Detroit Lions path to Superbowl Glory!!!
All we need to make the playoffs this year is...
1. Lions win out
2. Vikings lost to Lions Bears/Dolphins
3. Eagles lose to Rams
4. Redskins lose 2 games
5. Panthers lose 1 game
6. Packers lose to Lions
7. Buccaneers lose 1 game
Honestly i started posting this as a joke. But the only thing in doubt on this list as a possibility is the Lions win out. But if they beat the Vikings, that becomes a realistic possibility. With only the Packers and Bills to play besides Minnesota.
Feel free to refile this post in the What are you smoking thread.

I was wondering this myself this morning This isn’t impossible

"This isn't impossible"
So, you been a Lions fan for...what...10 minutes?
December 11th, 2018 at 12:00 PM ^
I'm pretty sure the hallmark of a real Lions fan is concocting the fantasy, hoping enough that it'll happen to pay attention, and once they are eliminated going back to flatline emotionally
I've been a fan my whole life (and I'm 50), and this piqued my interest enough to pay attention this weekend. Key is not to invest too much emotion in the Lions, because the inevitable fail IS coming.
Good thing is the Wings are interesting enough this year that I've been getting a head start on switching from football to hockey season.
December 11th, 2018 at 12:06 PM ^
I'm 50 as well and your assessment is spot on. I approach it from a different angle, I avoid the emotional investment from the beginning and not even entertain the possibility of any success. Over the last few years, I'd get excited about a few wins, get emotionally invested and then get crushed. This year, I promised myself that after their 3-3 start and the week 7 loss, I wasn't going to pay attention until they got back to .500 ... and we all know how that's turned out.
Wings help, UM hoops helps, believe it or not the Pistons are helping a bit...but definitely going to milk UM basketball for all I can because the Tigers surely aren't going to help.

wait, why do we need the skins to lose? if we win our division, we're in the playoffs. then keep winning and sure, lions in the super bowl.
and you will win the lottery twice. in a row. in 3 different countries. without buying a ticket.
December 11th, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
There's no way to win the division at this point. Playing for wild card.
December 11th, 2018 at 1:26 PM ^
Forgot one step in this process: Collect underpants.

Friends don't let friends root for the Lions... seriously. I've got a friend who is consistently fighting anger/frustration/depression because of them. I keep telling him to look for a team that has a chance and root for them instead. It's no use... he's a goner.
December 11th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
You have a good point, but only if you take the Lions seriously. I'm 57; I've followed the Lions since I was a young boy. One win in the playoffs, in my lifetime! I prefer to think of them as a football-themed improvisational comedy troup.
December 11th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
Your friend needs help. I'm a fan, but being a fan who gets emotionally invested in the Lions would be like being a college football fan emotionally invested in Illinois or Vanderbilt going to the CFP.
You KNOW they aren't going to win it all, so why get bent? And if they do win it all some day, I'm burning down half the state.
December 11th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
First thought that came to mind ... :)

*facepalm*

It's Happening.
December 11th, 2018 at 11:36 AM ^
You failed at "win out"
December 11th, 2018 at 11:37 AM ^
All of those events are, of course, plausible.
I mean, except for the Lions winning out.
December 11th, 2018 at 11:38 AM ^
What will happen is the Lions will win out but only to ensure they go from the 6th pick in the draft to the 19th and still miss the playoffs. The 3 game win streak in meaningless games at the end of the season is another great Lions tradition.

Sterilization. Look into it.
December 11th, 2018 at 11:51 AM ^
THAT is a solid comment. Well done, sir!
December 11th, 2018 at 12:05 PM ^
Speaking from experience, I see.
December 11th, 2018 at 11:40 AM ^
I'm 50 years old, overweight, and have a prosthetic right leg. I have a better shot at making the super bowl than the lions do.
December 11th, 2018 at 12:06 PM ^
Only way the lions make it to the Super Bowl is if they buy tickets.
Thank you to the ford family for 55 years of football incompetence and 1 playoff win. Can't wait until Detroit gets a professional football team!
December 11th, 2018 at 12:27 PM ^
is this a merchandising opportunity? sell professionally printed head bags outside the lions game.
1) print humorous paper head bags
2) sell bags outside games to fans walking in
3) lions continue to suck
4) profit

"What's that next to me Dad?"
"That's you in 30 years son."
December 11th, 2018 at 1:36 PM ^
Wasn't a promising start to the Ford Era
December 11th, 2018 at 1:51 PM ^
I wish whoever threatened to fight would have fought and won.
December 11th, 2018 at 2:24 PM ^
"Can't wait until Detroit gets a professional football team!"
Well, we actually did. Won a championship, too.
With Anthony Carter, no less.
"On July 17, 1983, the Panthers captured the USFL's first championship with a 24–22 win over the Atlantic Division champion Philadelphia Stars. QB Bobby Hebert hit WR Anthony Carter on a 48-yard touchdown strike with 11:59 left in the fourth quarter for what proved to be the deciding score. Hebert was named MVP of the game, throwing for 319 yards and three touchdowns."

i think i went to a panthers game around 83 or 84. i was really young and barely remember but AC was one of my absolute favorite players when i was about 7. Harbaugh, Leroy Hoard, and Jerrod Bunch would also be my favorites from the mid-80s.
December 11th, 2018 at 8:04 PM ^
I was thinking about that team as that was a great season for Detroiters! Fuck the lie-downs!
December 11th, 2018 at 11:40 AM ^
They have won one playoff game in my lifetime and I am not a young whipper snapper. I will eat a lemon Hatter style if they get to the Superbowl.
December 11th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
Locked for posterity! Are you talking this year or ever? I'd say your odds are good either way.
December 11th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
i believe comment locking doesn't work anymore.
December 11th, 2018 at 11:41 AM ^
Playoffs! Playoffs? You kidding me. Playoffs? I just hope we can win another game!
December 11th, 2018 at 1:38 PM ^
Wish Jim Mora Sr had coached the Lions at some point. "Diddly-poo" would be a near-weekly utterance.
December 11th, 2018 at 11:42 AM ^
1 and 6 don't happen. I could see the rest happening though. Minnesota doesn't look nearly as good as they did earlier this season.
Instead of the 6th or 7th pick we get 14 or 15.
December 11th, 2018 at 11:45 AM ^
1 likely won't happen, but if GB is eliminated from the playoffs, I doubt they play a still-injured Aaron Rodgers.
December 11th, 2018 at 12:04 PM ^
Oh good. Lions can help get the Packers backup paid again.
December 11th, 2018 at 12:31 PM ^
It's tradition - don't mess with it...
December 11th, 2018 at 11:44 AM ^
Move to Oakland
December 11th, 2018 at 11:45 AM ^
All of these things will happen and the Lions will just have to win the last game of the season to make it happen.
They'll lose.
December 11th, 2018 at 12:55 PM ^
Exactly what I was thinking. That would be peak Lions.
December 11th, 2018 at 1:59 PM ^
I was read all the comments looking for someone to make this exact point. Hasn't a similar scenario to this played out before in the last few years? The Lions are always in dire straights, needing everything to go right for their season to continue. Miraculously, it all does, but the Lions can't win the final game. They and fate do just enough to rope their fans back into a lost season just to crush them at the end. Its an annual tradition. This is why I've started rooting for these scenarios over the team now. I've become so dead to the Lions that I find their ineptitude humorous instead of despair inducing. Although, I am perplexed as to why Lions fans still don't end up on those most tortured fan base lists. For as often as they crash and burn when goals are right there for the taking, you'd think someone outside of Lions fans would notice
December 11th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
That's the path to Wild Card glory, which means another hamblasting in Chicago.
December 11th, 2018 at 1:50 PM ^
Exactly my thought. Our prize for winning the 6 seed? Going to 3-seed Chicago to be demolished.
I'd rather punt on this season and take the better draft pick, please.
December 11th, 2018 at 11:48 AM ^
1. Cut Stafford
December 11th, 2018 at 11:52 AM ^
The redskins losing two is a tough one. Obviously winning out is required, but still...also #6 is necessitated already by #1.
December 11th, 2018 at 12:16 PM ^
After Alex's Smith's injury I wouldn't be shocked if they lost all three remaining games. Unless you think Mark Sanchez or Josh Johnson will all of a sudden turn into good NFL QB's
December 11th, 2018 at 11:58 AM ^
I'm old enough to remember when the Lions were bad. It's really happening. Super Bowl bound Lions!!
December 11th, 2018 at 11:58 AM ^
Remembering that these are the Lions we are talking about I'm tempted to take all and any bets.
