Stu Douglass "Not Mainstream" Podcast, Episode 7
Episode 7 of Stu's podcast "Not Mainstream" was released yesterday (Anchor or iTunes). The summary is as follows:
College coaches get too much credit for the development and play of under-the-radar kids, nit picking potential problems that could arise for Michigan basketball, everyone needs to take it easy on the Michigan bench guys and why it's very difficult to crack Beilein's rotation mid-season, interview questions from college I would answer differently now (aka with more truth), and more Twitter questions!
Pretty cool view into past teams and how we should interpret things happening now. He also shouts out an MGoComment on the South Carolina recap.

He may have a future doing this. You can tell he is beginning to learn the craft. He goes to bat for Austin Davis with empathy and relays what it is like to not be considered a leader or a star in Beilein’s eyes. He has pretty good self deprecating humor. Also, he graduated from Carmel High School - go hounds!

I've listened to a few of these podcasts and they all just kind of suck. I sure hope he has a day job because I can't see him being successful as a podcaster once he runs out of Beilein stories.

He plays professional basketball in Israel. This is a hobby, but he aspires to be a professional sports personality (per what he says in his podcasts). No doubt, he has a ways to go.

You are--of course--not required to listen. And--perhaps also obviously--no one was waiting for your verdict. But now that you are here tell us all about your skills, how they compare on the bball and broadcasting fronts.

While I think the critique was snarky and not constructive, I hate the premise that a person can’t have an opinion about something unless they meet some sort of skill bar. The poster is a sports fan, sharing his opinion on a sports blog about a sports podcast. That’s the only credential he needs.

Absolutely agree that sharing opinions is great. But to be so uninterestingly negative toward one of M's wonderful former players--guy who helped Beilein get established here, member of one of the period's most memorable teams--is in MY opinion lame.

fun fact, the title of this podcast comes from mgoblog user mad magician. He wrote this article and Stu liked the header photo so much that it has been his twitter profile pic ever since.

What does he have to say about not being a star’s impact? Who does he credit for the development of players? From the summary, there sounds like potential bitterness from a former player. Of course players have a huge role in their own growth, and I have observed Beilein is stubborn to play players until they can do twenty backflips blindfolded, but what has Austin Davis and the Blame McLimans of the world done to prove playing time? If a coach asks for a certain thing, listen to them and do it. The more talented, The I get the leash—but he often benched Moe early in his career due to his foul troubles and would leave him there for the rest of the game. Zavier has to re-earn his position. So what does Stu actually say? The summmary is pretty vague and seemingly critical of a coach who has taken UM to two Tourney finals and more Final Fours.

Why don't you listen to it instead of asking everyone else for the recap?

STUUUUUUU!!!
Most memorable victory of his career? Why is Beileins system so hard for supposedly more athletic teams to defend against?

probably 2011 @Breslin
