in unrelated news, it has been reported that engler bought himself a $10 million dollar gift certificate to wendy's.

Was this move advised by experts on sexual abuse and trauma?

No. According to a report Tuesday from the State News, the MSU Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct (RVSM) Expert Advisory Workgroup, created by Engler in February and tasked with helping improve student safety, was asked by school officials about potentially setting an end date for the fund in an email, and the group strongly suggested the school keep it open.

"If sexual assault survivors have entered into treatment based on the understanding that there were dedicated funds available to cover the cost of therapy, and then learn that they are no longer eligible for those funds, they are likely to feel that such changes are a gross violation of trust," the group said in an email provided by chairwoman and psychology professor Rebecca Campbell to the State News. "This betrayal will likely cause significant distress that will compound trauma symptoms they are already experiencing."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sure, let's create a group to advocate for the people whose lives we destroyed, then just totally ignore that group. Fuck these guys so hard.

It's weird how now that he's out of politics, he is universally accepted as a horseshit scumbag but he's actually been like this the entire time he's been in the public eye.

MSU has plenty to make fun of, but let's not act like they should just give everybody a permanent blank check because of this stuff.

Frankly, these girls are all washed up gymnasts and most probably had no direction in life and all of a sudden are now receiving a $3M windfall and never have to work again for the rest of their lives.

I'll tell you this..... I would be totally ok with a creepy old lady touching my genitals for a couple years if it ended up coming with a $3M windfall.......

Your asinine hypothetical poll doesn't much mention whether it's your 20, 30, 40 year old self getting your rocks off via an "old lady" or 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16 year old self being penetrated, amongst other screwed up actions, by an adult you're supposed to trust who really wasn't all that old.  Holy hell why did I respond.

Here is how I would frame the question......

"You would have your penis touched from the age of 16-18 against your will by an unattractive 55 year old lady who you trust. At the age of 25, you would receive $3M and never have to work again for the rest of life. You can travel and socialize and live carefree for the remainder of existence without ever worrying about money.

Would you trade your current situation for the above scenario? Yes or No?"

I guarantee 80%+ of respondents here would say "Yes" in a completely anonymous survey. I definitely would.

That simply isn't the slightest bit true. I am looking at a couple of Commercial Real Estate deals right now where a $3M upfront cash down payment would provide about $450k in yearly NOI every year going forward. And this is just a check deposited into your account from the manager. You could permanently travel the globe and just withdraw money from your ATM whenever you needed, without really having to worry about touching the $3M.

Are you saying $450k per year isn't enough to live on?

This pales in comparison to most of the other stupid statements you've made, but just to point out the financial problems with this theory. First, $425 million is being split between approximately 500 survivors, so most of them are not receiving anything like $3 million. I don't know any details about the MSU settlement, but there may be taxes due on some of it if it's punitive, and there are legal costs unless the lawyers are working pro bono. Lastly, putting all of ones money into a single form of investment which promises Bernie Madoff sized annual returns is a terrible idea, so even if you walked away with $3 million, you would not be living on $450k per year.

I mean, all the other stuff you said was way worse, but I thought I'd just point out these problems.

Based on my experience if I had to wing an approximate cash figure for the victims in 2 minutes, I'd say they are looking at:

50m split between the firms and other liability/subsequent victim funds- 375m left

$750,000 per victim

Taxed at ~39% using 2018 federal and state tables

=$457,500 per victim

Good luck getting an investment with 100% ROI yearly for life. (only someone with an MSU degree would claim this works out to $450k per year)

You are wrong again. The choice is whether you would trade your current situation for one where you had your genitals touched for $3M. There isn't a choice about your genitals being touched should you choose that route.

Basically, it's asking whether you would trade your current situation for one where you are $3M richer and never have to work anymore. Once that big check hits their accounts, I bet every bit of unpleasantness related to the experience will quickly melt away as they sit on a beach in Thailand and party for the next 10 years.

So you're worried about growth in formative years below but not worried about psychological, emotional, mental, etc. trauma endured during said formative and adolescent years...and just assume everyone turns out fine*.  But hey you're "rich".

*not going out on a limb stating for a fact, many people do not turn out fine when sexually abused...and throwing wads of money at a damaged person probably doesn't turn out great either.

That's just deranged Smegmatic and your new account should be banned.

It's not deranged because you're posing a thoughtful but difficult question, it's deranged because you are presenting a carefully selected scenario of strawmen and fantasy facts for which there is no comparable real world situation.

The reason I assume most have no direction in life is because most of these girls choose to forego meaningful education and career training to focus on Gymnastics growing up. They make decent money in competition and the Olympics, but you really only compete once or twice. $300k is a lot of money to a 16 year old, but that isn't going to last you forever(however, it will prevent further growth through your formative years).
