Meta: Commenting Issue

Submitted by Michigan Shirt on December 6th, 2018 at 12:09 PM

Can we remove the reply button when trying to comment on a post? I don't know how many times I have hit reply instead of save only to have everything I typed deleted and then I have to start over. Super frustrating and I usually end up not commenting at all.

Wondering how many other people have this issue.

Colin Cowherd and ESPN pushing Harbaugh to Green Bay.  Now multiple shows on different networks are also reporting Harbaugh is Green Bay's top choice

I see a reminder that Harbaugh's family "lives in Ann Arbor" coming your way to dispel any possible mention that he could be a serious candidate for this job.

In all honesty though, there have been enough second hand reports in the last few days to conclude that Harbaugh is likely on the Green Bay's short list.  That has nothing to do with whether or not Harbaugh would want or take the job but I think it is approaching "safe" to assume that the Packers are interested.

The commenting is all jacked up. I so miss the Android app for 2.0 where you could get to spots in threads so much faster.

Also, does anyone else have to hit "save" twice? It never posts the first time.

In multiple page threads it would be cool if the page number selections were at the top of the comments instead of having to scroll all the way to the bottom.

Yes, and when you reply to a comment on anything but the last page of a muliple-page thread, it dumps you on the last page. Then you have to scroll down and choose whatever page you had been on, then scroll some more to find your comment.

I have a similar complaint with the Athletic. You'll get a notification that someone has replied to your comment, but when you tap it, it doesn't take you right to the comment itself. You still have to scroll and find, which is harder there because they collapse comment threads after 3 replies.

Why are these simple little tweaks so hard to implement?

I don’t understand what you are talking about. You click on “reply” on someone’s post to bring up the comment box and reply to them. Then you click either “save” to post the comment or “preview” to see if your gif or video will post correctly, in the comment box to post that reply. There is no other “reply” button in the comment box.

There is still a reply button above the comment window that will cause your text to be deleted and is essentially a re-reply. It's superfluous and has caught me a few times. I think it's because it is solid blue and sort of draws the eye a bit, but it also makes more logical sense as a submit button than save does.

I can honestly say that I have never had this problem and I have no clue how you have.  You hit "reply" to reply directly to a post and "save" to save it.  What's this other "reply" button you speak of?

I am pretty sure I've nearly hit it a few times, only to stop myself. I do agree with others though that the button is probably not necessarily in the described situation.

When you hit the wrong button just see that as an opportunity to have a second chance to moderate your self before posting something stupid.

Yes, many time I wished to have use the wrong button... Many time...
