December 12th, 2018 at 11:29 AM ^
Heed the warnings, young Shea! One more year in the system and you’ll be #1 with a bullet!
December 12th, 2018 at 11:31 AM ^
Gardner Minshew and Easton Stick are good all name team candidates.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:37 AM ^
With a name like Easton Stick, he should be playing hockey.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:59 AM ^
Baseball would get him millions in endorsements. Easton could even come up with a bat called the "Easton Stick", and would get free prime space advertising on the back of his jersey.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:01 PM ^
But Easton already makes hockey sticks...
December 12th, 2018 at 12:12 PM ^
Easton makes a shitload more money on baseball bats, also referred to as sticks, as in "grab a stick, you are on deck".
Besides, you could have both. Nobody would get confused on which to buy for a specific sport. Take that back - nobody except for the geniuses on the RCMB would get confused...
December 12th, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
Not anymore-- Sold off their hockey division to Bauer a couple of years ago...
December 12th, 2018 at 12:10 PM ^
Easton no longer sells hockey sticks, so that's out.
It looks like they do make wooden bats, though, so baseball it is.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:33 AM ^
Why is Kyler Murray not on this list, is he that much of a system guy, oh wait, Baker did get drafted???
December 12th, 2018 at 11:36 AM ^
I thought KM was quitting football to play baseball.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:38 AM ^
Yup. He was a first round draft pick for Oakland As
December 12th, 2018 at 11:42 AM ^
Drew Henson 2.0???
December 12th, 2018 at 12:03 PM ^
No, because Murray will probably be good at baseball, and isn't being hired by one of his rival's richest supporters (Steinbrenner).
December 15th, 2018 at 5:39 PM ^
and the fact he is 5'8", they list him as 5"10" but I can PROMISE you guys, he is NOT 5'10". I stood next to him twice when he was Texas A&M and I am 5'9" (5'10 when I spike my hair ) and I was taller than he was. I get that he is athletic and as I heard Ian Fitzsimmons say " you couldn't catch him playing flag football in a phone booth" hahahaha but he would get MURDERED in the NFL. Could you imagine someone like JJ Watt coming around the end untouched hitting him? he would knock his soul out of his body
December 12th, 2018 at 12:45 PM ^
Murray was drafted as an outfielder
December 12th, 2018 at 11:36 AM ^
No Hill or Long in the cornerbacks either:
Cornerbacks
- *Greedy Williams, LSU (6-1, 189, 4.47)
- *Byron Murphy, Washington (5-10, 185, 4.48)
- Deandre Baker, Georgia (5-11, 186, 4.53)
- *Trevon Diggs, Alabama (6-1, 198, 4.50)
- Rock Ya-Sin, Temple (6-1, 190, 4.53)
- *Joejuan Williams, Vanderbilt (6-2, 211, 4.55)
- *Trayvon Mullen, Clemson (6-1, 192, 4.49)
- *Bryce Hall, Virginia (6-1, 199, 4.53)
- *Kristian Fulton, LSU (6-1, 191, 4.47)
- Amani Oruwariye, Penn State (6-0, 202, 4.54)
I guess we should see them back too.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
Are these just listing players that have declared. I bet both Hill and Long would be here if they choose to declare
December 12th, 2018 at 11:57 AM ^
That's what I'm wondering about Shea as well. Not that I think he'd be rated all that high.
December 15th, 2018 at 5:42 PM ^
No because Haskins hasn't declared nor has Herbert. I saw another list of ranked QB's playing in all the bowl games and they had Shea at 16. Their comments were he goes off script too much for NFL team likings and is too inconsistent. They also knocked his arm strength pretty good. I mean shit how many f'ing balls did he under throw in The Game. It was nauseating.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:03 PM ^
Herbert and Haskins haven't declared yet but are 1 and 2 on the QB list.
December 12th, 2018 at 1:22 PM ^
Justin Herbert hasn't declared for the draft, so I don't think so.
December 12th, 2018 at 1:39 PM ^
Herbert is expected to stay in college one more year and not declare.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:54 AM ^
I honestly thought you copied and pasted the names from the Key and Peele skit into your list.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:26 PM ^
They both should come back as neither is really ready for the NFL but guessing at least one makes the mistake and leaves
December 12th, 2018 at 12:39 PM ^
All of those guys could be drafted in the second. That is unlikely but possible.
I think if Hill or Long thought they would be drafted in the 3rd round they would leave.
My expectation has always been that 1 will leave and 1 will stay.
Personal belief Long leaves and Hill stays. I think Hill playing opposite Thomas plays some factor in the decision now that he isnt going in the 1st or 2nd.
December 12th, 2018 at 1:42 PM ^
Jourdan Lewis was a late 3rd round pick and is now a 3rd (or even 4th) CB for the Cowboys. Are Long or Hill better prospects right now than JL when he was drafted?
I think both of our CBs are great but sometimes my homerism clouds objectivity.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:39 AM ^
Great so we get everyone back except Gary, Bush, Chase, and Karan pretty much? I'll take it.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:14 PM ^
Still could lose David Long and/or Lavert Hill too.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
Not an expert. But if Shea is behind Gardner Minshew of Washington State and Easton Stick from that powerhouse at North Dakota State - he should come back and improve his position for next year.
We got some guys - DPJ, Black, Collins, to name a few - that will help him get that draft stock up.
Some things are a no-brainer - this is one of them.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:00 PM ^
What good are those weapons that you speak of if we grossly underutilize them? How is passing less than 40% of the snaps going to improve his draft stock? Harbaugh has to sell Shea on a different plan of attack next year on offense than telling him we're going to run the same stuff again.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:07 PM ^
I think next year we see Harbaugh start to lean a little more on Shea. I love Chris Evans, but they don't utilize his skillset appropriately. There is no reason he should not have been targeted 3 or 4 times a game on a flare/swing pass or a screen. He is deadly in the open field, and he only really came in to spell Karan and run between the tackles. I understand that Harbaugh is stubborn and wants to run manball, but I think he is plenty smart enough to understand that next year he is finally going to have an OLine and a quarterback that he can rely on enough to truly open up his playbook. We wont have the automatic 3 yard gain from Karan, so I can see him putting the ball in Shea's hands a few more times a game. Not to mention the trio of outside receivers will be that much further along. Wouldn't mind watching Shea arm-punt us into the B1G championship game. He could be like McSorley, if McSorley wasn't bad.
December 12th, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
Frank Gore's worst stretch of pass receptions in his career was under Harbaugh in San Francisco.
Four years prior to Harbaugh in San Francisco: 196 catches
Four years with Harbaugh in San Francisco: 72 catches
Four years post-Harbaugh in SF/IND/MIA: 113 catches
Michigan also should have used Ty Isaac as a receiver out of the backfield, but they didn't do much of that at Michigan, either.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:58 PM ^
How is Shea going to up his stock when he plays in an offense that doesn’t showcase his talent? The best thing for Shea would be to graduate early and transfer to Oklahoma. Compare his sophomore year stats at Ole Miss and this season at UM - Shea had as many yards passing in seven games at Ole Miss as he had in 12 at UM. Shea went from the experts talking about an early Heisman hopeful to a draft day dud.
Gary is sitting out the bowl game because he doesn’t want to risk getting injured and losing out on millions of dollars. Why should Shea stick around and play in an offense that is not going to feature the QB or a modern offense and watch his draft status plunge?
He is wasting his time showing NFL scouts he’s good at handing the ball off.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:56 PM ^
You joke about NDSU, but they have won 6 of the last 7 FCS championships and are currently in the semifinals for another. I'm betting that has something to do with having a decent QB.
December 12th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
Carsen Wentz won a bunch of those championships at NDSU before Philly took him early.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:48 AM ^
Why are certain players bolded?
December 12th, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^
I'm not sure but I think * are true juniors and bolded are redshirt juniors.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:51 AM ^
Let's see what goes down during the bowl game.
December 12th, 2018 at 11:52 AM ^
Shea should definitely come back. This is just my observation, but during the draft evaluation process...
If you're shorter than average (6'3"ish for a QB, let's say), they will harp on your faults.
If you're taller than average, you're "full of potential" and "a physical specimen" no matter how you performed in college.
Scouts, talking heads, and GMs can be incredibly stupid
December 12th, 2018 at 11:54 AM ^
100% return.
Offense is going to be loaded next year.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:05 PM ^
I guarantee Shea is returning.
December 14th, 2018 at 2:43 AM ^
You’re not great with guarantees just as n observation
December 12th, 2018 at 12:11 PM ^
He should probably stay another year but even if he leaves, Dylan will do a great job. My guess is that Peterson will probably leave once he graduates next fall.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:12 PM ^
FWIW the 11th QB drafted in 2018 didnt go until the first pick of the 7th round. Only 10 QBs were drafted in 2017 if my scouring of Wikipedia is correct.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:14 PM ^
No Brian Lewerki? I figured his August Heisman would have been worth more.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:31 PM ^
Dantonio's decision to play him while clearly injured may have cost the guy a career.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:28 PM ^
Looks like Will Grier better suit up in the bowl game. It's new to see 3rd rounders sit out.
December 15th, 2018 at 5:52 PM ^
That was exactly my comment when he said he was sitting. I thought wow, someone is giving him some seriously bad advice. His bowl game could have maybe upped his draft stock but sitting out you are relying on NFL talent scouts and GM's remembering your body of work only and letting all the other QB's that are playing get more screen time. Makes absolutely no sense to me.
December 12th, 2018 at 12:34 PM ^
Think it was already leaning that way.
