercussions whatsoever. I respect the mods but don't really understand why they let so much shit go.

Well, for a long time, it was a staffing issue basically - keep in mind that we don't get paid for it, we all have full-time employment not related to the blog and for a while, moderating in the new format was weird and less forgiving than the old one. That said, new mods have been brought on and hopefully it gets better for everyone.

As for myself, I don't read every thread quite honestly, just a statistically significant sample. I rely to some extent on people either hitting me on Twitter or e-mail for reporting, but when people don't do that, then, well....

I agree with LSAClassOf2000 - I filter through discussions but do not read every single thread and continually refresh all day long for new comments.  I count on the Moderation Action Sticky thread for some help, and then sometimes I just happen to come across it while reading comments.

To give you an idea of the amount of posts here, even on a slow Tuesday, there is a new comment about every 30 seconds.  There have been 326 comments made since 1:00 AM ET last night.

Looks like i missed something :-/

I really appreciate MGo Will's method of editing the comment, with explanation, so we know at a glance that there was a bannable comment and which user.

That user had a pretty long leash for a while, too.
