I don't really care if I get negged for this, I think the whole ITS A CONSPIRACY angle wherein Meyer fakes looking like he's having an aneurism every week like you faking a cough on Thursday to bolster calling off on Friday is stupid.

Coaches are... not healthy. Playing football is bad for you, the lifestyle of coaches are unhealthy. Bo Schembechler had like 80 heart attacks. The idea that a football coach has a myriad of issues that he doesn't want to acknowledge due to his own machismo isn't that out there. Furthermore, the Ohio State job was not supposed to be available for Urban Meyer. I don't think we have reason to believe he would have come back for any other job, we are talking about a school he has a master's degree from in his home state. The guy had a picture of Woody Hayes on his mantle even before he got the Florida job.

Agree, all of a sudden them retaining Helton is making all kinds of sense.  Meyer gets a year away for a break, then USC makes him an offer and he gets to resurrect another program.

Yeah, but the difference is that they ascribe all of this to mustache twisting EVILLLLLLLL and I ascribe it to, like, normal human emotions like hubris and a desire to do things even when they aren't medically advisable.

I think it's childish that our fanbase engages in this Alex Jones level crap with Meyer. He's just a dude, there is no conspiracy in which his doctors risk their medical licenses and lie for him just so he can have excuses to keep quitting jobs after *checks notes* unprecedented levels of success on the field.

Nobody lied for him - especially medical doctors.  They've diagnosed him with an arachnoid cyst, which is the most common type and isn't a life threatening thing.  And all they said about him is that he has one.  Where the disinformation comes in is from Urban's heartfelt disagreement with his fake suspension - he never once has believed he's done anything wrong in keeping Zach Smith employed, nor for covering for his various ethically deficient goings-on.  All the talk around him, and all the negative publicity, has certainly worn on him this year - no arguing that point.

However, he brought it on himself and all he's looking for now is a break from it.  He'll be back in a year, or two, at some other factory (perhaps USC) where he'll be hailed as a hero again.

Screw him.  He lacks a moral conscience and should never be given any benefit of doubt - he's earned his lack of trust.

THAT is not what happened.

What happened, is this...

He wanted to coach OSU, ND, or M, in worst way.. had it in his contract to opt-out, if they ever came calling.    He got early word, through back channels, that legally Tressel is gonna go down.  Before you scoff at this, a lawyer poster here notified us around the same time, but couldn't go into specifics.   In this same time period, Meyer comes up with illness, so he can back out of Florida, sit a bit, and then take the OSU job, avoiding the backlash RR got when he left a big program for another... it was a masterful stroke by Meyer.  You best believe that Gene Smith had already confirmed that Meyer would take the job, before Meyer faked the Florida illness.... shocks me how few here realize this...

I do think it’s probably for real medical reasons, and here’s why: A chronic disease can be discouraging as hell; I know from my own experience. You go through periods where you’re down and think the party’s definitely over, and you go through periods when you think you’re fine and can handle whatever career pressures you might face.

In other words, your mind goes back and forth between what you think you can, can’t, should be, shouldn’t be doing.

I’m not surprised that Meyer has gone back and forth regarding his retirement. It’s not atypical, and it doesn’t mean he’s lying. I don’t see a reason to read any more into it than that.

Some good points here.  But the reason to read more into this is the following:  He's a pathological liar.  Furthermore, he pulled this exact same stunt at Florida.  He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt this time.  And he'll be back - book it.  USC in 2020 most likely.  He'll fit in with the LA phonies perfectly.  Dude craves to have his ego stroked.

Wow, OK. First if you believe any of that bullshit I’ve got some Oceanside property in Kansas to sell you. OSU and Meyer have no credibility, they have continually lied and covered up EVERYTHING. This is what Meyer does. He has a good run with a QB. A year after that QB leaves he has medical issues and must resign. Fuck Urban and Fuck Ohio

part 2, yes. please give us another shot at beating that piece of shit

part 1, nope. he’s a bad person who has actually contributed to the misery (real, actual  misery, not the phony-baloney football kind) of actual people.

he deserves absolutely none of our sympathy.

For real, I wanted to beat him more than anything. I'm annoyed and pissed off that none of the coaches at Michigan, especially, Harbaugh could've beaten him. He's a complete scumbag.

For me (while it's not really the same) its like if Trump decided to retire and not run for reelection. You want to see him get his comeuppance and go out in shame. Michigan had a perfect opportunity to end his career with a fitting victory but instead found themselves on the wrong side of a beatdown. Incredibly disappointing.

ITS AN ASYMPTOMATIC ARACHNOID CYST!!!

Its a red herring designed to create sympathy for a completely unsympathetic character. Jesus Christ, man. It's a fucking fairy tale. The guy is a piece of shit human being and yes this deserves a pos-bang. Fuck this guy. When he comes back again in two years you going to buy this story again?? Unreal with you people.
