Ohio State DT Dre'Mont Jones to declare for draft (and play in bowl game)
Not that big of a surprise considering Dre'Mont Jones almost declared last year before deciding to return for his redshirt junior season. Jones is currently projected as a late 1st rounder/early 2nd rounder.
I'm grateful for any move that gives us a better chance in The Game next year.
Ohio State defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones confirms that he will declare for the 2019 NFL draft, but is planning to play in the Rose Bowl.

honestly, who cares? Not trying to be a dick, but we have 300+ days to prepare to beat these guys....
beat Florida.

Agreed.

For me, I usually need a couple hours to prepare for The Game. Beer, Gin, Ice, Tonic, Aspirin. Done. If you need 300 days, you are doing it wrong.

Serious response: I care. I like keeping up with who is leaving from the teams that we play next year, especially when it’s a top player from our major rival.
What else is there to talk about that is football related? This time of year, it’s recruiting, coaching moves and who’s going pro.

and you just summed up why we haven't won in 7 straight years. They think about how they can beat us and ways to beat us 364 days a year, the 1 day they aren't thinking about it they ARE beating us. They take this game more serious. the whole why do today what you can put off till tomorrow attitude is why we had 62 points put on us. The whole freaking state needs to start thinking and worrying about how we can beat them now.

Good for him for playing in the Rose Bowl. I understand why certain guys sit, but as a fan, I wish they would just finish the season in the bowl game.

Same here. I understand it from a financial / risk-reward standpoint but to me, the guys who blow off the bowl game are showing that they care more about themselves than the team. Again, I’m not really criticizing why they do it - I get it - but to me, I always look more favorably on guys who put the team above themselves.

Pretty much known 2 weeks ago when he said he wasn't sure whether he would play in the Rose Bowl...that was a big clue.
He could have declared for the NFL last year, but elected to go back to school. So it was almost certain he was done after this year.

OK, congrats dude, now let's all throw a party and move on...

Whoop dee fucking doo. And if you think this gives us a better chance next year, you know that OSU probably has another five star or really high four star waiting right behind him to take over?
They're reloading pal.
December 12th, 2018 at 4:59 PM ^
Only player on their team that deserves a thread for declaring is probably Haskins at this point.
I already hate Tate Martell so much
December 13th, 2018 at 8:52 AM ^
It might not be Tate Martell. They have a freshman named Matthew Baldwin who has a cannon for an arm and fits into Day's scheme better than Martell

Fuck Ohio

Real men play in the bowl game.
December 13th, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^
There are plenty of players who are in college only because the current system forces them to take a three-year unpaid internship to have a chance at the NFL. In my opinion, that perspective is totally fair. It's pretty well established that skipping a bowl game doesn't affect NFL draft status, so if a player's perspective is that college is to get ready for a paid job, why would he take the risk of playing in the bowl game?
Real men do what's right for them, whether that's making sound financial decisions or something else.

Their defense didn’t put up 55 points. Jones leaving makes no difference next year.
December 12th, 2018 at 5:55 PM ^
[INSERT NEXT 5* or HIGH 4*]
December 12th, 2018 at 7:43 PM ^
The backup for Jones is Haskell Garrett, played at Bishop Gorman, same school that Martell played at, ranked 68th overall in 2017. Also In the mix will be 5 * Taron Vincent and Tommy Togiai, the overall 55th player in 2018. Young players but yes 5* and high 4*.

I don’t get why everyone on this thread is so critical of this post. Yes, OSU almost certainly has another four star or five star ready to take his place, but all things being equal, this still weakens their team. They are better with him next year then without him. It could also hurt depth, depending who is behind their current back up. Again, yes they will definitely reload, but anything that even gives us a slight advantage I will take at this point.
December 12th, 2018 at 7:53 PM ^
I'm happy anytime these go early. Bosa, Jones, & Haskins are 3 guys that would make an impact if they returned, and all are likely gone. However, they recruit very well and they always reload. But, it's still newsworthy.

Clearly this man is big enough for the NFL. That's why I approve of his decision. Much bigger than Shea, Long, or Hill.
