BBall Recruiting - New 2021 Target/Julian Roper
2021 Target Julian Roper. Can certainly see the staff offering this kid come next June if Coach Beilein feels we need a guard in the 2021 class...........checks every single box.

"Being approximately 45 minutes away from Ann Arbor, the sophomore had the opportunity to take a visit recently to last year’s National runner-up, Michigan. Julian has high remarks for the way the Wolverine staff connects with prospects during the recruiting process.
“With Michigan they’re really cool. Talking to the coaches and they have me with the other recruits and commits. They just do good with building relationships. Coach Saddi even came to my first game this year.”
...
Coming from a close-knit family that has always emphasized education, Julian is quick to point out that academics loom large in the decision-making process when the time comes.
“Yes, academics will for sure be a big factor in which school I choose in a few years.”
I think these comments bode well for Coach Beilein and staff.

I'm a bit closer to this recruitment than usual, as I've known Julian's Dad for over 20 years. That said, I think Julian checks all the boxes for Coach Beilein and if he continues to develop on the court (which I believe he will), he certainly fits the bill with respect to off-court preferences of Coach Beilein (two-parent family, humble, no red flags, good academic standing)

I like his tape-a lot...what is he, 15 years old? Looks like there's a very high ceiling.
What I really like about all these clips is that the kids makes 100% of their shots, get all the rebounds and all the assists...it is simply amazing !!! ;)

What I love about Ju (what we call him) is not only is he a high-level shotmaker from all 3 levels, but his on-ball defense. This clip of him against a notable prospect is extremely impressive, but most probably just disregard

Is that Emoni Bates that he was guarding in the video?

Yes sir. Stayed in front of him with relative ease, which is no small task.

D so good he made the other player pretend like he got hit in the eye.

Thank goodness he is a better hooper than his dad! lol. Dad was a great athlete though

Dad was certainly an explosive athlete in HS. More notable than his athletic accomplishments though, Dad is a great person and first class guy, raising a great kid along with his wife.

Really good dude! I remember when Rope told us he was having a kid.

What is his father's name?

Let's be honest though - at certain times of day, you'd probably spend 45 minutes just trying to get back onto 13 Mile from the Country Day parking lot.
In all seriousness though, everything sounds like a plus in favor of Michigan.

Tell me about it. I've had my struggles there in recent years. With the HS and middle school being combined/located on the same grounds, the parking lot simply isn't equipped to handle that sort of volume when its time for dismissal.

Can you give a bit of an outline for the 2020 class? How many guys we'll probably take? Likely targets? Most realistic commits alongside Zeb Jackson?

I will try to generate an article on the 2020 class in the near future

Thanks for this, Matt. Always appreciate your updates on hoops’ recruiting.

Always a pleasure to share recruiting insight/evaluations with a great community like MGo. And certainly appreciate Brian giving me the OK to post my content here, as MGo does a great job with basketball content independent of anything I provide.
I'll try to be a bit more active, as I've been hit or miss this year as I've been dealing with my daughter's recruitment/visits.
