Recruiting: Zach Harrison to Announce Next Week

Submitted by MJ14 on December 11th, 2018 at 9:33 PM

5-star DE Zach Harrison will tweet out his college decision next Wednesday and fax in his NLOI. He isn’t having a ceremony and there will be no interviews, which is consistent with how he’s handled his entire recruitment. down to OSU, UM and PSU. https://t.co/WnlVMVq0gF

Why? His decision does not make or break beating Osu. We got Gary, we got Peppers, we got Shea... still no win over Osu. This is a team thing, man up buck lol.

While I'm all for keeping our fandom in check and having some perspective in our lives.  We all know how important recruiting is to the success of the program we love.  And, we all know how frustrated we have become by losing so much to OSU.  So, a top recruit choosing between UM and two divisional foes, whom would be the top recruit in any of their classes, is a big deal.  Let's not diminish his importance of whomever he chooses.

Yes...

BUT if you live within an hour of Columbus, and you are choosing Ohio State - even if you are a quiet teenager, don't you do something a little bit public?  Some cake - perhaps some subs?  Can he be that quiet?

If this was a kid from Brighton - I would not consider a private tweet to be a good sign as a Michigan fan.

C'mon now...

not to mention letting it slip to friends, teachers, coaches, parents who then spread word like wildfire.

So I guess my take is if its going to be OSU we will be given a warning before going in blind.

Sidenote: I want Michigan to go after EVERY Bama commit til Saban is gone. Hire another recruiting guy whos only job it to recruit Bama commits. Maybe team up with 1 or 2 more teams and share information about the player. Fuck Alabama.

The funny thing is that his twitter is private, so like 5 people will be able to see whatever he tweets out. Someone else is just going to tell us what happens. I really do like this kid, he hates recruiting and publicity.

I agree. Whatever his decision, I like his approach. He’s declining what most kids see as a great opportunity to celebrate themselves. I’ll always admire future NFL Hall of Famer Joe Thomas for choosing to go fishing with his dad over attending the NFL draft, even though he was going to be one of the top picks.

That’s my issue with how much adults have put the limelight on these kids to where the recruits think they are more than just an object. How many actually worry about these kids, including the kids themselves?

My problem with the Dax Hill decommittment was his delusion that he was “keeping it 100”—but he seemed to be asking for people to not react. How have people not learned: if you make your life choices up for public consumption and you get gratification from tweeting your future, expect blow back. Free speech allows everyone to say anything, so asking to be left alone after a big commitment change is a ludicrous expectation. One cannot be authentic, make big changes, and expect no hurt feelings.

That’s the sad truth of our current social media addictions. People put too much into these kids like they’re a damn TV show. We are living The Truman Show.
