Afternoon game thread
Not sure if a thread for the afternoon of games is worthwhile, but I'm bored.
Kentucky - Seton Hall was an incredibly entertaining game. Myles Powell of SH lit it up from everywhere in the 2H.
Indiana - Louisville up next. And others.
Other than Poole, seeing any great performances elsewhere today?

Go Army, beat navy
December 8th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
Too many friends at UM in Navy ROTC. Can't do it.
December 8th, 2018 at 3:28 PM ^
You need better friends.
December 8th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
My closest friend is a Naval officer. Go military service members always, but today, go Navy.
December 8th, 2018 at 2:48 PM ^
Kentucky-Seton Hall was absolutely crazy. Great job by the Hall to come back after the half-court buzzer beater at the end of regulation.
December 8th, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
That was easily the most entertaining game I've seen all year. In the Garden, two miracle threes within 1.5 seconds to end regulation, then 27 points scored in OT culminating with a clutch stepback-3 to win it for the underdog
December 8th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
It felt like a March game.
December 8th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
Army-Navy, best football game of the day!
December 8th, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
Don't want to promote the opponents - but Chris Silva was great for South Carolina today. 18 points, 12 boards, and kept South Carolina in it with his energy.
Seton Hall's Myles Powell had 28 today, with some money shots to help beat Kentucky. What a game that was!
December 8th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
Promote them. Hopefully they can win the SEC.
And Bryant is crazy athletic. He and Silva were impressive.
December 8th, 2018 at 3:34 PM ^
South Carolina lost to Wyoming who was 2-6 the game before this. They're going to be an SEC bottom feeder.
December 8th, 2018 at 3:40 PM ^
They start 3 freshmen, including both of their guards. And the dude above you is right - that freshman forward Bryant is a beast. We saw some decent athleticism from them today - and they will get better.
I bet they finish .500 or above in the SEC.
December 8th, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
You need to take road losses at Wyoming with a grain of salt. Wyoming isn't great, but they have a massive home-court advantage due to the elevation. (Laramie is at 7100').
I'm not saying South Carolina is good -- they're not -- and it doesn't explain Michigan's defensive inefficiency, but that's not the result I'd use to judge the Gamecocks.
December 8th, 2018 at 5:13 PM ^
Plus, Wyoming head coach Allen Edwards played for Frank Martin back in high school, and Edward's brother is a member of South Carolina's basketball staff. He's probably more familiar with Martin's game than most nonconference opponents.
December 8th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
I understand - but we are 10-0, ranked #5, and Jan-Apr going to be fun. Get over it...
December 8th, 2018 at 3:24 PM ^
Yes. This.
December 8th, 2018 at 2:54 PM ^
Nova's playing St. Joes in a Big 5 game right now, up 10 right before the half.
Xavier is down 6 at the half @Cinci in their rivalry game.
Illinois up 5 on UNLV and PSU up 11 on Colgate at the half.
NW beat DePaul earlier today at home helped by a 25-0 run in the second half to erase a 19 point deficit.
MSU escaped a mediocre Florida team 63-59 at Florida earlier.
December 8th, 2018 at 2:59 PM ^
And Sparty got a fortuitous bounce leading to a late clock bucket that sealed the game.
December 8th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
I think the whiny assholes who were on the Michigan-South Carolina thread should go check out that Sparty boxscore.
"To see a candle's light, one must take it into a dark place. This is the same as to see the good and be grateful, one must compare and contrast it with something worse - not better!" Ursula Le Guin
Do we really have to wait for Feb 24th? Bring on Sparty!!!
December 8th, 2018 at 3:30 PM ^
Florida was a KenPom favorite in that game. They have a mediocre record, but they're KenPom top 25 and Torvik top 15 (!).
December 8th, 2018 at 3:37 PM ^
Both of those metrics still have heavy preseason influences. If you look at Florida's resume they're 5-4 and their best wins are a neutral court against a bad Stanford team or a mediocre WVU team. They're not a good team.

Bambi - based on your comments in this thread...
December 8th, 2018 at 3:01 PM ^
For those of you are watching the Army-Navy pregame, anyone else have someone start cutting onions near you?
God bless these kids.
December 8th, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
One hell of an ending to the Kentucky-Seton Hall game.
December 8th, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
Agreed. Almost overlooked this one altogether actually, and I am glad I said "Ah, what the hell...." now.
December 8th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
Those teams scored 33 points combined in the last 5:02 of that game: a clutch bomb by Seton Hall with 1.5 seconds left to go up by 3, and half court prayer by Kentucky to send it to OT, and then Seton Hall outscored the Cats 14-13 in OT. Unreal. Best clutch back and forth I have seen this year!
December 8th, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
Mount Union beat John Hopkins to go to the championship for the 21 time in 25 years. Impressive to say the least
December 8th, 2018 at 6:40 PM ^
I watched UMHB Crusaders in Belton, Tx beat Louisiana College this year 86 to 0
December 8th, 2018 at 3:36 PM ^
I haven't watched Army this year at all and have assumed they were still true flexbone. But I haven't seen a traditional flexbone set from them in the first two drives. Is this a wrinkle for this game or is the offense they've been running much of the year?
December 8th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
Go Hoosiers. Hang on and take down Louisville.
Watching Louisville beat Sparty was kind of fun - have to admit it, the BIG-ACC Challenge not withstanding. But time for the BIG to show some - in the words of Wooderson - "fucking muscle"!
EDIT: They did. Hoosiers win 68-67. Nice win for a mid-tier BIG over a mid-tier ACC. And you know - Fuck Louisville, their cheating asses, their redneck fans and their shitty academics too!
The BIG is going to be tough this year!
December 8th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
Jayru Campbell sighting in the D2 semifinals for Ferris State on ESPN3. Good for him, for turning things around. After his issues as an MSU commit I guess he won a JUCO NC and now he could win a D2, as well. Did not know that.
December 8th, 2018 at 4:26 PM ^
Army is definitely winning the uniformz today
December 8th, 2018 at 5:27 PM ^
Navy's a sweet too.
These guys have some of the best alternates year after year.
December 8th, 2018 at 4:28 PM ^
IU-L'ville hasn't been as cleanly played as SH-KY, but the finish is a good one.
December 8th, 2018 at 5:17 PM ^
Ethan Happ in his 8th year at Wisconsin.
December 8th, 2018 at 6:05 PM ^
Wisconsin outshooting Marquette 54%-36% (Happ 6-8), out-rebounding Marquette - and only lead at half 33-32.
Only Wisconsin can take the "air out of their own balls".
Our whiny fans should pay attention, quit bitching about a double digit win over an SEC team, and thank the basketball gods for Beilein and this team...
December 8th, 2018 at 6:09 PM ^
Good Lord my Navy offense is bad! Hard to believe it is 10-7.
December 8th, 2018 at 8:58 PM ^
If they had a good QB (of any sort: pocket passer, dual-threat, wildcat, etc.) Navy wins this game. The rest of the teamed looked good enough.
December 8th, 2018 at 6:17 PM ^
Any chance Army will be ranked coming into AA next year? Will Don Brown address the crossing routes that Army will throw at him?
