MGoBoard poll: How many of you follow Michigan Hockey?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on December 6th, 2018 at 2:57 PM

I'd like to get as many responses as I can. I'm going to be writing a piece on Michigan Hockey's popularity and where it is in 2018.

I remember the days where MGoBlog would crash during the tournament games in the early 2010s.

Simple question. Do you follow Michigan Hockey like you do Football & Basketball?

I don't. My Michigan fandom on a scale of 1-10

Football: 10, MBB: 6, Hockey: 2

It's only because I didn't play or watch hockey as a kid.

Not like football and basketball.

I follow hockey come playoff time. I really like to catch some of the season games, but usually it ends up conflicting with something else (kids related).

YES. 100%. In fact I go to more hockey games than anything else.

May I make a suggestion? If you rename this thread "Poll" you may get a lot more real answers, especially if you make an actual poll people can fill out.

For example, if you titled it, "How many of you follow Michigan Baseball?" I wouldn't even click it.

Ya know, click-bait 'em a little.

No. Too hard to follow as so few of the games are on TV. I’ll go to one a year and read some of the articles posted, but won’t follow nearly as much as football and basketball.

Hockey season ticket holder who has followed the team closely since the late 80s.  Went to games when I was a student 73-79 then took a few years off.  Once my sons were starting hockey themselves we started going back to Yost.  Had to wait 2 or 3 years to get season tickets in the mid90s.

Huuuuuuge fan!!! And devastated by the suddenly poor TV coverage. Almost as bad, I didn't even notice how spoiled we were in the previous period where most games were on TV (and I'm speaking as a guy who'd been in PA and IN from 2008 to present).

Anyway, as a 2006 alumnus, I was present for a lot of great seasons. I was also there through a solid swath of lean basketball years. Always had season hockey tickets, never even attended a single basketball game. But before you reflexively hate me for that, think about the time:

one of those years (I can't remember which), the student hockey section was ~2,000 large and the student basketball section was ~200. Hockey was an enormous aspect of the social consciousness on campus and will therefore always be big for me.

Occasionally but moreso towards the end of the season and tourney. It bothers me that the game columns on here rarely mention the season record so obviously I'm not following all that closely.

If I lived in the area I'd go to games and be much more into it.

Much harder to follow when games aren't regularly televised live - though I do check scores/highlights, usually after games.

Hockey games were my favorite sporting event to attend while at Michigan - only regret was not getting season tickets before my senior year.

I follow what Brian writes about it, but it isn't easy to follow from DC due to lack of TV time.  When it comes to hockey I am a huge wings fan and I will say hockey is the one sport where I enjoy watching professional more than college.

I watch televised games.  I listen to the MGoHockeyCast.  I read the game summaries on MGoBlog.  I visit the USCHO site for the PairWise.  I no longer attend the games; maybe if I had won the raffle just once.

Michigan Hockey Rules.  BTN screws everything up.

I check results every weekend or so if I know they're playing. Just the score mostly and maybe a breakdown of the actual games.

Definitely watch the tournament each year.

When I get a chance I go to games but since I live on the East Coast now I haven't been to a game at Yost in ~5 years. Last time at the GLI was like 4 years ago.

I don't follow it to the level of football or basketball mostly because it's not on TV.

I follow in the sense that I pay attention to the team's record and occasionally catch a game  here and there, but I mainly jump on the bandwagon for the NCAA tournament.

Do not follow.  It's not televised much and there is other stuff to do/watch.  I also think college hockey is a significant quality downgrade from the NHL.  With NCAAF vs NFL or NBA vs NCAAB the products are "different" as opposed to an inferior product.

I follow Michigan hockey fairly closely, but I don't get to watch every game like I do with football.  I also watch more basketball, but I am a much bigger fan of the hockey team. As student at Michigan in the late 80s, I worked at Yost and attended every home game.  Great memories!  Go Blue!!

No. I would go to a couple games a year as a student since it was something to do on a Friday evening. I'd probably go to a few games a year if I still lived in AA. But can't really bring myself to watch on TV

Watch Michigan hockey when I can, listen when I can't.  Like others, wish more games were on TV.  But I can't say I follow it like I follow Michigan FB and BB.  Not because less interest...it's just easier to get FB and BB information.

I follow. I know when they played, who they played and the outcome. I know their record (pretty much). I rarely get to watch because BTN+ is an outright scam and I refuse to support it. But I would and will this weekend.

I follow it fairly closely as I love the sport. I follow football the closest and then hockey. I’m not a basketball fan so do t really follow that very closely. Like seeing them do well and cheer for them but can’t say I follow the sport

I follow all 3.  Most interest in football.  Over time, probably the same interest in hockey and basketball.  As of recent, probably more interest in basketball as hockey has been down other than last years Frozen Four.
